This Looks amazing. Does it require Steam By default?

If it has at least half the variety that http://www.nethack.org/ does, then it will be a blast.

I really want to play this, but I'm already borderline insane.

When I read about LoG, I remember this exchange between the dev and a potential customer:

good thing about indies, they don't need to hold meeting on every changes they make in a game.

Nope. You can also get a DRM-free copy off their site (which comes with an optional Steam key I think), or from http://www.gog.com/gamecard/legend_of_grimrock.

Here's the one review I read of it so far. http://www.destructoid.com/review-legend-of-grimrock-225514.phtml

Based on that, it sounds more promising than I originally thought, so I placed my order earlier today at GoG. It's cheap, why not. Not expecting game of the year or anything, but definitely sounds like old skool fun.

Pre-ordered it already @ gog, for only 12 bucks....Now waiting for the download link!

Looks neat, but I think making movement square/90 degree based is a mistake. There is no reason modern games should do that They should have taken a que from one of thei inspirations Ultima Underworld which was the first true 3d dungeon crawler with no squares or 90degree limitations.

As SOON as I saw that it was grid-based I couldn't slap my debit-card number in fast enough, that was the sole reason for me even pre-ordering it!

HEH, even though I don't own a printer, I'll still be using it, I'll just have to alt-tab while map-making, and yes they have an auto map toggle, for those who want to go old-school!

BTW, LOVE your Avatar!

The more I look at it, the more I want to play, but it'll probably have to wait to be a sale or something, maybe near Christmas, after I play through my little backlog I've got going.

Looks interesting, but I'm unsure about the "live action" thing. The graph-and-grid party based RPGs I played back in the day were all turn-based (Wizardry, Bard's Tale....) Having stuff able to walk up and smack you while you're trying to manage a party of people seems like it could be annoying. But that's probably just inexperience talking.

Game is out, trailer reminds me much of the original Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder series. Price is right for an old school game with improved graphics.

Anybody played it yet?? Bugs? Incompatibilities? player reviews?

Only played a tiny bit (party creation, explored a bit). I was stumped for a little bit how to make them attack anything at first, lol. Graphics - look great. Mood/atmosphere in the very beginning, great.

My one initial nitpick is that, on my pc at least, the movement response (side to side and turn) is almost too fast. A bit confusing for me at times, but I'll get used to it.

It's mentioned in the Gog forums if you're keeping up with those, but I'll mention it here too: make sure you run this game with vsync on or it'll overheat the GPU (in the 90's) like crazy the entire time. I usually run with vsync off but can't do it with this game.

Not for me, but I'm playing on my laptop with its 2.2GHz Duo Core and integrated Intel graphics - actually annoyingly slow movement and key response

Didn't that happen with a Bethesda game? Like Fallout or something?

That happens with my Battlefield 3. I have FRAPs running while playing, so I stay at 30fps, but when I turn it off between rounds, my fps jumps to 80+ and I can hear my GPU fan spin up haha.

For some reason the texture resolution keeps sticking to medium for me. Whenever I change it to high the game reloads the screen but it still sticks to medium. I can set it to low just fine, and I can also change any other option just fine.

Maybe some sort of bugged auto-detect feature?

Also there aren't any audio sliders, just an on/off button for sound and music.

A small oversight. They'll probably patch that in.

Still very early notes:

--no evenly shared party experience, so if you want everyone to level up fairly timely, gotta make sure they're all attacking with something. Not sure how it works exactly, but if the ones in the back do nothing, they get nothing. Maybe xp sharing based on how much %dmg each chr. does?
--been playing sporadically over the afternoon, so only on lvl2. May start over. Custom party and didn't realize how the skills worked for the mage...thus he can't use/cast any spells or use scrolls he finds, the gimp
--the poison spitting plants on lvl2 kicked my clvl-1 and clvl-2 party butt, lol
--It's actually thrilling to find a pair of leather pants and some extra rocks to throw!
--early puzzles are easy, hopefully they get a bit more challenging
--love hunting for the secret rooms!
--hotkeys for attacking would have been nice. Kind of a pain to r-click on the portrait hands all the time.
--needs a quicksave button.
