People are afraid of change Giantevilhead. They fear what they haven't experienced.
I've experienced it- I played Diablo II.
I still don't want it, and I'm not "afraid of" it.
That being said, I think you have given some decent reasons this could happen and If done properly it could be a nice feature. It does cut down on travel.
The problem is there's no way to do it "properly," and the "in-game explanation" for it is utterly
ludicrous.
"Hey, we're running a courier service- but let's just destroy any chance of profit by sending Courier A to deliver a package to Primm, while we send Couriers B and C to haul all of Courier A's stuff there ahead of A to make it convenient for A." Uh, why not just let Courier A sit, and Courier B can take the package themselves? Or are Couriers D and E hauling Courier B's stuff on ahead, while Couriers F and G haul Courier C's stuff on ahead- which then begs the question of who's hauling Couriers D, E, F, and G's things. Hell, one shipment of one parcel would break Allistair Tenpenny by the time the 400+ recursive couriers got all of each other's stuff moved!
Nevermind that the weak in-game explanation would only explain how The Courier's stuff got to the one place where they were supposed to deliver "The Package." How about any sidetrips they make? What, the courier company's resident psychic predicts all their random movements so other couriers can constantly move The Courier's stuff to wherever they might randomly decide to go? And of course all this shipping around of The Courier's entire household contents is done free, because "it's in their contract" that the company they work for will move their home for free, regardless of whether actual company business is involved, just because the company is run by nice guys who don't mind going broke?
Bad idea still needs to sit in the corner.
