Did you kill....?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:23 pm

So did you kill Paarthunax? I'm not a big fan of the Blades in this game, so I kind of don't care if they dont talk to me any more, though I would like some more of those Dragon potions for perminant effects. But so far I have refused to kill Paarthunax, and dont think I will. What are the perks if you do?

I did not and will not on any playthrough. Someone will come along who joined The Blades and can clarify, but I suspect you just get their armor and maybe some quests. That being said: there could be something in expansions that require you to have joined The Blades. :P

Yeah - I think he understood why, even if the Greybeards didn't.

I killed him, and am glad to have done it. Basically, you get a few missions for the blade, get some neat armor and weapons, et cetera.

Gee, I took the weapons and armor without having to kill Big P. Didn't steal the weapons and armor, neither

Well at least it looked exactly like him..
It might be a bug, not sure but it honestly looks EXACTLY like him.

It's one of the spells you learn from the main quest, not sure where it is located, hence it was about 2 months ago.

No, I didn't. I beat the living [censored] out of the Blades for suggesting it and trying to pervert the word "justice." All in the name of "Justice," right Esbern? I Marked For Death Delphine like 6 times and then Fus Roh Dahed her off the mountain, last time I saw her she was stuck getting OHKOed by a couple of Mudcrabs at the bottom of the mountain.

Some of my characters will kill him
Its a matter of do you believe in retribtion or rehabiliation
Rehabitaltion for crimes is a modern idea, for most of history retribution/revenge was the norm so it seems entirely appropriate to me that thats what they are looking for, plus its what Vriddi as a worshipper of Malacath understands. No namby pamby forgiveness just because of a couple of thousands of years of good behaviour, your past misdeeds will catch you out

I like Paarthunax. He has helped me a lot more then the blades have. Plus is i like to have the ability to meditate on "Yol" for the +25% damage boost to the shout.
I use yol-toor-shul a lot.

I didn't kill him. I kinda got mad at the Blades for trying to strong arm me into doing it.

There's a console command that lets you leave him alive and do the Blades stuff anyway.

I was a little disgusted at the whole idea of having to either murder the dragon who saved mankind or lose the support of the Blades. It's one place where the lack of dialogue options representing anything a real person might say in the situation makes the game feel like a game and not like a world.

Rehabitaltion for crimes is a modern idea..
Technically Paarthanax didn't commit any crimes. It was in his nature to kill species that weren't dragons and he overcame (and still struggles with) that urge because he saw Alduin going too far. He makes the conscious choice every day to do the right thing and I won't punish him for successfully fighting his nature and helping me do the right thing. This is more about redemption than rehabilitation and that ain't new. :P

Nope, and I sabotaged the Blades by giving them the drunkest, most incompetent followers as members before I sided with him. What a bunch of losers.

There aren't many perks to killing him other than imaginary ones. I like having a blades character strictly for roleplaying. In this storyline, peace is impossible, and dragons persist causing problems. And I like the idea of building my little team of elite dragonslayers. The follower system isn't that great, but I like having certain characters in closer proximity, roleplaying them as friends.. Kharjo, Marcurio, Jenassa, Lydia, etc

edit: This probably sounds like a lame reason to some people, but it IS a roleplaying game, after all.

I dunno about anyone else but it really annoyed me that they actually kicked me out of the Blades. It really hit home when I went to Sky Haven Temple and saw everything was now marked as stealing. They ACTUALLY kicked me out! What nerve!

The moment Delphine suggested to Kill Paarthurnax was the moment the Blades became unworthy of the Dragonborn.

Paarthurnax may have commited some of the worst crimes in the history of Tamriel or Nirn, but in his defection, he saved more lives than had ever existed. That's certainly something we can't say about the genocidal monsters the Blades have become.

This is all assuming genocide is bad.

;)

Don't mind me. I don't want to look at everything as bad or good. Just different stories for different characters.
