Dawnguard Info and Discussion - Thread #38

I don't mind if it isn't available to people outside the U.S.A. but it would have made sense to mention it in the application. I doubt people would rage about it too much considering the public release is out in a few weeks.

Ach, it's the internet.
What else could they expect? :P

Och, no need to rage.
If we didn't have a chance, big deal.
We're still getting it sooner than the PS3/PC lads, so we're still winning for a moment ^_^

Considering they haven't all been sent I hope there's still a chance to receive one later on. Even if its a very small chance

I am disappointed that I won't be eligible for the beta, especially after coming back from Rockness expecting to see a beta invitation in my inbox (I'm an optimist) but I can buy it in two weeks. Gives me time to prepare a character or two.

I sincerely doubt that nationality played any part in selection. Geography, perhaps.

I understand his anger. Member status should have absolutely nothing to do with the beta.

But still, I agree. Don't get so angry at Bethesda.

you would think they would like diversity in nationality a little bit, I bet people of different nationalities would have different playing styles to test the dlc

I love how many people are getting upset that they didn't get into the beta... I mean come on, it's a free beta, which means the applicant base is huge, and they are giving away the dlc to some of the beta testers (likely the ones who find the most/worst bugs). Considering these two facts, we can assume that everyone who knew where to go probably applied to it. If that's the case, then the odds of any individual person getting in drop to essentially negligable amounts. Add to this the motive that many have (most seem to just want to play it early... in a buggy form... which takes up slots that people who acutally wanted to bug-hunt could have gotten) and we can see that bethesda either had to judge carefully based off of forum posts (this probably happened for a few people, but there simply isn't time to do this for everyone) or had to randomly assign beta entry. Either way it means that bethesda gets their quota of testers (however many are genuine testers and however many are just people who want in early notwithstanding) and the game (hopefully) gets realeased on time. Now here's the part that kills me, I see plenty of people raging that they didn't get in. Some seem to think they are owed entry into this dlc and that it's some sort of lie/crime/evil thingy that they are not in it. I understand the internationals being upset (just a little) if the rumor is true that the beta is USA only, but on the other hand I really can't see it being too much of an issue, as the aforementioned odds of getting in are so freakishly low. People just need to calm down a bit and wait for dawnguard, it's not going anywhere and there'll be plenty of time to enjoy it after two weeks.

EDIT:

I understand his anger. Member status should have absolutely nothing to do with the beta.

I disagree, above I (briefly) touched on a possible method of determining a quality tester from your everyday gamer that just wants in early, if a person has a known history of reporting bugs and offering constructive critisism on the forums I think it stands to reason that he should get a better chance at the beta than some idiot that just spams "Y U NO HAZ RIDING DRAGONZ!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! BETH IS ******** CUZ DEY NO HAZ RIDING DRAGONZ!!!!!!"

Is it really U.S only or is it that U.S get the beta first? If it is only US then why bother asking me if I was a US or International player. Wasting time is the worst thing.

I'm mostly curious if tax consideration could have led to a U.S. only beta (if that's even the case). As I said previous, I doubt that nationality of applicants were a consideration, even IF the beta were US-only.

What if someone has only posted 8 times? Each one of those 8 posts have been bug reporting.

Now you have a memeber who has over 3,000 posts. He too has posted 8 bugs.

What I'm saying is, the higher ranked member should not have privelege over someone of a lower rank who could have been here just as long. Just my opinion.
