DLC Exclusive. Discussion Still Going

Post » Sat Jan 08, 2011 1:33 am

My only solution is to bleed my wallet dry and buy a separate 360 version if I value the ltd edition items and still want to take advantage of this. Waiting this long essentially makes it a bait-and-switch.

Or, you could wait for further announcements and see what the DLC actually is, and what else happens before chistmas.

Well I for one was going to think twice about buying the DLC anyway. The only one I really found worth the money in FO3 was Point Lookout and to a lesser extent Broken Steel (mainly for the level-cap/perk increase). But since this shenanigan I'm really mad. I'm sorry Microsoft, but I can find better ways to spend my $10 than buying a DLC that 360 owners have had for a month already. I'm not even sure of the marketing strategy here. They certainly aren't going to get a big preorder boost for the 360 by announcing this less than 24 hours before the game is released. Moreover, they're just pissing off most of the dedicated fanbase who read forums like this before the game is released and the bug complaints haven't rolled in yet. Even normal 360 owners can see the plight of the rest of us who don't get the game on a normal schedule. In fact, the only people who are happy are the die-hard 360 [censored] which would have bought everything for their xbox anyway.

Can someone explain the thought process behind this? (if there is one.)

BTW I'm a PC owner just for the record.

i'ts almost gauranteed to be a timed exclusive only. common sense.

Agreed, some people don't seem to get this. The ones that do "get it", are worried about their DLC being inferior.

I am having seconds thoughts about buying New Vegas. If it doesn't get a 9/10 rating or if it runs like crap on the PS3; I am wasting my money on something else. Probably Mass Effect 2, Black Ops or maybe a PS3 exclusive. That'll be a nice kick in the balls to M$.

Biowares writing is mediocre now as well. Nothing special about DAO or ME2, hell you could even argue that all of Bio's games have the same overall story arc. Plus you don't have Beth double dipping and nickel and diming you like Bio/EA.

I am not sure why you keep dragging Bioware specifically into this, but I'd say both DAO and ME2 have far superior writing to Oblivion or FO3. I don't care for their overall plot (ME1 in particular was far better than ME2 in that respect) but the dialogue and characterization is very clearly superior. On the other hand Obsidian crushes all of them in this respect.

As far as getting "nickel and dimed", FO3 had $50 of available DLC. I don't see how that is very different from the other two games you're bringing up.

It almost sounds like this DLC is some sort of central component on a new drug - that is now being implemented only to inhalers version, while injectons and pills are left without.

What a mess. Endless amounts of people raging for no good reason on the forums now. I feel sorry for the moderators having to deal with all this.

And until we get more information I don't think there's much to be said that hasn't been said already. But I guess we need at least one central venting thread...

I'm sure that once that information is there, things won't be as bad as people are making it out to be. Don't cancel your pre-orders folks. ;)

Why do I feel like I have been shot twice in the head and left in a shallow grave? I wasn't upset about the 360 exclusive for Fallout 3, but I knew about that months in advance of FO3 release. This is messed up. Just had to register to let you know that. I had followed this closely and was thinking just this morning. This is going to be so great. I paid off my collectors addition this morning on the way to work. I get to work and what do I see???? A post on Joystiq 360 Fallout NV dlc exclusive. This is not right? We should have known about that a long time ago right? I prefer to play on my PS3 and all I have read told me this would not be an issue this time. If you had treated your customers right you would have let us know this a long time ago. Thinking about trying to get my money back on this one.

Because Bioware is the only other big RPG maker out there. Again look at the amount of content. With all of ME2 and DOA DLCs, you still don't get as much game play as a vanilla Beth RPG. Saying who had better writing is opinionated.

I'm not suggesting Microsoft is bullying, what I'm suggesting is money is changing hands and a platform is being pushed to the front of the content queue, despite the publisher being committed to launching the same title across all platforms. The fault isn't with Microsoft for pushing cash onto the publisher (it's to be expected of them, they hardly have a reputation to defend, they just throw money at every error they make until it goes away, forever cleaning up after their hasty endeavors) the fault is with the publisher for accepting and putting a certain platform first.

I don't see how Microsoft's reputation has anything to do with this, or what errors you think they're throwing money at. Probably because trying to make your product support every random 3rd-party standard under the sun is so easy, eh? It must be...that's why everyone is doing it. :P

Anyway, do you seriously think that Sony wouldn't do exactly the same thing? Do you seriously think that any company wouldn't do the same thing? Bethesda is making the decisions on how to create and release their DLC. They are the only ones it makes any sense to blame if you're going to insist on being mad at somebody. I mean, how do you suppose Bethesda got the rights to the Fallout IP to begin with? Hint: it involves being willing to spend more money than the competition. :whisper: If you offer something for sale that somebody wants they're likely to buy it if the price is right. Put it up for auction and the high bidder wins.

Ok, now I'm way off-topic. Do I believe that it would be a show of good faith for Bethesda to treat all platforms equally? Yes. Do I expect any for-profit company to do that? Nope.

Just a thought for those who are up in arms.Months ago when the questions where asked about DLC the answer was "we have plans".So where in that do you get the idea that any console deserves the DLC.Their plans could of been to do no DLC what so ever. You have not done anything to deserve DLC and neither have 360 players. All you have done for Bethesda and Obsidian is by the vanilla version of the game and you are getting all you deserve.

It just the way the cookie crumbles.

You are part of the reason WHY dlc continues in such a crappy form that it does today. Part of the argument here is not that we "deserve" to have DLC, but the fact that this particular DLC will probably end up being a cash-in BS excuse of a DLC just like most of them that flood the market. Instead of giving us what we DO, in fact, deserve which is a full version of the game we paid 60+ dollars for in the first place, we pay 60 dollars and get about 2/3 of the game and get to unlock all the fun stuff by paying extra, when they could have just released the game 2 months later with all the "extra" stuff put into the game to begin with. Don't believe most price tags out there today folks, games are starting to cost between 80-100 dollars with all the DLC that keeps coming out for them, yet people seem to just keep lapping them up.

Stop buying BS DLC and maybe they will eventually get the hint and give us the full game when we pay full price.

As for the exclusive DLC stuff, who knows what I'll end up doing. I've been looking forward to this game for a while now and have had a reserve for 3 months. I might not even go out and get it anymore and just put my 5 dollar reserve on a game from a company that ISN'T trying to nickle and dime me, or should I say 5 dollar and 10 dollar me, dry.

Harmonix PR Manager John Drake has revealed that a PSN-exclusive Rock Band PS3 DLC sale begins next week.

PS3 owners will be happy to see that they have put another feather in their cap, to join previous announcements of a Medal of Honor: Frontline PS3-exclusive remake and Dead Space: Extraction PS3 with Dead Space 2: Limited Edition, by revealing some Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood exclusives for PS3.

Mafia II isn't out for another month or so, but that's not stopping 2K Games from talking about DLC. Depending on your platform of choice, the next tidbit will either make you collapse to the floor in a happily sobbing mess or clench your jaw in pure fury.* The first of the two announced DLC packs will be available exclusively to the PS3 shortly after launch, and it won't cost players one thin dime.

all just for PS3 and this is only a few games

so stop complaining... and grow up

CANCEL MY PRE-ORDER?!?!?!

You would have to be out of your mind to do that!

I'm only worried about bugs and glitches and no patches for them.

All i really want is support for the game instead of being deserted!

I wouldn't even care about the wait for DLC is it wasn't for the spoilers. I don't like knowing what happens before I play something. And no, there is no way I'll stop using this forum, other gaming forums, The Vault, etc for 6 months.

Try as you might, you'll get spoiled if you're wating for too long unless you stop browsing some of your favorite websites.
