Cancellation rumor

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 2:22 pm

Wow, so much Bethesda-hate on this thread... Seriously we don't even know if it's actually canceled or not, relax guys. I for one will still love this company and continue buying their games even if Prey 2 is canceled, just because they make great games.

That said, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T CANCEL IT! I love love LOVED the first Prey and the videos and stuff for this one look AWESOME and I am seriously looking forward to it.

Bethesda should come out and let us know the status of the game even if it is a simple single sentence of "Prey 2 is not cancelled and is still in development." That is all Prey 2 fans want to hear and maybe a screenshot to calm the pissed off fans. I means really I think we deserve a screenshot even if it is of something lame like a wall with someone standing in front of it.

After Bethesda made all that money from Skyrim I'd be pretty irked if they cancelled Prey 2. Just saying if I had that much money I'd release Prey 2 just as a thank you for making me stanking [censored] rich. If it doesn't sell well then owe well at least we recouped some money and we can move on.

I suspect Bethesda doesn't want to set a precedent that they will respond to a rumor providing it gets enough attention.

This has been big news for almost a month now though....cancelling a game that is expected this year is a big deal...not an everyday rumor. My respect for Bethesda is at zero right now.

Bethesda and or its developers have not been comuniating with the comunity. prey 2 being cancelled, rage driver fixes, id studio, rage patchs, rage 64 bit, abd brink editor. They keep saying stuff like we will have more information soon.

Besthesda is not commenting but every news we get make us think the game is dead.

Look what Human Head has tweeted:

Just a quick announcement that the Official Rune FB page is now live.... Please share the news - get folks to... http://t.co/UQo5R1m6
https://twitter.com/#%21/humanheadgames/status/191619456714285057

What kind of studio would announce some kind of Kickstarter-level project when they are supposed to be working on AAA game?
They don't mention Kickstarter but come on, announcing a project related to Rune through a FB page?! There's still no official words but whatever Prey 2 status is, the guys at Human Head don't seem to be involved with it anymore. Or they are using weird ways to prove otherwise.

I was really looking forward to playing Prey 2, hopefully Bethesda will make an official comment soon. Honestly tho if they cancelled it because it didnt meet their standards that fine with me. I would respect that more than buying an inferior game.

At this point too much time has passes from the rumored cancellation so I think it was just a rumor and nothing more, otherwise they would have made it official soon after.
Delaying cancellation announcements has never happened before.

HUMAN HEAD STUDIOS, If Bethesda is responsible for the cancellation, see if another publisher will buy the game of Bethesda like Square Enix did with True Crime Hong Kong, that game is now called Sleeping Dogs. Prey 2 is a work of art and you should try with all your might to save it.

Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards.

not cancelled then

The game is not canceled! Yes! Thanks Bethesda.

It doesn't smell good for Human Head though. But the project matters first, great news. I'm happy that Bethesda take care so much about the AAA expectations.

Man, Bethesda sounds superpissed at Human Head in that post.

At least it's just delayed. Delays are usually a good thing in the long run.

(also, I'd like to preempt any "Duke Nukem Forever herpa derp." That was an anomaly.)

I doubt you'll much care if one random person says thank you, but I'll say it anyway... Thank you Bethesda for not cancelling it. <3

Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.

Skyrim on PS3 - 11/11/11. Just saying.

I have a tough time believing everything in that article. Why would HH stop working on the game in November but sign up to do multiple GCD talks about it? (Particularly if they'd already moved onto Rune 2 pre-production.)

maybe they signed up in advance and waited to see how things went and when the talks had not progressed cancelled at the last minute ?

the articles I have read more or less saying because they have moved onto rune 2 that more or less proves they aren't working on prey 2 but it is conjecture.

we aren’t commenting on the game’s development beyond what was said in the statement
the official word is there is no official word

Absolutely delighted to find out it's not cancelled but soon followed by anxiety on the pssible real reasons for the "delay". For one I hope it doesn't go to a different studio. Second if it was all because of a strike or salary contract amendments then that really bugs me. Grown ups act like such children when it comes to money. No one knows how to handle it properly or fairly. If the strike rumors are true then either HHS is being underpaid or the opposite and they put there own game in jeopardy for there greed. I'm guessing it's more likely that Zenimax is the one to blame and gave them a very restrictive "unfair" contract. We already know how publishers can really screw the devs out of certain things that should really go to the devs to begin with. But at least Zenimax isn't as evil as EA, well not yet anyways.

It's true the talks could have been scheduled before trouble arose. But if the time line of that article is correct why would Brian Karis have been surprised and unhappy that he couldn't give a talk about Prey 2 - he'd apparently stopped working on the game three months prior and it had been at least a month since publishing talks with Bethesda fell through. This isn't to say he wasn't still invested in the game, but presumably after everything was suspended and both parties moved on Zenimax's later objection would have been expected.

That is a very good point. That hadn't even crossed my mind.
Consider this though, developers normally lie. Proof look at any EA developer when things don't go the company's way. From them we get such gems as RPGs are becoming less relevant until Skyrim showed them how full of crap they were. Then you have developers like Team Ninja who work with another company to make their cinematics. This pretty much rules out anyone other than them capable of ruining Metroids story and yet they blamed Nintendo.

You don't have to dig deep to uncover more bs. Such as the Silent Hill Downpour developer making a crappy combat survival horror game (which was okay story wise) and blaming clunky controls on their failure.

Point it wouldn't be surprising if he was lying. Hopefully not and I do think he was on the up and up but you can never know. Plus if they quit development wouldn't Bethesda have immediately moved on to another developer. I wish Bethesda would comment on this other than their comment that kind of makes it sound true.

This thread is already quite tense, if we start tossing around blame and accusations it will get ugly quickly. Accusations that someone has lied when you have no solid evidence are a particularly good at getting things fired up, and it's a bad idea to through baseless accusations around in general.

I'd like to clarify that I think Brian Karis was entirely honest when he said he was devastated to have his talk canceled. I brought it up because it seems inconsistent with the story we're getting from these articles, but it makes me doubt the completeness of these articles, not the character of Karis. I doubt the story is entirely false, but it is unconfirmed and from an unnamed source - we don't how much of this information is first hand, we don't know how it could be biased, and we don't know if anything important is missing or was withheld. At best we have an incomplete picture, and as such I'd be careful treating this as hard fact.

Plus if they quit development wouldn't Bethesda have immediately moved on to another developer.
It's unlikely they'd have someone lined up like this. Even if they did the process of setting up a publisher/developer contract isn't something that gets hammered out in a matter of hours.
