If Bethesda made an MMORPG...

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:47 am

Hey ppl!

So if Bethesda did finally decide to create an MMORPG would you buy it?

Now I am NOT saying that they will make the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout game an MMO because they have already said that they want to keep those games single-player only with little or no online content. What I am saying is that if Bethesda did create a new MMORPG game with a new theme and different lore (it could be loosely based on Fallout or TES but not the next in the series) would you take any interest in it? For example RAGE is similar to Fallout but is not the next in the series of the Fallout games and could have made a good MMO spin-off title.

I think it would be a good idea for Bethesda to create a new MMO game that is not based on TES or Fallout but is something similar.

I play MMOs all the time... and I love Bethesda... however, I probably would not play a Beth MMO if they made one. It just doesn't sound good. Bioware gets a free pass with this since most of their games have played very similar to MMORPGs, so in a way they've kind of already been there.

MMO=Technically minimal improvement over time=Abusing people and their money

No. Not after what I experienced with WoW.

They would have to work on balancing but yes I would give it a go. Is it assumed it would be similar to Skyrim?

Not sure if I would buy it just because I don't really like the whole "pay us every month for something you will only play for 2 hours a week."

I'd certainly try it out. Unless it was on a F2P model, though, I definitely wouldn't "own" it.

@ Alexander J. Velicky:

They have a copyright and a domain registered for "Elder Scrolls Online." They also opened up a Zenimax Online Studios. Not to mention they hold the rights to the Fallout MMO which is in development.

I don't see why they would they would get copyrights, a domain name and an entire studio for something they don't plan on making.

The only MMO I was ever interested in was Puzzle Pirates, and that's pretty much specifically because it's as unlike a traditional MMO as could be. A Bethesda MMO would be something I couldn't be less interested in.

I hate MMOs and I certainly hope Bethesda never makes one. Especially since they can put that time into a new Elder Scrolls title.

Maybe if they just added Online Trading as Skyrim DLC I'd be happy.

but i would subscribe it the F2P part was good enough

well besides the studio they would get the other two just in case they ever felt like doing that, so someone cant just buy it and then they have to pay huge monies to get it.

and OT i would get it if it wasnt monthly subscription. like MW2's deal. buy the game and you can play online.

Because copyrights are worth money, and because domain names are first come, first serve.

Hence, if they ever did decide to make an MMO on those things, and someone took their domain name, they could charge them millions to buy that domain name from them, and it basically costs nothing to claim it early. Likewise, copyrights are relatively cheap, and prevent people from moving in.

Honestly, I probaply wouldn't. Bethesda is great at creating huge worlds with awesome atmosphere, but they absultely svck at creating well balanced games, and in any online format that would just be unbearable.

Just imagine if Skyrim had a PvP component and anyone tried to compete without having 100 Ench/Smith

I feel any MMO ruins single player games the MMO is based off of. Look at Warcraft since WoW nothing has been mentioned about Warcraft IV. Then look at Star Wars The Old Republic and then look at KOTOR nothing has been mentioned about the third one in that series. I do not want my beloved Elder Scrolls to follow that path. Also MMOs gouge you for your money.

I'm not entirely sure. Being a fan of most of Bethesda's works I'd probably be all "Awesome! A Bethesda MMO!" But because I know how bug riddled most of their games are, especially on release where an MMO has to be at its absolute best... yeah....

Not a freaking clue.

I'm not someone who obeys Bethesda's every word. Never played any of their games outside of the TES series.

...But what about the entire studio dedicated to the craft? Hiring people to work and all that is far too much money to spend for nothing.

Perhaps they won't make an ELDER SCROLLS mmo, but they are for damn sure making a Fallout MMO. They are even in a legal battle over it right now.
