Dragons always show up at the worst time. Every single time. I hate them.

You bought a game with dragons as a central theme what were you expecting rainbow coloured poneys ?.

He's basically a Daedric horse. His eyes... ugh. See right through you. No spiky armour though :(

I use my horse just to get say from Whiterun to Riften and help me carry some loot. It is very tedious to drag loot from a non-city to a major city.

Maybe I should just leave the loot behind? But really they give the player a little bit of relief, I would say and I think most players make it on foot mostly, so being in an area you visited before and killed everything, sure a horse is ok.

But leaving your horse at the Whiterun stables, he shouldn't just show up at some cave 10 days later near Riften. For me it was ok at the time, I had sooooo much loot...but he shouldn't be there at all.

Horses are good for loot-transport, your char's feet are better for discovering stuff. Found a couple of caves quite near Whiterun today, just by walking/running. Still needed the damn horse to go back to town

The only way to keep horses alive is to not use them.

They are worthless, even more so than in Oblivion.

3 reasons why i don't use horses.
1) Only medium HP and no armor let them did quickly.
2) rage / stupid AI (of course they run around and try to kill mudcraps, wolfes... you name it)
3) In Oblivion i use a "fortfy speed 100 + waterwalking" spell on my horse. (i miss this [censored] xD)

just sell magic weapons and armors you'll never use (like two handed weps if you use one handed) and gems and you'll have plenty of gold.
there's also hundreds of other ways to make money in skyrim, that's why I said "as an example" in my previous post. ;)

ok, I don't consider mods in my answers sorry (I play on 360), maybe the OP don't use them?
if the OP uses mods then he posted in the wrong section, but if he does then it means he can resurrect his dead horse with the console so no big deal anyway.

It'd be great if there were separate "fast travel on foot" and "fast travel by horse" options.

That being said, I'm wondering if it's possible to use a horse to climb to [towards the end of the MQ]. Probably not, but I might just try it one of these days.

EDIT: Didn't realize this was the General forum.

In 400+ hours of gameplay over 5 characters, I have purchased only one horse.
I bought it in Markath around level 25 and it was killed in the first 10 seconds of a fight with a bunch of forsworn about 5 minutes later.

The good news was it took some attention off me. The bad news was it took ALL the attention off me.
They forswarmed all over it at the poor thing never had a chance.
WHY DO YOU HATE MY HORSE, FORSWORN?

That 1000 gold would have been better spent skipping the septims across the water by the Crabber's Shanty.

I steal horses occasionally and will usually take advantage of those random, ownerless horses you can find in the wild, but I will never pay for another horse.

(oh and Shadowmere)

Go to any Tavern and get a Bounty Radiant Quest. They give around 500 - 1,000 gps as a reward.
