Who prefers oblivion gates to dragons. I mean, what is more badass; Charging into the gates of hell, killing demons inside a foreign world of chaos and destruction, or wating five minutes for a god damned dragon to land so you can hack its head off.

I'd be one of those who would disagree with you. I loved the Oblivion gates originally... but after about five of them I literally hated them. I forced myself to complete the main quest because I was so tired of them. Dragons aren't nearly as tedious to me and I still find them quite cool when they strafe me by surprise and the controller shakes, my headphones rattle, and the noise is deafening.

I always got a whole lot of the same thing with the gates. At least dragons get new looks and get stronger.

Ugh, I hated "Oblivion Gates". My only motivation for closing them down was to rid the landscape of an eyesore.

Dragons are far more fun though to be fair the plane of Oblivion has far better loot.

I hated the gates after the first couple. I have killed 30 or so dragons and still enjoy them.

You make one sound more badass than the other. Let's balance them.

Would you rather...

A. "Charge into the gates of hell, killing demons inside a foreign world of chaos and destruction".

B. Kill mighty dragons that shout at you, in the form of mighty fire breath or cold frost, absorbing their powers.

I think i've balanced it. Choose well, community :)

You know what I liked about the Oblivion Gates? They went away after the MQ was over.

I like the dragons better but do wish they'd land. Waiting around 5 or 10 minutes is not fun.

The -CONCEPT- of Gates to oblivion spewing out legions of daedra and laying siege across the lands and fighting armies is awesome

The -CONCEPT- Of Dragons rauaging the lands and, attacking cities and hearing the city bells going off and screaming and Terror is Awesome

The execution of both, to me is crap.

Awesome Concepts, crappy excecution.

The dragons are actually fun and I don't run into them all that often even with my lvl 43 main character. I absolutely hated oblivion gates though. They were just tedious after the first or second one, and they were EVERYWHERE. Not to mention you had to close one for every freaking city during the allies for Bruma quest. I absolutely hated that quest because of it. Couldn't one city have just said: "sure not much going on here at the moment I'll help".

Dragons are not as common and less time consuming then Oblivion gates. So I will disagree with you OP.

I prefer the Oblivion gates. They not only go away after the main quest, but you can also simply ignore almost all of them.

Oblivion Gate's pros:

They go away after the MQ
You'll only have to fight one of them at the time
They are easy to avoid
They were really awesome the first time (sky goes all red and whatnot)

Cons:
Feels like a chore
Makes too much of an impact on the world in relation to the above

Dragons pro's:
Also kinda epic the first time
I feel a lot more "involved" as it's a head on 1v1 fight most of the time
You are one of them, more or less

Cons
They're supersized cliff racers
They come hunting for you when nearby making them harder to avoid
Really feels like a chore after your first twenty something (see cliff racer)

I vastly prefer dragons over Oblivion gates. Dragon fights only last a few minutes; it could take half an hour or more to close an Oblivion gate. Oblivion gates were awesome at first, but once I started seeing more and more of them, I got sick of them fast. Some of the areas inside the Oblivion gates could also be incredibly frustrating to navigate, and the loot didn't usually justify the time spent in there.

I suppose I'm the middle ground. Both were epic at first. Then I did ten.... then twenty... now its just another tedious task, but dragons are even worse because they have even less avoidability then gates. At least with the gates I could just turn around and walk away. Can't do that with a hulking, fire-breathing behemoth flying around.

Oblivion gates are actually better then dragons, only problem is the gates get old real fast and that's a huge problem.

I had very little trouble play Oblivion, game-wise. In 8 tries the Civil War questline or MQ has glitched to the point I could not finish the game in Skyrim. So I'll vote Oblivion Gates.

Oh man I hated Oblivion gates. If sigil stones were not so valuable I would never have started the MQ at all. The gates ugly up the beautiful game world and the monsters that come out seriously eff up the local ecology. Especially if you run a mod like MMM, now you've got Deadroth , hungers, and clannfear kicking the crap out of the local NPC's.

Ah. I remember my firs Oblivion gate so well. The one at Kvatch, and it was one of the best moments in oblivion for me. I was scared as hell, saved every five steps, and it was just so intense! However, they quickly lost their novelty. It was not long before i sighed every time the sky went red. I prefer dragons.

I thought Oblivion Gates were very cool, and I almost never got tired of them. However, I will admit that my strategy for closing them consisted mostly of Invisibility spells.

Hmm... on second thought I guess you could say that I loved Loot in Oblivion Gates, and that I loved Sigil Stones. Other than that, they were crap.

Hmm... on third thought I would occasionally fight the odd Valkynaz or high level daedra, just for the fun of it.

In conclusion, the gates were fine, but spending hours in one was boring.

I, too, prefer dragons, although it took a while for the gates to become annoying. What finally did it was a particular 'world' that had an overly-serpentine surface layout, including elevation changes, that turned what could have been a 15-minute trek into a two-hour slog as I had to keep doubling back after tripping a lever to open a sealed gate. I ended up creating a 100% Chameleon outfit using Sigil Stones, so I could just run to the damn levers and gain access to the sanctum.

Had they not been so bizarrely laid out I would probably not have cared about having them constantly popping up, since dealing with them wouldn't have been so annoying. Dragons I don't particularly mind, although I sometimes get irritated when they refuse to attack and just keep circling, since they do so out of attack range.
