Can't play a non-online game I PAYED for?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 8:31 pm

Why do I always randomly get the message "This game is currently unavailable. Please try again later?" I mean, I payed for this game out of my own pockets. I should be able to play it whenever I want to. I never liked Steam for this very reason to begin with. Is there some sort of fix I can take to get around this annoying issue?

Yes, there is. Make sure you have the latest patched version of the game, then choose Steam -> Go Offline, and Steam should restart in Offline mode, and you should be able to play Skyrim just fine.

Keep trying and pray it finally works.

This is the very reason I dislike Steam aswell.

I have tried multiple times and have still run into no luck period. I wanted to get on since I haven't played since release. I was going to check if Bethesda had released a patch allowing me to bind keys to my numpad yet. I doubt they have though. I stopped playing after release because of that. I guess i could get an answer faster from here lol.

Although I can't pilot a jet fighter, it doesn't mean it svcks. Instead of crying and complaining about the tool you are given, how about learning how to use it?

Been using Steam since Half-Life 2 was released, and while I wasn't keen on it to begin with, they've improved it so much I can't imagine not having it. It's unfortunate some people are still having problems, considering I haven't in years. Operating in offline mode is your best bet to avoid any connection-related issues with Steam.

A noose is not a tool.
Not much of one at least, for the hanged.

Except I can pilot the jet, but the controls don't work. I told it to lower the landing gear, and the lights said they were down, but I hit the deck only to find out they weren't.

Sometimes the tools we are given really are broken or just crap.

Close steam and re-open it. Works for me. Only time it didn't is when some files weren't there - just validate cache files or whatever.
Hope it helps :)

My brother was going to buy the PC version for modding and that, but his PC isn't internet connected at all, so I told him to save his money and stick with his xbox one cos, well, you know.

Single player games should never need any internet of any kind. Just like the xbox/ps3 version.

Beth, not all PC's are connected to the net.

I know this doesn't solve the original problem, and you may not want a mod for this, but...I've been using this since day 3 or so, for that issue:

Open the steam program select set or go offline in menu in left corner.
Had the same problem yesterday, probably as the patch was send out.
If you are actualy offilne steam will look stupid for around 30 second and go offline by it self.

No but clearly your computer is? So unless you live in seperate households, he could have just plugged the ethernet into his PC for all of a couple hours when he needed to activate/update skyrim. And how was he planning on modding without being able to download mods? o.O

Seperate households.
Transferring mods using an external 1TB HDD.
We live pretty close by each other, maybe a minute on foot, so it was a good idea and would have worked with any other offline game lol.

You don't get forced to use a jet fighter.

Haha, very true.

Will Steam Workshop put an end to Nexus? :(
Or will CK allow exporting the files to desktop (for example) for upload to Nexus, cos if it is all automated then CK mods only through Steam. :/

If you hadn't played in a while then the game or the Steam client was probably updating. So you just have to wait and be a little patient. No big deal.

Don't worry. Bethesda has said that we will be able to continue using the Nexus.

I get that sometimes too. If retrying few times doesn't fix it, switching to offline mode does.
