Definitive ending to New Vegas poll.

Oh, and to tack onto this. I don't want it, but I strongly suspect the ending will end with death for most if not all of them. Seems to be a cliche in RPGs now.

So long as the endings aren't crap, I really don't mind. Some games have plots. Plots are stories. Stories have arcs and a resolution.

The End.

Just because Fallout 3 did it doesn't mean this one will. Fallout 1 ended with the vault dweller walking off into the sunset. Obsidian won't repeat Fallout 3.

I recognize that PC users will retaliate with Continuation mods, so I'm for it. It'll be refreshing to have a real ending, and get a couple different playthroughs. Then I can just fire up a continue-after-ending mod and do my thing.

The most frustrating part of Fallout 3 was that the definite ending wasn't any good. When done right, a definite ending can be quite rewarding.

This. This, this, a thousand times this.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand I like to explore, but I also like to get the MQ out of the way now. This will prove an issue. But on the other hand it does kinda make sense.

Bah. I'm sure the community will release a mod. They did for 3. I'm not too worried about it.

Having 1 ending that I like is better than having 100 different possible endings that I don't like.

http://www.1up.com/news/fallout-new-vegas-definitive-ending

"We put a lot of effort into the ending slides -- we know those slides are really popular with people so we want to make sure there's a huge amount of variety and reactivity with that stuff. We weren't really focused on new features so much as to add a really rich sense of reactivity to the players and the choices they make."

"We want to make it a definitive ending. Initially, we talked about trying to support post-game play, but because the changes that can happen at the end of the game are pretty major, this is what it basically came down to: either have the changes feel really major in the end slides and then have them not be very major after the end of the game, or make them really minor and not that impactful. And we feel it's better to say, 'you know what, we're just going to end the game, and the changes you made can be minor or really really big, but because we can't script all the changes to the Wasteland to let you keep playing, we're just going to stop it there.' But we do let the player know when that's about to happen-- a sort of, 'the end of the game is coming, so we're saving your game right now, so if you want to keep your game going, you can, otherwise, it's about to be over.'"

Whether you decide to try to finish every quest in the game before the end, or simply end the game and go look for additional quest in new playthroughs, you're probably going to be busy. Sawyer noted, "We have a huge number of quests in this game. We've often said this is the same physical size as Fallout 3, which is true, but the amount of quest content is crazy."

It's not just F3, I'm hearing the cliche 'and so such and such hero gives his life for some amazing good plot device over the evil one.

It seems as the game is nearing its release date people are more mellow with it having an ending, which I think is good.
I like an ending personally as I create soooo many characters in beth games ( I know obsidian have made this ), I tend to see and do most things long before one takes a stab at completion.
So I tend to retire my characters as soon as the mq is over, whether or not it allows you to continue, as I like to try new things.
But not everyone plays as I do, and quite frankly no way is best as we all have our preferences. which leaves it up to the devs to decide how they wish to make it.
We can only judge after seeing and playing through it, as to it being a good thing so no matter is my vote.

Everything has an ending, from life to a game.

Even with Oblivion, you eventually put the game away and never play it again...thats an ending.

I don't mind definite ending to the main story line, but I think you should be able to do the quests you didn't finish afterwards.

I would love a great book that never ended. I won't finish a book for months just so I don't end it. I still haven't beat Bioshock 2 because I don't want it to end.

Um I sent Fawkes once and Charon into Project Purity.

No worries Free Roam lovers, there is 101% chance that there will be a mod that allows to play after completing the MQ. Oh, but it's PC only. Hahaha! PC's are superior to consoles in every way possible :D

By the way, one of the possiblities of the uncontinuable ending is that our character settles down (Like John Marston, R.I.P., Cowboy) and lives peacefully, occasionally defending his home\village\strip from invaders and [censored]. Though it rather won't be that way, but you know, everyone has a mind of his own :P

I don't understand why everyone is like "The game ends? But I want to free roam and do quests!" like you can't do that before you end the game, or something....

I think it's that there are people who want to complete every quest possible in the game, and the definitive ending makes it impossible to be able to look at the big ass completed quest list without seeing the eye-scarring Main quest. DISCLAIMER: But that's not my way of playing the game

i dont really care.
'cause in F3.
i waited patiently for broken steel as sentinel lyons just stood there, in the citadel. waiting.
and then of course, you can always just go and save before the final quest so you dont HAVE to end the game.

Ah, this thread & poll again. :)

Only problem I had with the FO3 ending was the quality of it - the dumb choices you were forced to make.

First playthrough, I went along, did sidequests, did the main quest, saw the final movie (~25 hours total).... and then reloaded my earlier save from before the "Final Mission" and ran off exploring the wasteland for another 50+ hours. No problems at all.

I sincerely hope that there's no BS-style DLC. The "more sidequests" DLC were fine, but the "continue the story that has ended" thing didn't really work. Of course, a good portion of that was because of the increased level cap and all the game-balance-destroying crap that went with it (annoying monsters, overpowered perks, too many skillpoints, etc).

I don't even bother installling BS these days when I do a reinstall of FO3 to play it again. It's just not an improvement.

or just save before the last quest so you CAN beat the game and then you can re-load that save and be like
"DUDE that was an awesome ending, and im just gonna go and finish the REST of the game as i patiently wait for an expansion pack! doodeedoodeedoo!"
