People who make posts like yours annoy me, not only were you wrong, had you been right the fact that you seem to take comfort and joy from someone losing all their data is quite cruel.

What happened to him svcks.... I'd be pretty miffed myself I assure you.

However if it was because of my guess.... IMO it would be deserved.

Since it isn't? Well my comment doesn't apply does it.

But I truly did think it funny when I thought someone never manually saved and then complained about it... and I won't apologize for that.

Sounds like OP just got screwed..... This is the first I've ever heard of it though.

I'm on ps3 and have multiple characters. However I haven't actually started a new game. I just start a new character at a save right before u create your character. Maybe try that.

This happened to me as well, but I figured out the problem. If you save over the Prisoner file that the game auto-creates, for some reason you will lose the character if you try to make another new one. Every time you create a new character, save a separate, totally new file. Hope I helped.

Start over, DO NOT save over your "Prisoner" file, it is there purely to skip the opening cutscene whenever you want to create a new character.

Yah... I've only started a "new game" twice... the first time and once more... the second time I made sure not to delete the first save point as a start point for all future games.... no need to ride the wagon again really.

You can back up any saves to a flash drive easily.

As far as saves going missing on a new game, on PS3, I have not experienced the issue for any of my characters.

Some of them I created on my Prisoner save, and some were completely new.

I'm pretty sure they were autosaves bro, sorry for the luck.

I also heard there's this bug on PS3 where, like, Kim Jong Il pops up on occasion at the load screen and craps out a Dwemer.

Pure conjecture, but it totally happened to me.

I think

Looks like this is what happened. I really appreciate it. It happened to you too so I know why you didn't laugh, tell me to get a PC, or bash the PS3 but either way thanks.

Lol I wish I had known this before. I deleted many of my files until recently (because you have to do it one by one anyways) I stopped because the save folder takes a smidge longer to open with more files and I didn't think I really needed to have level 1 characters. Now I'm afraid to start a new game even when I'm done with this character because I like her. Oh well. Lesson learned

I play on both PC and ps3 and have more than one toon with their own associated saves. I merely use different save slots.

Seems that creating a new-game works on PS3 by creating a new folder, erasing the contents which were once there. That is what happens when they try to use windows methods on a non-windows device..................................create a separate user/profile for each new-game.

That might be best, because even if this does not happen, it is still easy to accidentally overwrite save slots when switching between characters.

I'm on ps3 and have multiple characters. However I haven't actually started a new game. I just start a new character at a save right before u create your character. Maybe try that.

This is how a lot of people start new characters, so that is probably how they avoided this issue.

Thanks for nothing. You and hundreds of other people have multiple characters, but your are merely missing the point. The problem that some of us have encountered is that saving over the "Prisoner" file the game creates erases your previous manual save. Perhaps other people will read this so they don't run into this problem and knowing that you and other people have more than one character will not help them. Knowing not to save over the "Prisoner" file the game creates hopefully will.

Are you kidding me? I really like this game so I'm not really mad but it just svcks I just lost my first character. So the point is, does anyone have a reason why this is the case? Or at least why there isn't even a disclaimer saying "Starting a New Game will erase your previous files." C'mon Man.

This is a known PS3 issue that occurs when you start a new game. Just double save whenever you plan to start a new game. Only the latest file gets saved over to create the prisoner file. I've learn that having multiple saves is the way to go anyway. This way you avoid other game breaking glitches. Mostly those involving crashing and freezing on occasions.

I love how this is a 'known' glitch.

Don't start characters with the same name...

Don't expect your autosaves to last forever...

Backup your saves...

/end problem

Do you play on PS3? Then how would you know if it player issue or system issue? I save multiple files per character. Everytime I start a new game the last save is overwriten by the prisoner file. What part do you not understand. This doesn't happen on PC or Xbox as far as issues has been reported. So unless you play on PS3 your input is not needed.

Do you see my avatar?

Yes, I play on PS3.

And this is the first thread I've EVER heard of this issue.

Which leads me to think two things :

1. You are just very unlucky, and may need to reinstall or get a new game disk.

2. User error.

I wish you luck, and highly recommend backing up your game saves for any RPG outside of your console.

I haven't had this problem, rather one with my new game saves mixing in with the saves from my other character. I am aware there is a mod for this but because of the problem of glitchy saves when you make a new character, I wish Bethesda would fix it so that our characters have separate games to load for each of the platforms.

If its the first you heard of this then you are not very informed. Maybe you should go google the issue see how well known it is. Far as I know it was recently patched with 1.2 which i don't have connection for my ps3 at this time to update too. It only happens when you start a new game after shutting down the system.

What I do to make sure it doesn't overwrite, is just go to the 'save game' menu, and create a new save. That way, even if a new game overwrites your past save, you have a spare.
