Dawnguard DLC - General Information and Discussion - Thread

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:20 am

I see your point, but if you didn't hear until you had either undertaken a mission that involved vampires, or contracted sanguinare vampiris and been seen in a town, would make more sense, to me anyway.

That's fair. Some kind of story trigger would be cool, or maybe hearing rumors only in certain areas, but they have to hit the right balance between immersion and accessibility. It depends, of course, on the actual content of the rumors too. Still, this suits me better than the Fallout system did, so I consider it progress.

Not sure if this will even be possible, I'm going to attempt to avoid getting spoiled on how to actually start the Dawnguard quest. I'd prefer to simply add it to the game world and play a regular playthrough until I encounter the content naturally.

Regards to future DLC… The Elder Scroll has proven it can take you back in time...

What if it took you 2000 years into the future of Skyrim… Artificial intelligences, machine built cities, and everything Skyrim offers now… but in the FUTURE.

Do it Bethesda.
That sounds horrible x) At least for a TES Game,And i think 2000 years in the future wouldnt be so different for the tamriel we know and love.

Possibly my single worst fear to happen to any medieval themed game D:

That sounds like a great idea. I played Fallout 3 Game of the Year, and even though you got the radio transmissions in the game, I ignored them because I knew I wasn't going to head straight for DLC on a new character. So I came across the Point Lookout area basically at random and then took the boat to the new areas. It was pretty fun and hard because I was much lower level than was probably optimal.

I am still totally on board with this DLC, but is anyone else SLIGHTLY put off that they are giving a perk tree for being a vampire lord, when they left out basic TES skills like hand to hand?

I don't get it.. I thought perk trees were for skills.. not cool abilities that don't really fit into spells or powers.. Seems a bit extravagant for not even having hand to hand as a skill.

End of the day I'm going to love the DLC probs as much as I loved Bloodmoon though... Wish I could be properly upset with BGS. lol

Edit:

Kirkbride needs to stop... it's no longer interesting, and now completely funny in a pathetic kind of way.

It adds the soul cairn, a daedric realm. Sort of like a realm of spirits and ghosts

Lol, it adds the castles dawnguard and volkihar to the main world.

And do not say "is that all" to a daedric realm. I am assumin you have never been to the shivering isles? It had one huge city and multiple towns the size of riverwood and rorikstead. Oblivion realms are large areas. I am assuming at least a quarter the size of skyrim. There are quite possibly multiple towns in it.

I really hope they do a DLC that focuses on the Thalmor. An all out war with the Aldmeri Dominion in Skyrim would be great, after the civil war with whatever side that you chose. And i would also like to Chrysamere as weapon to obtain. Dawnguard looks really good, can't wait.

i didn't mean it like that

but out of interest, how big is the soul cairn? because I was getting the impression it was like the equivalent of sovngarde for this DLC

Lol, so many people complaining the game doesnt add any landmass or towns when it shows we get the soul cairn.

I am expecting that area to be at least as big as blackreach, and have many quests to do within. We know it is a large area, wasn't the entire game of battlespire about the soul cairn?

Lol, sovnegarde is a tiny mead hall. The soul cairn is huge, it just depends on how much they make explorable. Previous daedric realms have been much MUCH bigger than sovnegarde.

I would count on an area the size of blackreach at least, shivering isles at most.

Yeah :) But Shivering isles is much different deadric realm then Soul cairn. I dont expect towns and villages there. i am still excited,Not sure i there are friendly NPCs in soul cairn and so on.

They did confirm in one of the gameplay videos that the ghosts there give you quests.

Oh okay,Ghosts :) But soul cairn is cool but people should not expect it to be full of cities and villages, and having "living" NPCs.

Oh definately, it isnt going to be as lively as the shivering isles. I am expecting it to be large and full of sungeons and places to explore.

As far as life, I would be surprised if it had anything larger than say riverwood populated by ghosts, or maybe a castle of undead.

In a recent article in Eurogamer, I herad that Vampire Lords are "weaker" during the day. I am wondering how much weaker we really will be. I would think it would be more than that of a standard Vampire.

besides, no one has been able to reach soul cairn since Battlespire. I am interested to know how any character there has reached it!
