Black Friday!

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:57 am

Hey guys, what are you plans for Black Friday? We know it's the most hectic shopping day of the year and people can get really nasty on the day! I personally have ONE thing in mind and one only! TABLETS! My mom is giving me about $200 to go shopping on Black Friday and with things plummeting far below 50% off on the day, I can definitely have some change to spare.

I am focusing on getting the Coby Kyros MID8024. It's just about everything I'm looking for in a tablet and I'm getting it at my local Best Buy. The normal price is $160 so $200 will definitely cover. I'm hoping to get over 50% off but with Best Buy wanting to make money, I should be satisfied with 25% at the least.

Trouble is, I hear Best Buy becomes a shark tank on Black Friday. And me being a kid, it's going to be hard for me to take advantage of the day. I hear people even go camping and it's packed the minute the door opens! So I'm really thinking I might not be able to get what I'm looking for! I'm really hard headed so I will not settle for less. This is a problem because my parents are NOT going to go camping just to go shopping (my tablet is just a background thing, they have their own priorities for BF.) So it will be hard to get there early. The earliest I can hope to get there is 11:00AM. Which is awful since Best Buy opens at what? 6 in the morning on BF? So yea, me being a kid my chances are shotty. But I might go with my older brother and his wife and they're hardcoe shoppers so I can hope to get there earlier.

What's your game plan for Black Friday? I can't really tell mine because my game plan is being decided by my elders. :shakehead:

Not quite sure yet. Maybe movies and video games but honestly I'll just see what Amazon / Steam / iTunes has for sale because I don't want to get too much crap because in December I change bases for the next phase of my tech school and have to move all my junk.

I saw Wal-Mart was advertising jeans for under $10. I like the sound of cheap clothes so I may go buy some for myself.

Don't have any money saved up... Unless I count the money I loaned out to family that they will probably never pay back.

The closest I get to doing anything on Black Friday is the Steam Thanksgiving weekend sale.

Beyond that, I hide in my house and refuse to come out until the crazy people go away. :P

Sitting at home, watching any online websites for good deals.

But mainly this.

No plans to go to any stores, I'll look around the Steam, Amazon, and Newegg though. I need a switch so I'm hoping a decent brand one goes on sale on Newegg or Amazon.

I have a compelling urge to buy a laptop, but I might end up ordering from In-N-Out Burger instead, like the last two years.

Certainly considering a couple hard drives to put on the home server, if not on Black Friday, around Christmas when I visit family in Detroit. These drives are overflowing with music, movies, games, etc., badly need 'em.

No X-mas shopping here since some jerk ran into my relative i'm staying with (Freaking hit and run) . Had to loan out some money to help her get a new car so we're pretty much SoL. It's already though X-mas is getting old and really is a kid thing to be honest. Probably stay home and watch TV shows and keep to myself maybe heat up some home-made soup that day who knows.

The day after Thanksgiving which holds great deals at nearly every store. It is basically the first shopping day to the holiday season.

No spare money right now, I too loaned mine out and wish I had it right now. I really want a HDTV and they're going to be pretty damn cheap. :sadvaultboy:

Supposedly the prices will be dropping even more after Christmas though, so I might just wait til tax time.

I'm hoping to get lucky and find some good deals on a few HDDs for storage discounted online.

That's about it. You couldn't pay me to try and buy something in-store on Black Friday.

I'll be keeping an eye out line for a Dell U2211H monitor, a graphics tablet and a new pair of headphones.

Pretty much this. I don't know if I'll stay home, but I won't be going anywhere near retail stores.

I'm gonna work and then I don't know. I probably won't go shopping but then again who knows, who knows. And yes Best Buy is a shark tank, expect to wait at least 40 minutes in line unless you get lucky.

http://xkcd.com/951/

spending hours for a few bucks saved in horrible "working" conditions (cramped, early hours, risk of trampling, risk of scratches and bruises, etc) you aren't really doing yourself justice from an opportunity cost perspective at all.

Wow, a lot of people aren't really going shopping this Black Friday. I would have thought some of you would be hardcoe campers and start a riot outside the mall when it doesn't open or something. :P To me, it's smart to do a bit of online shopping on Black Friday, trouble is websites update at their own pace, not like a store where it opens and the sales are on. A website is open 24/7 but only updates every so often. But it's not too much of a problem big stores like Best Buy and Wal-Mart will probably be the first to update their online stores.

I really don't like online shopping because I'd rather go to a store and get in my hands then and there than to spend my money and wait a week or two to get it. But if I do do some online shopping (which would probably be the case if I alert my parents about it) I would do it on trusted stores. None of those "megasale wholesale China" stores. I'm paranoid when it comes to electronics from the internet but I know I won't have to worry if I'm shopping on eBay or something.

But in the end I AM GETTING THAT TABLET. :verymad:

You mean Christmas? I remember Amazon UK doing something about some "black Friday" last year and completely confusing everyone here, especially as most of those who don't leave it until Christmas Eve had already started (and often finished) their Christmas shopping.
