What I'm wondering is, which version of the story is true? Did Ulfric shout him off the throne and slay him with a sword? Or did the shout really tear his body apart?
If you talk to Ulfric and ask him about it at Windhelm, he'll say he shouted at Torygg, which stunned him, then actually killed him with a sword. He also says it was a legitimate challenge toward the High King, where you duel and the winner is the High King of Skyrim. Which is why in the Age of Agression, one of the lines are: Hail to Ulfric, you are the High King.
