Black Friday!

If I was still living in the US I wouldn't go within a hundred meters of a department store or mall unless equipped as this

The stores who do black friday sales are actaully tired of all the craziness, so many of them have decided to open their sales the day before at around 10 pm, 11 pm, and 12 am to avoid all the crowds. I'm also assuming that they won't close from Thursday either.

I have seen the future, and it is

"The Black Week of the Friday before the Friday after Thanksgiving..." [queue spooky music]

..and marketing will have to something with the name.. it's too long.. people need easily digestible sound-bites. :ermm:

But in the end I AM GETTING THAT TABLET. :verymad:

It's pretty crappy tablet. If you're going to get a limited-functionality tablet you'd be better off with Amazon's Kindle Fire, that way you at least get something streamlined for basic web browsing and ebook reading rather than a pile of poo someone made when putting a phone OS on a resistive enlarged screen.

I actually thought about the Kindle Fire but I decided I wanted something with a camera. The Kindle Fire definitely fits my aesthetic. It's got good memory, it's own optimized web browser, etc. problem is it's too new. It just came out yesterday so it will definitely sell out in stores on Black Friday. It comes to stores November 15th and Black Friday is just a week from that so chances for getting the Kindle Fire are slim.

I am looking for something from Android, with a camera, generous screen size etc. and Kyros fits just that. I will look into more later but I'm set on the MID8024.

@Defron - I've found some capacitive alternates to the Kyros. I don't like that the Kyros has AppsLib instead of the Android Market, I trust the Market more since I'm familiar with it. I don't care if the camera is FRONT facing but I DO want a camera. The one I've found in Wal-Mart has a 3MP back facing camera whereas the Kyros from Best Buy has a 1.3MP front facing camera. It's a bit smaller with a 7 inch screen but being responsive is a plus. It also has the Market which is another plus, it's not bad but the bottom buttons don't light up which is a minus. Overall the alternate I found is a lot better than the Kyros. Problem is, the nearest Wal-Mart is pretty far from where I live so I doubt I'll be able to trek all that. But since it's technically Christmas shopping I doubt it matters to my parents.

I wouldn't mind getting in on the tablet scene since my laptop is just about knackered... I have a perfectly powerful desktop for anything more intensive than web browsing/E-mails.

Can anyone suggest a good tablet for under or around £250? I like the look of the Kindle Fire, though I think the release date isn't even confirmed for the UK.

Whenever I see the name, I still keep thinking it's the day George Soros tried to bankrupt the country, but that was another day, I think. Monday?

Avoiding Black Friday like the plague

Though I might look online at a couple of things but I doubt I'll actually do any buying of any sort

Edit: Well I might go by the stores the night before to laugh at the poor saps camping out in the cold when they could be inside, warm, and enjoying themselves.

Bah I've been hearing that Madden 12 will be $28 at Wal Mart, now I really want that. And if Forza 4 were on sale I'd want to grab that too. I still don't know if I'm going to go, I'd have to take a cab and everything... I know some people here are going to Wal Mart at midnight. The Gamestop on base is opening at 4am Friday I believe, it'd be nice if I knew what there deals were.

I'll be keeping an eye out for online deals, and I also plan on going with a friend to sit outside of Target for a while and then follow him in when it opens at midnight. Might get my grandparent's gifts then as well. I like partaking in Black Friday simply because it's interesting to see all the people, it's a weird sort of fun for me haha.

I'll be sitting at home where its safe. Tried shopping once on BF, never again. I saw a computer monitor on sale at Best Buy and decided to go there and get it. They opened early at 6 AM. It took me a 1/2 hour to find a place to park about a block away and when I finally got inside the store it was jammed full of people you couldn't even get back to where the computers were. I said the hell with it and went home.

I'll stay home where it is safe and do things that I have put off that need done. Anyway all the hype over great deals on Black Friday is ridiculous imho. The stores will stock what they say is their fantastic deals but they generally don't stock a lot of the items. This is where it gets messy because they run out of the deals quickly which turns normally sane people into a bunch of wild animals. The sales stuff is used just to bring people into the store so they will buy other stuff. I'll just wait and buy what I need after this mass showing of consumerism is all over with. I also refuse to camp out to buy anything. I don't need anything that bad. :shakehead:

Haha. Because if this "Back Friday" Stores in Canada are going to lower there prices to stop Canadians from going across the boarder.

I had no intention of crossing but now that the prices will start to drop might get a new T.V.

I'm going to see if I can grab myself a new xbox from Gamestop's sale. My old one has long since RRODed, so I've needed one for a while. I'll probably try to pick up a copy of Skyrim if I can while I'm there as well.

I live in a smallish town, and the Gamestop I live near is right next to about 3 other big-name department/electronics stores, so I figure I have more of a chance than most to get what I'm after. I'll still try to show up early just in case though.

I'm too "old" and cranky to want to deal with holiday shopping madness. I'd rather pay more than deal with that hassle. Yea maybe I'm weird.

Btw, to the OP, I read a news page yesterday that said Best Buy was going to be opening at 12AM this year (so if one went at 11AM on Fri they'll have been open for 11 hours)...a sort of concession to the fact they're not doing well financially/hoping for more shoppers I guess...but I don't know if that was just in my area/state or all over. Might want to check for your area, if you haven't already.

If anyone hears anything about sales for quality surround sound headphones, could you please let me know? I am looking to replace the system I am using now, but wouldn't mind saving a little coin.
