.50 Caliber Machinegun

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:49 pm

I picked the Chauchat for several reasons.

First it has a short magazine, so you're not wasting a thousand expensive .50 cal rounds before you have to reload.

It was also originally designed as a heavy machiengun, the French's answer to the Bickers, and Spandou, (not sure if I spelled that right) but could be used as a light machingun. Because of this the Chauchat is a big and bulky weapon that weighs half a ton (hyperbole) but can dish out a lot of damage.

Laslty the Chauchat has a very slow rate of fire. It could function just as well as a semi-automatic weapon, somehting that fired maybe two shots per second or less.

All in all it would be a continuation of what the BAR (automatic rifle) is in comparison to other machinguns. Going for power and range, over a wall of lead.

That's what the Guase rifle is. A railgun is a weapon that uses magnets to accelerate its projectile, rather than combustion. The gause rifle does the same thing. they just called it by a different name.

Really?
Yeah I guess it does follow the same principles.. It fires an energy projectile though, hence it using MFC?
Railgun fire actual projectiles through the use of enormous electrical currents and magnets..

I guess it would be hard to have a railgun AND a Gauss though given the distinct similarities between them huh? Oh well.

I'd like to see a .50 Caliber Machine Gun, I'd LOVE to see it actually. But you've gotta think about the negatives, it would weigh around 80 lbs and if playing on hardcoe every four rounds would be a pound of weight... You really couldn't do alot of exploring while wielding on of those, but one thing is for sure, deathclaws would be dropping brix!

If it were to be added as a man-carried weapon it would have to have a strength requirement of 10, guns skill of 100. Less than 10 str can't run with it, less than 8 can't use it at all.

no, no. the m60 fires a 7.62mm(nato round), basically a .308cal. much smaller than a .50. actually, until recently(past 10 yrs.), the ak47 fired a similar projectile(if not the same) as the m60, just with a smaller cartridge, and less power/powder, aka grain. now, the newer a.k.'s fire the exact nato round as our m16, ar15, m4, etc. a 5.56mm, or .226cal.

It can modified with a separate barrel. That gun fires alot of s**t lol

ok i was debating to just let this one go or to strighten stuff out. true this game is a fantasy game but you still want it to feel real like it could realy happen. An M60 is 7.62x51 cannot be chambered for another round by swapping out barrels, a AK47 is a 7.62x39 ad AK74 a 5.45x39 not 5.56, a .50 bmg cannot be handheld and fired more than one round (got bored in iraq and it wasnt a small guy holding it needless to say it didnt work out to well) .308 can be fired in 7.62x51 but not the other way around. if you wat something better and more, per say, realistic.... how about bigger BAR mags. cause with 20 AP rounds per mag im still desimating about 3 deathclaws before reloading. there isnt much need for more powerful weapons untill you run into more powerful enemys. even a legendary deathclaw wont stand up to the BAR :gun: just wish i had atleast 60rnds. but a select fire M14 with an Eotech would be nice or basically red dot/ holo sights mods period. like a full auto marksman rifle with different scope/ mag capicity. but i wouldnt complain if there was a hand held 1919, and that can be hand fired.

and all said as my opinion take it as you want it

The M1919, AKA .30 cal, could be a nice intermediate machine gun. It could use the .308 ammo which is already in the game, and would remain somewhat expensive to fire. Alternatively, the M60 could serve the same role.

I would like to see the Browning M2 .50 cal make a come back as well, but I think the only way it could be done realistically is if your character would absolutely need to wear power armor to weild it. Actually, I could see a lot of heavy weapons use this idea (ex.: grenade machine gun)

Gauss Rifle is coilgun, which is very different from railgun.

ok-ok. the .50 is def the best machine gun, as far as i know of. unless you wanna get crazy, and break out the bushmaster 30mm auto-cannon, that can be found on "spooky" the ac130. aka "puff the magic dragon". :mage:

The AC-47 "Puff the Magic Dragon" never used the Bushmaster chain gun.

The AC-130 "Spooky"/"Spectre" Gunship also have never used a Bushmaster chaingun. That goes for all of the variants of the AC-130 Gunship (A, H, U, J) from 1966 to today.

I'm gonna have to ask for proof. Because the 25mm M242 Bushmaster I nor the 30mm MK44 Bushmaster II have never been deployed to any AC-130 Gunship variant nor have they ever been deployed to the AC-47.

Current armament for the H (Spectre) are the 40mm Bofors and the 105mm Howitzer.

Current armament for the U (Spooky II) are the same as the H plus the addition of a 25mm General Dynamics GAU-12 chaingun.

Both the M242 and MK44 Bushmaster I and II chainguns are built by Allied Techsystems and neither of the current AC-130 H, U nor any of the past AC-130 gunships (A, J) have ever had any weapons made by Allied Techsystems.

The AC-47 doesn't even count as its armament consisted of 3 each 7.62 GAU-2 and 10 each .30 Browning AN/M2 machine guns. Puff the Magic Dragon (also a "Spooky" designation) is not in the same class and is no longer used.

Add to that the GAU-12/U and the two Bushmaster guns are very different weapons platforms. the GAU is a Gatling gun with 5 barrels whilst both Busmasters are single.

The chauchet was a horrible gun, the guys that used it hated it. It had loads of problems and there is a reason it isn't used anymore. No the Ma Duece is still in use, and she will be for a good long time. Also as a little tidbit about the the .50BMG, it is actually named after the Ma Duece "Browning Machine Gun". I thought that was pretty interesting.

I am calling shenanigans. Because there is already a damn Mark-19 mod 0 type weapon being used on a flex backpack mount so why can’t an M2 be Backpack modified in the same way.

If someone can modify a damn 40mm grenade machine gun into a flex mount with backpack ammo storage then there is no earthly reason someone can’t modify an m2 using the same method.

Mercy I.E the Mark 19 wannabe is a damn 40mm grenade machine gun and would weigh just as much as a damn M2 with a short barrel NOTICE I said short barrel people.

If the designers were able to simply shorten the barrel they could easily port an M2 into a MERCY frame and wammo a .50 machine gun that is portable.

The Mark19 is a heavy [censored] too but the designers had no problem backpack mounting one with heavy as [censored] 40mm grenades as the ammo supply.

There is no reason whatsoever to make the claim that the M2 is to big while running around the wasteland with a damn 40mm machine gun.
So quit with the [censored] claims that it can’t be done because it is being done with a heavier weapon with a heavier ammo supply SO JUST STOP.

You'd have to be a supermutant to fire it while carrying it, the recoil from one of those things is tremendous.

That's what we have Power Armors for. Seriously, i would approve of weapons usable only with a Power Armor.

Wow. I've never seen so much wrong info in a firearms thread before. Kudos to you guys who have made the corrections. I was gonna do it, but I don't think I have the hour or two to spend on it. That's what I get for going to bed early last night.

On Topic: As far a use of the M2 as a weapon in game, I have no problem with it, under one, and only one, circumstance: That it take a ST of 15 and power armor is changed to give you +10 ST. It should be limited to only being used with power armor. There. Now you have it.

-Gunny out.

I have a picture of just that...somewhere. It looks fun, and sense it doesn't shoot to fast it wont go through ammo like the minigun can.

So basically I'm imagining a light machinegun that you cart around that fires pretty slow, but does a hell of a lot of damage. It would be pretty acurate, but mostly a medium range weapon. I think it should be modeled after thehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chauchat.

What do you think?

I was already in a Fallout ==> http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Chauchat

"Renowned as the worst machine gun ever issued to any army at any time in history. Unreliable and poorly constructed, it was considered unusual if the gun fired more than one burst before jamming. It makes a completely useless addition to any arsenal." It doesn't even fire in Tactics.

I want the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Browning_M2

Just make a M60.. That can shoot 60 Cal and 50 Cal

Yah M60=DA BOMB. That or the .30 cal but that still weighs a good much.
