Don't make Super Mutants dumb..

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:27 pm

I mean seriously, man in Fallout 3 all the super mutants were incredibly stupid.. In fallout 1 they were at least superior in terms of intellect.

Take http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y97_Wz4fAtA&feature=related for example..

For some reason he gave me the chills when I first encountered him abruptly during my first playthrough in the game.

The DC Super Mutants were technically a different breed or mutated differently than the Mariposa variety. Not to mention...The majority of Mariposa mutants from Fallout 1 were dumb as bricks with the exception of a few gems who found their way into leadership positions like Lou.

Different coasts, different strains of FEV. And Lieutenant was a special case anyway.

It's already been confirmed dozens of times that the West Coast mutants stay the same non-orcish way they were before. When being transformed from someone untainted, that is, just like before.

Good point, however it would have been nice to see a wider variety in super mutants, excluding behemoths. Lou was different from the rest of course, but it just felt like a character like him was missing in Fo3...

I honestly just hope they don't have to scream everything... got kinna annoying in Fo3. Every mutant had to scream. While in Fo1-2 they could calmly have a... conversation.

Although, to build on your request. It would be nice to try and talk to Super Mutants, Mutants in the old Fallouts were less hostile to you than the Super Mutants in Fallout 3

The Super Mutants in FO3 lacked purpose all around. They were "looking for something", everyone said, but they never explained what. I assumed more FEV. I kept thinking they'd do a DLC on that, but they never did.
Who knows. You got that whole State of Ultolbithia or whatever it is, so maybe we'll see some interesting Super Mutant politics or whatnot.

Lou is badass. As for the Super Mutants in Fallout 3, I will miss their knock-knock jokes!

The majority of Super Mutants were very dumb in Fallout 1 / 2, though there were a few exceptions. Fallout 3 was the same way, just there were less exceptions.

Sometimes I found the super mutants in F3 having conversations... pretty funny actually. And although there were sometimes dumb, it was funny when they were looking for you!

The average super mutant will still be dumb, but with a new voice, obviously. So far, it looks like Neil and (of course) Marcus are the only confirmed super mutants that aren't schizophrenic or stupid. I hope for a couple more though. I expect to see plenty in Jacobstown, but not as many in State of Ultolbithia.

Well you can consider Fawkes and Uncle Lou pretty intelligent as they can speak properly and at least have some intelligence.

Not in comparison to Marcus or the others in Broken Hills

Well Uncle Lou maybe. Fawkes didn't really strike me as all that smart

There are going to be both dumb and intelligent Super Mutants. Pretty much everyone has been infected with the airborne FEV by now which makes Super Mutants stupid. Apparently there is going to be conflict between the old smart Super mutants and the new insane and stupid ones.

I'd say that Fawkes is smarter by virtue of having nothing better to do for 200 years of imprisonment than to educate himself. He certainly sounded very intelligent, more than most wastelanders, he just didn't get a chance to shine intellectually.

And I think that most people have forgotten WHY the East Coast super mutants are, essentially, Orks. They were DESIGNED that way and if you read the terminal entries in Vault-88 you'll notice that the scientists were using the vaults residents as test subjects to create living weapons; meant to be dropped behind enemy lines and create chaos. So it's not much a long shot that the reason they're so dumb is because they were engineered that way, especially since its painful for them to form complex thoughts.

I found Fawkes to be about as dumb as a brick, personally. He always ended up getting me killed because it seems all East Coast mutants run on:

See enemy --> attack enemy

God I hope Marcus is smart enough to not attack things crazily more powerful than he is on sight. Fawkes did that to me three times, went after Liberty Prime for no reason and got himself pwned.

The average super mutant will still be dumb, but with a new voice, obviously. Tabitha probably won't be terribly stupid. Insane, sure. Schizo? You bet. But I doubt it'd be that stupid if it could organize the mutants on that mountain.

Also, there's a clear line in the Mariposa mutants. Gen 1 = generally smarter than the landscape. Gen 2 = dumber than the landscape.

I want too see some super mutant NCR rangers, maybe even some with power armor. They could be called "power rangers" or something.

@Topic- I'd like to see a Broken Hills scenario, All things in harmony. Hopefully no sinister plots around this time in that town :cryvaultboy:

Interesting. I didn't really delve into the Fallout 3 lore as much as I did the Fallout 1 and 2 lore. I just didn't like it as much.

That is a pretty cool idea though. I remember seeing the first picture of an Orc wielding a hammer and being surprised when it was called Fallout 3...but the whole engineered to be dumb thing makes a definite kind of sense. It's pretty bloody heartless too. Right up my alley.

I really hope Marcus will join up with us.....or perhaps we will join up with him.

God, I can't wait to get into those dialogue trees. I can't wait to experience Fallout Dialogue Trees again period.
