Bethesda kills off a series

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:59 am

Hi, after playing for 50 hrs, I have to say, Bethesda you have lost your touch. I usually average 100 + hrs from an elder scroll game, but this game is nothing like the previous versions. I play as a mage and the entire mage thing is dead. No creating spells, no fly, no 1st person for horse riding. The list goes on and on but everyone already knows the list. The game feels rushed. The lack of updates proves Bethesda is spread too thin. The love is gone from the series. Consequently, this is the last time I buy one of your games. Bethesda you've lost a long time fan.

I felt like I was playing Dark Messiah and that is not a good thing.

Goodbye.

Don't play as a mage. I started as one, tried to go just pure destruction, but had to throw in conjuration to survive. Made an archer character and never looked back.

The game has issues there's no ignoring that fact. My biggest one is the guild quest lines are short and unrewarding. That said there is still much more content here than you get in 99% of other games.

Wait for dlc, maybe that will renew yor faith

Don't base the entire series on one play-through as a mage. It is fairly well-known that mages are generally underwhelming, so try out playing as a warrior or assassin. Turn off quest markers, and go out there and explore caves and dungeons, perhaps you will find that magic back.

Seeing as there is a large amount of spells for usage/tatic, I would disagree. You can stick to a pure destruction if you understand it though, it really is not hard even on master settings.

Yes that will help make the game better although for his faith in Bethesda to be restored I think he needs a kiss from them rather than the nexus

WIth the game selling nearly 10 million copies world wide, the OP is simply employing hyperbole to voice his complaint that he doesn't like game. The series has never been stronger.

It's an awesome game, and I will always love it, but you'd have to be crazy to try and deny that there are some elements of the game that feel rushed. Not really justification to never buy one of their games ever again.

Yeah, they are rolling around in a swimming pool full of money crying because they killed off their series.... The only thing that could kill it is lack of funding from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_A._Altman, don't think that will be a problem.

Yeah Beth absolutely gutted the magic system. For some reason they thought it would be a good idea to take the magic out of TES's magic system and replace it with a generic magic system that other games have done better. With that said, you probably shouldn't judge the entire game only having played a mage. The magic system svcks, granted, but then again my mage was the least fun I had with a character in Skyrim.

I would have to agree with this. I've played Morrowind since it was first released and I have to say Skyrim is the ideal open-ended RPG in the series. The lore is there, immersion, exploration, combat...what else do you need? It's not without fault, but what game is?

It still kills me when I see posts like this.

50 hours?...Really? Way to give the whole game a chance there big guy...

Lack of Updates?...Really? The game won't be out 2 months until the day after tomorrow. Was there DLC or major patches within 2 months on other Bethesda games?

Goodbye?...Really? Perhaps that's for the best...just sayin...

Thanks for the rant, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

This is the first TES game I actually enjoy playing as something other then a warrior. Love the improvements to steath/archery thus playing an assassin is alot of fun. Personally I have never been able to tolerate playing as a mage in prior games but I am playing as one now and am really enjoying it. Love the variant in destruction spell types, the addition of ruins etc. I never used spell making in the past so I dont miss it, although I understand why people are dissapointed it is not it. Also I don't understand peoples complaint about how being a pure destruction mage isn't viable. Should it be? I mean if I made a warrior character that used only a one-handed blade, no armor, no block, no smithing, it would be pretty tough to do as well.

This. While of course it's never good to say 'it's not the worst, so deal with it' if you get like 40 or more hours out of Skyrim, that's more than most singleplayer-only games can provide. You got 50 hours which is still pretty good. There are a lot of balance issues, and some things are weird and need fixin's but I think overall they have made yet another great installment to the TES Series. (Though I did start with Oblivion)

You know whats sad. Theres more negative feedback than positive feedback. This forum has overall more threads which states that they are disapointed with the game than anything else. Every day I go on the forums. I see soo many threads. I don't understand because I love skyrim the most. I actually enjoy leveling up so I can raise perks. I actually spend more hours on skyrim than oblivion and morrowind. You haven't explain why the game feels rush, You only stated 4 things you disliked which doesn't really make sense.
Ok. First person on an horse? Who cares? This isn't big of a deal. They must have a good reason. You act like they don't think before doing things. First person horse on skyrim probly was buggy and it didn't work out. that is why they probly didn't add it on skyrim. Also the rest of the stuff u named. No fly? Oblivion had no fly. No creating spells? At least theres more customization. Theres tons of tools in skyrim. You can improve your weapon, Make weapons , Make armor, Make food , Make potion. None of these things are the things you can do in morrowind and skyrim. So I don't understand. Unless you can name more. I completely disagree. You're reason aren't specific. The love isn't gone from the series. This is your opinion. Many other people love the game. You just gotta accept the fact that this is an new game and you have to adapt to it.

I don't think they've killed off the series, I think they've made a game for a wider audience.

First time I played, spent more time with mage type things, but second time through, went more along the lines of one handed and archery. Way more fun for me. Destruction has it's uses though, always handy lighting up some oil on the floor. Or even in really dark places (until I figured out about mage light things).

On a completely different note - gaming has certainly changed. I'm not real old school, but I still remember going to Superstore and seeing all the shareware and getting Doom for the first time on a 486SX, 4MB of RAM. Didn't really have the ability to voice opinions or any social communication at that point! Crikeys, the internet wasn't even at global scale at that point (well, for the general populus).
