The community demands blood. It's Catface VS Varus in a staring competition. My money's on the big one.

The bigger one is the one who wins.. Profit? :hubbahubba:

If it was really peaceful here we'd be able to have a chat box...

For a while everything was good on the Elder Scrolls general discussion, the only thing being people who liked Morrowind more than Oblivion spoke out a bit too often, there were no complaint threads though.

Just when Skyrim was announced everyone seemed to love each other in the Skyrim section, that was until the GI mag came out and some people decided they already were just waiting for the TES game after Skyrim, Skyrim being a lost cause.

After a while the Skyrim general discussion learnt of more information, and with each bit of info, more people hated Skyrim, and more people joined the forums and loved Skyrim. By the end of Skyrim's development, the people who had been around since the beginning hated Skyrim, and the new people loved it. I stopped going on the forums because so many new people had come that I did not know anybody anymore. I could not recognize a single username.

By the end, even the people who joined the forums later hated skyrim. The forum is now a discussion of" "Skyrim... worst bethesda game yet?

The community discussion has nothing on going to talk about. All things people speak of they stop speaking of. Unless two members have a massive argument that they are really emotionally involved in, then when the two are in another thread, there will be no hatred. And those arguments don't show up much here.
Well thanks for bringing your opinion about the Skyrim/TES boards over to the "peaceful" section for us.

I remember when Community Discussion had a much faster pace than this and a lot more discussion of news (as in "Man weighs 400kilos kindof news)and whatnot.

I think Mankar Camoran's a bit bitter about something. He reminds me of the majority of DevianTART's posters: even though they spend lots of time there, they're still constantly complaining about how it svcks. I find it a strange thing.

I think it's just perfect. There's lots to talk about, good discussion, good community, and when I have a disagreement it's always civil. Stormrider's game quizzes are a nice bonus, too. Hm. I wonder why that thought just popped into my head...

Maybe I've just gotten more cynical and bitter since I joined these forums but I liked it a lot better back in the summer of 2009 IIRC. There was a good number of forum members who were constantly funny and I loved it, now it just seems a lot more boring, I only keep it open on one tab out of habit more than anything.

All the conflict is below the surface. It's not much better than any other forum, except people here are polite when they don't like you. Problem people are quickly dealt with, hence the peaceful look. Every once in awhile a topic will get heated, but not too often.

I think it partly has to do with CD being largely "regulars." The game forums (especially the more popular games) tend to attract trolls and whiners, which in turn svck in people that are mad about the trolling and whining. :P

Comparatively (internet forum wise) this community has always been rather friendly. There have been spurts of bad seeds trying to populate our membership over the years, but they never last very long.

Actually, I think the troublemakers might all be over in the Dishonored forums, asking for things like 3rd person perspective, character creation, and love interests.

I doubt that... What, maybe four active members during peak hours? I wish it did attract more traffic for controversy, as this would be the best free publicity for Arkane.

I don't seem to remember Morrowind General being quite so violent and suffocating.

The Morrowind forums were just as bad as Skyrim and Oblivion if not worse. Remember that from Daggerfall to Morrowind was the single greatest divergence for the series design wise, and this absolutely set the Daggerfall "purists" into a tail-spin of furry.

Not always. The 2004 elections were quite far from being mature and peaceful, which is also why political threads are no longer allowed.

Also, before Community Discussion we had General Discussion instead. General Discussion became a hell and was shut down in 2002, and for over 1.5 years this forum board had no off-topic section, until the former moderator Archeopterix convinced Bethesda to open up Community Discussion in march 2004.

And remember we were allowed image tags in a post, AND could change the post title on the thread update? Talk about unsuitable images and search mayhem... :bonk:

And thanks again Archie for bringing this back. *hugs proto-chicken* :hugs:

LOL! It is really annoying how it starts off as something else then degenerates into a rant about skyrim or the SG.

I love these forum history lessons from all the paleontologist members from back in the day.
I don't know anything that happened before, well, December 2005 :P

And even then, I don't remember most of what happened.

Skyrim General is a scary place. I don't seem to remember Morrowind General being quite so violent and suffocating.
Oblivion General was something halfway between the two.

Are the boards getting more aggressive or am I just getting old and tired? Hehehe

You should have been on some of the forums and chat sites ive been a moderator on, seriously all the forums here are cute and cuddly and fuzzy, id spend hours just not even bother giving warnings and banning people, you can only tell someone so many times.
This place is like a peaceful retirement home of forums.

When I first joined these forums, I was around... what? Twelve? Thirteen years old? I was what any kid my age would have been: Arrogant, annoying, and very... desiring of attention, to say the least. Thanks to the maturity of this forum, and the Elder Scrolls/Fallout Fan Fiction, I was able to mature at a very fast pace compared to those around me.

Over the years, the Community Discussion area has turned into more than just a sub-forum for me. Seeing members post on here is like seeing relatives communicate at family-get-togethers. You have SilverEagle, always asking questions. Ratslayer, a bit cranky, but still nice to have around for company. Old Andy, that guy doing the card tricks that everyone knows and loves... and so many other members.

I could list at least thirty people, along with their personality that I have seen on this forum.

My point here is that the Community Discussion is a forum like no other. You know the majority of the people posting, and in a way grow attachment toward them. The same can not be said for forums like the Skyrim General, World of Warcraft Forums (every single one), EA, and so on, so forth. It goes to show that not only does Bethesda succeed as a company for it's fans, but also that if done right, amazing communities can be formed.

I have been apart of this forum since late 2008, and I plan to be apart of it in late 2018. Keep up the good work moderators, and keep up the... other stuff, forum members.

Lot of people feel that way. The forum is fresh, new and exciting when they first join the place, and then as the years go by they get used to it or changes happens they don't like (like their favorite regular getting busy with life and stops coming or whatever) and the magic is gone. A lot of people here have their own personal forum golden age, be it 2001 or 2011 :P

Lately, I've "angered" ppl that disagreed with me on this board. I didn't do anything but post my opinion.

I'm probably biased but the times I remember I wasn't replying to anyone just posting in general.

Because this is where all of the semi-intelligent forumers tend to stay. And we do have debates, they are just civilized, usually.

The pace of community discussion has really slowed down though, it's almost boring. I've even thought about venturing into the *shudder* Skyrim forums. Dun Dun Duhhhhhhhhhh
