Dawnguard DLC - General Information and Discussion - Thread

I wonder if being infected with the Lycanthropy disease(werewolf) will affect or prevent you from becoming a Vampire Lord............

It won't. It will most likely be handled the same way as being a Vampire and then becoming a Werewolf. Where one will replace the other. I'm also assuming that you will be turned into a Vampire Lord similar to the way you get turned into a Werewolf.

I'm beyond excited for this DLC, even if I do have to remake two of my characters now.

I suppose I don't have to... but things would "fit" better within the idea behind my Trio (2 brothers and a father) if I did. I'll get around to making Mother eventually. Thanks to the new Vamp/Werewolf trees of course.

Speaking of that... anybody else ever hoped for DLC that could "link" characters? I'd love to be able to setup a fight between my two brothers (One the leader of the College of Winterhold presently and the other the leader of the Dark Brotherhood). Furthermore, it would provide some pretty hardcoe challenge to boot. I actually designed them to be as such that they're only true "kryptonites" would be each other.

Random side note... can anyone remember Bethesda recently wiping old forum accounts? I'm not sure whether or not I'm just an idiot and forgot my old e-mail address or whether my old account got wiped (and I certainly don't remember the username =/)

Well we have animations for filling wayshrines with blood. So it might be like the KoTN questline but an evil version.

From what I've seen, the vampires have every advantage. I'll have to join them I guess.

[censored], please. Any group -I- join has their advantage raised to over 9000.

I want powers not weapons. I liket the Armored Troll, but the Fire Horse and new powers trump just about everything I've seen from Dawnguard. Unless Dawnguard will let me remain a werewolf (i'm pretty sure they will), then there's nothing there for me. Dawnguard needs power not just fancy gear that a vampire can loot off them anyway. I don't care for armor b/c it all evens out in the end.

It just seems lopsided. I hope the Dawnguard have special magic or some... powers. Otherwise my valiant nord will turn very evil very fast.

If the benefits of joining the dawnguard are new armours, new weapons and crossbows, whats to stop a vampire lord from killing a dawnguard and robbing their corpse? i was going to join them but im leaning more towards the Vampire lords side.

Regards to future DLC… The Elder Scroll has proven it can take you back in time...

What if it took you 2000 years into the future of Skyrim… Artificial intelligences, machine built cities, and everything Skyrim offers now… but in the FUTURE.

Do it Bethesda.

I think Soul Cairn is definitely going to be a landmass in a new worldspace. It's a realm of Oblivion, after all.

As for the areas for Castle Volkihar and Castle Dawnguard, it's not clear yet where exactly those would be located. As Point Lookout was mentioned as a reference point for the size of the DLC, my guess is that there will be a new Tamriel worldspace area added in addition to the Soul Cairn.
Those trips to Oblivion are getting all to frequent. I really wish to see more of Tamriel... If Hearthfire doesn't use that closed gates on the borders then I don't think any other DLC will do :(

According to IGN, it will be possible to become a werewolf again if you decide you no longer want to be a vampire lord. I wonder how that will work? Will there be new ways to become a werewolf or (more likely) will you just simply revert back to being a werewolf the instant you're cured of being a vampire lord? That is an all new question. Source: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/06/06/e3-2012-skyrim-for-vampires

I am kind of disagreeing with them as to where some of the new territory will be, however. I'm certain that the Dawnguard castle (whatever it's called) will be located in a new area off of the Rift, at least from the look of the area.

Additionally, I think it was the Totem of the Moon that was said to be the one that summons werewolves to fight at your side, BTW. It was mentioned in the latest issue of Game Informer.

Perhaps free-roaming werewolves, who have a chance to infect you when attacking?
But I doubt the new forts will just magically turn up in places we've already seen, it would certainly rustle my jimmies a bit. I'm thinking new islands off the coast.

I didn't say it would be in the explorable vanilla landscape, though. I said that Fort Dawnguard could be located in a new area extending off from the Rift, since the forest around the castle looks similar to what we've seen in the Rift. It's also possible that it won't be located off of the Rift. I don't know if that has been revealed yet. Regardless, the new castles/forts look awesome. it is possible, however, that Castle Volkihar may be located near where the article stated, but I don't know if it's really possible to tell from the trailer and screenshots.

Also, free-roaming werewolves who have a chance to infect you when attacking would be awesome. There are a lot of complaints about not being able to become a werewolf again after becoming cured.

  • The daughter of Lord Harkon's Name is Serana

Am I the only one hoping that this character is potentially 'faction' neutral, a follower, and a potential wife? From the trailer it seems we rescue her, and potentially return her to her father. It would be nice if she had mixed feelings about her father/his plan and could be talked into helping you, and the Dawnguard, by proxy. A 'vampire lord'ette companion would be a lot of fun. I suppose the fact that she would be unable to go into sunlight pre-emptively may squash my hopes.

I just want a companion and potential bride that actually has a backstory of interest.

Guess we will have to see what happens. At the very least I imagine a mod will be made to have her become a companions.

...

Huh... I just realised i'm getting a bit too attached to the idea with little to no info. I may yet despise the character - or she might even die in a set-piece, We just don;t have enough info. Rambling, ovar.

On the rest of the DLC; i'm kind of irritated about it being Xbox onry for so long, since its still going to be the better part of a month til release even if things go to plan. At this rate, if they do three or four DLCs and stck to the month of exclusivity for each, it could be over another year before we have the 'complete' Skyrim.

I'm a little concerned about the fire-horsey. Hopefully it will be restricted to the Soul Cairn. Otherwise its a little 'WoW' for my tastes, but that is easily solved by not summoning it in Tamriel.

Otherwise i'm pretty interested and will be glad to expand Skyrim a little further. I will freely admit vampires and werewolves were not my first choice for DLC (I would personally prefer a small area of Morrowind opening up, perhaps the part on the boarder, and fighting the Thalmor.) but it looks well done and might give my Dovahkiin a little interesting stuff to do than hunt Dragons and kill Dragonpriests.

Hate to be that guy, but the fire-horsey is seen in Skyrim's regular overworld in new footage.

I'm disappointed too. On the bright side, as you said I doubt you'll NEED it. I never use horses (though mounted combat may change this) to begin with.

Watching the G4TV special made me hate vampires and their abilities even more… Can't wait to kill off these frakking vampires.

The werewolves shall have their day of reckoning.

Yeah, Todd Howard supposedly said that werewolves are getting some things, which almost implies more than just a perk tree. Though if he just meant the perk tree, I don't know why he didn't just say perk tree. But things are pointing to the possibility of more than a perk tree, which is odd. Getting to the point where it's hard to determine which line of thinking one should go in terms of whether werewolves will just be getting a perk tree or getting more than a perk tree. And yes, I'm counting all the powers, etc as the perk tree thing.

So we can we take this as confirmation that wild Werewolves are confirmed?

I've watched the E3 live yesterday but I might have missed something. Is it true that players still having the beast blood will be able to become vampires anyway in Dawnguard?

No, you have to cure Lycanthropy to become a Vampire Lord.

That's what I thought. Where in the video or anywhere else can I point someone so that they understand this?

I don't know if it was mentioned in the video, but if you have Lycanthropy, you have 100% resistance to disease, so you can't become a vampire.

As vampires also have 100% resistance to disease, it is not possible to become both at the same time.
