Didnt the perk menu designer get the memo?

He migrated to the Elder Scrolls Online forum, where he continues to praise Bethesda - and now Zennimax's - every move :)
Yeah, I remember a time when he bashed everything about Bethesdas every move, now he can't stop praising them. Odd hmmmm.:S

Maybe he's like Mr. Myxlplyx from Superman? He spent one thousand years doing nothing, then another one thousand years saying everything is awful, and he'll spend the next one thousand years saying everything is amazing.

Not a big superman fan here but I get what your saying and it certainly seems that way about The Main Event, I have never seen somebody's opinion change so fast on these forums ever since I been here. He was so snide and abrasive and now its all flowers and sunshine.:P

I'm glad you are here in my apartment when I play Skyrim and am able to experience my time with Skyrim more accurately than I am...

Oh wait, you're not. I'm not wrong, but hey, thanks for playing.

Well according to you, my experiences with Skyrim are not what I have actually experienced, as you seem to know better than I what I have experienced in my hundreds of hours of Skyrim, so why don't you tell me?

Do you want a quick hit on why the menus are terrible? OK.

1. Random detection zones for mouse-clicks. If I get the wrong PIXEL, the menu closes. Instantly.
2. Lack of a "back", so I need to enter the menu multiple times to, say, change my weapon AND my dragon shout.
3. Inconsistancy. They don't all function equally. Sometimes, the mouse is useless. Other times, the keyboard is either stupid broken, or less-than-functional.
4. Dialogue menu often selects something other than what I selected.
5. Perk navigation is bad with the mouse, and worse with the keyboard.
6. Why is my Journal over in my "system" menu, rather than with my character-related stuff?
7. Active magic effects are buried far deeper than they need to be.
8. Abyssmal usage of screen space.
9. The font. It's too freaking futuristic for MASS EFFECT. Let alone TES.
10. I'd prefer to use command-line UNIX to Skyrim's UI.

With the exception of arguing about the font, ALL of the above problems do not exist on my Xbox 360 version of Skyrim. I'm sure this is due to the game being designed primarily with the Xbox platform in mind.

However, that doesn't excuse that the PC players got shafted if those issues are prevalent for everyone who plays PC. That svcks.

Pc players, do you actually hit tab abd choose from the NSEW compass thing to get to your menus? Why not " I" for items and "P" for powers/magic. As soon as I learned them I abandoned the tab button to get into menus.

I watched the entire Todd Howard DICE presentation (the one about why we create games) and he actually talks quite a bit about the perk constellations and their evolution. It's literally supposed to represent your character looking up at the heavens. They showed several iterations of the menu, with different spinning effects and constellations etc. Worth watching.

It was worth watching, and it was interesting to see it's evolution. That does not, however, make it a good menu.

I liked it, I just wish you weren't required (required no less!) to waste dozens of perks to access the ones actually worth using. They could have done it more like Fallout (minus its skill points and forcing you to pick a perk this second) where you had a minimum level required to get the perk and a minimum level in that skill.

Yes officer

I really hope for their last dlc they will improve skyrims UI.
By saying 'spreadsheety', Todd was referring to the way Oblivion's spellmaking worked, not the UI.

Yes. Because the Tab key is closer to ASDW. And it's pretty confortable once you get used to it.
Only exception is that I use M for the map.

Thing is, I also have the game on PC as well as X-Box 360, and none of these issues exist on my PC version either.

Except perhaps 4, sometimes.

I guess I just don't see what the problem is with Skyrim's default menu. Yes, I would love for it to be more exact with the mouse pointer, but other than that, I don't find it difficult at all to navigate around.

Same.

Only version I haven't played is the PS3, but on both the X-Box 360 and PC I find the menus and UI to be very slick, efficient, easy to navigate, and have no trouble at all. It is one of my favorite UI's in any game I've played.

Upset that not everyone experiences the same problems, or has the same complaints than you do?

Even if you like the UI, why anyone would play this game on PC without SkyUI is beyond me. It's just so much more intuitive, only reason I'm not using right now is because SKSE hasn't updated to a 1.6 version (that I'm aware of... haven't been keeping up with it).

Why would I download a mod for something that 1.) I don't have any issue with in the vanilla game and 2.) from what I've seen via YouTube videos, screenshots, etc... isn't any kind of improvement in my own subjective opinion than vanilla?

If people prefer SkyUI, that's great, but I have no desire to download a UI overhaul when I like the vanilla UI.

Oblivion on the other hand? I don't play Oblivion on PC without Darnified.

Each to his own. I find Oblivion's default UI far more tolerable than Skyrim's (although it isn't good, either).

I find both to be beautifully designed... What's the problem with Oblivion's UI?

Too much clicking to get anywhere, font is too large, etc. etc. etc. I always forgot what the icons mean and it takes me a while to find the right menu.
