If memory serves, the translators of the King James version did not try to render into everyday language, which accounts for some of the "clunkiness" that people experience with the KJV. I rather like it, but I'm strange (hey, I play video games, q.e.d.)
I think the issue with King James Version is the "Kings James only" movement that can be a bit nuts, it is after all a 400 year old book so its not going to render very well into the everyday English of the 21st century even if it did back then.
The rest ... its a translation into English, choices were made and its largely a non-issue since the Bible is not considered to contain the exact words of God, I only pointed out the King James Version because its what Book of Mormon used.
Anyway that is why the use of Greek when comes to Bible references is understandable since those Greek texts are the basis of the Bible and so using the original text in the original language is closer to the origin as one can get.
Edit:
As for Colonel Martyr's question ...
