Community Discussion is so ... peaceful.

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 6:06 am

Anyone notice this? I haven't found myself disagreeing with hardly anybody. Everyone seems so passive, constructive, thoughtful. Some are even insightful. Outright helpful even. Most threads are just people talking about things, discussing issues or activities... where is all the fighting and vitriol of the games boards?

This is blatantly unlike the internet that I know. Who are you impostors?

I disagree too. You don't post in enough threads then.

Actually, I think the troublemakers might all be over in the Dishonored forums, asking for things like 3rd person perspective, character creation, and love interests.

Most topics aren't really debateable so nothing gets heated much, apart from the Pokemon thread yesterday that neared burny point.
Maybe all that ones that made it interesting were repressed and are binding their time for SUPER FIREY HELLL

Well community discussion has always been like this. Sure, sometimes there is a thread or two where people argue. But for the most part community discussion is pretty argue-free and like you said.... peaceful.

I think you realized that CD is peaceful because you come from Skyrim general discussion, where people constantly put down, argue, and are just overall very negative. Skyrim general discussion is mostly full of whiny, self-entitled complainers and negative human beings.

Most of the people that frequent these boards are relatively intelligent, reasonable, usually pleasant, helpful and polite as well.

Stay away from Skyrim General...dear gods...

Skyrim General is a scary place. I don't seem to remember Morrowind General being quite so violent and suffocating.
Oblivion General was something halfway between the two.

Are the boards getting more aggressive or am I just getting old and tired? Hehehe

I think it has to do with people hyping the game like crazy. I remember all the compaints after Oblivion was released, I see the same thing with Skyrim. People will go so far as to post complaint after complaint if they don't get what they want in a game. But, not all people canbe satisfied.

The complaints and negativity wore down in Oblivion general discussion after about a year. I'm thinking the same will happen in Skyrim general discussion.

I just thought we were all more refined with a higher standard of intellectually enticing petty arguments and poop flinging.

I know my poop flinging is..

..it's so refined it smells dainty when I leave the toilet. Like an angel just farted up your nose..

Not always. The 2004 elections were quite far from being mature and peaceful, which is also why political threads are no longer allowed.

Also, before Community Discussion we had General Discussion instead. General Discussion became a hell and was shut down in 2002, and for over 1.5 years this forum board had no off-topic section, until the former moderator Archeopterix convinced Bethesda to open up Community Discussion in march 2004.

It's for that very reason that I prefer to post here as opposed to places like Reddit.

I think it goes in waves. Every time a new game is announced or gets near release there's a sudden surge of new people who tend not to be quite as 'chillaxed' as the rest of us. lol...

There are likely many threads that can or is less peaceful than how you present the CD in general, but largely I agree with you. Most of the threads I write in here is nice and mostly have few negative posts.

It it far more intelligent at least, everyone has their opinion on things, and you can get into arguments with some people. On other topics you can end up having the same opinion, I guess it depends a lot on the thread really. But yeah people who dislike something usually don't spend hours in a thread dedicated to waht they dislike.

Yes people do get more along here than they do on other forums, and even other boards on this forum.

Oh my... I started on Skyrim General... not that I minded it at the time, but when I came to CD, it felt so wonderfully peaceful. Pretty, pretty CD.

lol, you think Skyrim General is scary? I've seen far worse than that.

In fact since I joined up here some months ago I've been very surprised with the atmosphere that I've found here. To a large degree everything is peaceful.

For a while everything was good on the Elder Scrolls general discussion, the only thing being people who liked Morrowind more than Oblivion spoke out a bit too often, there were no complaint threads though.

Just when Skyrim was announced everyone seemed to love each other in the Skyrim section, that was until the GI mag came out and some people decided they already were just waiting for the TES game after Skyrim, Skyrim being a lost cause.

After a while the Skyrim general discussion learnt of more information, and with each bit of info, more people hated Skyrim, and more people joined the forums and loved Skyrim. By the end of Skyrim's development, the people who had been around since the beginning hated Skyrim, and the new people loved it. I stopped going on the forums because so many new people had come that I did not know anybody anymore. I could not recognize a single username.

By the end, even the people who joined the forums later hated skyrim. The forum is now a discussion of" "Skyrim... worst bethesda game yet?

The community discussion has nothing on going to talk about. All things people speak of they stop speaking of. Unless two members have a massive argument that they are really emotionally involved in, then when the two are in another thread, there will be no hatred. And those arguments don't show up much here.
