.50 Caliber Machinegun : Fallout: New Vegas

So basically I'm imagining a light machinegun that you cart around that fires pretty slow, but does a hell of a lot of damage. It would be pretty acurate, but mostly a medium range weapon. I think it should be modeled after thehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chauchat.

What do you think?

It would be interesting but kind of annoying if you had to "Cart" it around everywhere, and you probably couldn't bring it anywhere besides open areas. I would like to see something like this maybe in a large fight, but not just for your character V.S. one Mole-rat.

I think you need to make up your mind. Do you want a Chauchat clone as in the post, or a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M2_Browning as in the title- which would in no way be light?

Is there a third option, to make a magical mix of them both? If yes, then that. If no, I mod myself a Staples easy button.

I think a 50 caliber machine gun would look like the real one and be fired like the mini gun but slower rate of fire and high damage.

Just make a M60.. That can shoot 60 Cal and 50 Cal

It would be fine as a crew-served weapon to defend a certain point, like Rivet City or the Citadel....but no character is going to lug a .50 BMG machinegun around, it's far too large and heavy. You'd have to be a supermutant to fire it while carrying it, the recoil from one of those things is tremendous.

then you shouldn't have a mini gun it doesn't have the recoil but I'm sure it would be almost as heavy if not more.

The great thing about about it verse the minigun is that the backpack part can now hold ammo, instead of a battery. So you will get more ammo that you can fire.

And the fact that. 50 Cal is the best round on the planet. Have you ever seen one its huge the bullet without the casing is as big as a thumb

that's debateble. the .408cal round may be better.

no, no. the m60 fires a 7.62mm(nato round), basically a .308cal. much smaller than a .50. actually, until recently(past 10 yrs.), the ak47 fired a similar projectile(if not the same) as the m60, just with a smaller cartridge, and less power/powder, aka grain. now, the newer a.k.'s fire the exact nato round as our m16, ar15, m4, etc. a 5.56mm, or .226cal.

Not for a heavy machine gun used for taking out vehicles to humans. For a long range sniper yeah the .408 or the. 416

ok-ok. the .50 is def the best machine gun, as far as i know of. unless you wanna get crazy, and break out the bushmaster 30mm auto-cannon, that can be found on "spooky" the ac130. aka "puff the magic dragon". :mage:

But here's the difference, see- there actually are http://www.epicycle.org.uk/images/minigun2.jpg in real life. Unlike .50 cal heavy machine guns.

There are no man portable miniguns, they svck up ammo and energy like that. That and the thing would spin you around from the force. The only round that would work would be a .22, and even then it would be hard to use. Also I know the image I posted isnt the ma duece, I was using ti as a example.

sorry, .223. i did say ak uses "similar" rounds (as m60). yes ak ammo casing/brass is shorter. also, you would not want to load your "military" type 7.62 rifle with .308 "cilvilian" type ammo. it is different.

also, i said m60 fires same "projectile"(7.62mm) as ak. and yes, the m60 casing for 7.62 projectile is longer(hence 51mm) than ak casing(39mm &less grain).

What world are you living on? The M60 is chambered for 7.62, not .50.

The M2 Browning is 10 kg heavier than the minigun... which is unrealistically light already. It could work, but .50MG rounds are very expensive to fire automatically.
