Buggy programs should not be ALLOWED

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 8:39 pm

They keep quoting that there is no such thing as "A BUG FREE PROGRAM", I have been playing games since the commodore 64 days that's over 30 years & I've never known a game to be this buggy, nor have felt the need to raise my voice & complain..
IT'S JUST AN EXCUSE FOR POOR CODING, LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL & TESTING.

I think there seem to be certain points on the map that cause the game to crash, I gave found several since restating the game, I have returned to the same point on the map & it always crashes at that point, either they did very little testing before they released the game or the beta testers they use are rubish.

I could be horribly wrong here, but you may also be experiencing the same problem as I have. You might want to try starting a new character, disabling all autosaves and heading to the areas where you experience crashes. My knowledge is severely limited, but there is something to do with a save corruption which causes crashing in certain areas. I had a consistent crash at exactly the same point when trying to get to the Thorn every time, and I was only able to fix this by starting a new game. You might want to give that a whirl, just to see if it works. If it does, keep autosaves disabled and make good friends with your quicksave button :)

Seems to work for some points but not for others, Didn't crash behind jean's sky diving, but still crashed east of California Sunset Drive in close to the Buffalo Gourd Seed in the Road, still if it cuts down on the amount of crashes it is still a useful tip. Though they should get their finger out & fix the damn game as gamers aren't going to put up with & their next release could flop if they don't get it working properly.

Edit: Never mind. Posting while half asleep is never a good idea. I'd remove it completely but I don't see a delete button.

Question from a console user here.

Do PC users who have a computer that is well beyond the recommended system requirements still have trouble with the game; like game freezes? Sometimes I think that my PS3 can't handle game, mostly because the game usually has choppy movement before it finally freezes.

Yep...the game crashes with an error on my PC.

I'm running a 3.8Ghz Core2 Quad with 8GB of memory, & an overclocked GTX 295 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I can play Crysis warhead and every other game for hours on end with no problems. This is the only game I own that crashes at all. It crashes at random times, with no rhyme or reason to it. At first I could play for an hour and a half with no problems. Then it crashed at random points all the sudden without warning. Now I can't go 5 minutes without a crash. I got this as an early x-mas gift and it's unplayable. Ridiculous, I haven't even gotten to Primm yet either...that's how little I've been able to play.

Turning off all autosave options & using quicksave instead, seems to have cured a lot of the crashes I was having. especially around goodsprings & primm. now I can play for about an hour or more, though I still get the crash problem at the gun runners when purchasing from the MISC inventory ( this has happenned at level 10, 16 & 22). I now exit the purchase screen & quicksave after purchasing the arms, armour & ammo I want before purchasing from the MISC inventory, though I have narrowed it down to the powder items that cause the crash. It's also pointless buying the carbon fibre parts for the sniper rifla as when it's in your inventory it still weighs 8 pounds not 3 pounds as it should. INSTEAD OF RELEASING DLC's THEY SHOULD BE CONCENTRATING ON MAKING THE DAMN GAME PLAYABLE.

I forgot to mention for this to work you need to turn off all aitosave options, then create a new character. Just turning off autosave & attempting to continue with the same character the game will continue to crash as before.

I mentioned it before, but I'll mention it one more time.

The entire number of people who have posted on these, the official forums for New Vegas, since the game's release represent less than three tenths of one percent of copies sold.

That includes everybody who posted in other game sections of the forum and who posted things other than problems.

Even if only half of the games shipped were sold (which I think would be low), 99.4% of purchasers have never posted on the official forums at all.

Saying 75% of people have problems seems like it could be a bit of an exaggeration.

The reason 99.4% of purchasers have never posted is because either they don't want to register (which means giving out their e-mail, thus a lot more junk mail), they don't have the spare time to bother, or they just know that all the complaining in the world isn't going to change a D**M thing.

I agrre with that satement, as befotr I opened this thread, all I used to do was to look through the threads to see of athers were having the same problems & if there were any work arounds. THIS IS THE FIRST GAME I HAVE FOUND TO BE SO BUGGY THAT I HAD TO VOICE MY COMPLAINTS, not that they appear to listen, they are more interested in releasing the DLC rather than getting the game to run properly.(SOMETHING THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE BEFORE RELEASING THE GAME)

What do you expect?
A couple of guys raging on the forums and within 2 days they have a patch out that fixes every problem ever encountered by any of the hundreds of thousand people playing this game?
Especially considering that the engine never has been the most stable one in the first place...

I really do hope that the problems eventually get fixed and you can play the game (as it is worth it), but making unverifiable claims (like the 75% number) seems somewhat stupid.

After restarting the game, (which I do quite often if I'm not happy as to the outcomr of my actions or want to complete a quest, which is impossible due to my actions ie: "I fought the law"). I was suprised that I managed to get to level 12 & into new vegas without having any glitches or crashes. I got too overconfident & hadn't done any quicksaves, (as I now leave all autosave options turned off) low & behold after leaving the mormon fort in freeside the crashes started in the centre of the street.

Unlike orher games you are not retricted to following a certain path, you're not restricted to which order you complete the quests & can wander anywhere within the map, so other game producers could lrarn a lot from the fallout gendre's. But please do more testing before you release the games. As gamers will start turning their backs on future fallout games, they pay their hard earned money to play rhe game not to act as beta testers finding bugs.
