Dragon Age apparently getting Multiplayer

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 9:52 am

Nah, with the launch of the big MMO they will last longer.

Haha right, you mean the MMO they have just thrown money at, it will tank trying to compete with WoW. Bioware have done everything possible to fail, ruin existing IP, alienate long term fans, put all their eggs in 1 basket. Seriously they killed DA, ME3 will be horrible from the script I have read, and they will NEVER break even with the MMO.

Should have tried the Beta. I think they stand a chance.

Dragon Age begins and ends with Origins for me.

At least with Origins we got three years of enjoyable DLC. Right? Right...?

Well we got Awakening, anyway (not counting the few bite-sized portions along the way) which I did actually enjoy, except that the bugs would put even Bethesda to shame.

Awakening had some fun parts and neat ideas going for it. But it wasn't worth the $40 it had going at release, and more importantly, the story was a complete mess, with an abrupt ending that didn't really explaining anything. Hence why I've chosen to disregard it.

As the series stands I feel like it could support Multiplayer. I often found myself in massive spaces that were completely empty. I feel like this void could be filled with people.

I also feel like it has the appeal and abundance in items to make a fairly decent MMO game, but it isn't something i'd look forward to.

Not surprised, I'll reserve judgement until I get my hands on it. Although I am not very happy about it.

BioWare: Biodrones, we are now requiring Origin for all of our games!
Fans: But Origin spies on our computer data!
BioWare: WE HAVE ALTERED THE GAMES, PRAY WE DO NOT ALTER THEM FURTHER...
Fans: Darn it! This game is getting worse and worse!
BioWare: OUR GAMES NOW ALL HAVE MULTIPLAYER, WE HAVE ALTERED THE GAMES, PRAY WE DO NOT ALTER THEM FURTHER...

They're adding in a new game mode? WHAT THE [censored] IS WRONG WITH THESE [censored] [censored]S?! Don't they know we want the same game with just new graphics? I can't believe any company would be so dumb as to think new content would interest the fans. Ridiculous. I hope they all lose their jobs and get kicked out of their homes!

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, NWN 1 and 2 have multiplay. Are they alienating the older gamers? Nope. It's the newer gamers who thought they are old school that they are alienating.

JE, KotOR and ME were the only products they didn't include multiplay mode. I don't remember if MDK series has multiplay, but if you are against multiplay, sorry you are a newb to Bioware.

It's safe to say MP is not popular among RPG fans especially in RPG games. Considering Bioware has never done MP before I think it's only fair for fans to be worried.

The real complaint is how much SP will be affected.

Even if single-player is better than DA2 or (gasp) better than DA1, I bet most people will still rage that multiplayer was even included, regardless if it's good or not.

And if the single-player turns out to be crap... well DA2's SP was crap and it didn't have multiplayer so it isn't like developing multiplayer modes would be the cause of bad SP.

Yes, a fantasy-based MMO. Haven't seen a lot of those.

Should be noted that the only game in Bioware's library where multiplayer played a big role was Neverwinter Nights. And truth be told, that product was all about the modding tools; the campaign that came with it was more of a demo of what they could do. In Baldur's Gate, the multiplayer was nowhere near in depth, and was treated as more of a novelty to fool around and not what any notable part of the game was ever designed around.

Multiplayer is really popular in older RPGs. The problem is that they don't make multiplayer games like that anymore, everything is either PvP or a full-blown MMO.

Maybe it could be fun?

Then again the cup is half-full from where I'm sitting. I am actually looking forward to ME3's multiplayer.

My mistake, Bioware hasn't done a ton of multiplayer.

Which was my point. I feel like they are throwing it in their games for all the wrong reasons. Again though I will hold my full judgment until I play it.

And you know what? Before WoW came out, NWN was the world multiplay online community second to Diablo 2. Bioware knows how to make multiplayer games, they've been doing this since Shattered Steel. The general hate towards multiplay option is incoherent, seeing the magnitude they had accomplished in the past. BG had huge multiplay community, back then it was the standing stone for IWD. Truth be told, NWN had HUNDREDS of dedicated worlds and thousands of players online in these dedicated world at the same time, unaccounting modules for LAN gameplay, it was a legend known in world wide multiplay community.

This is why I love Bethesda. :tes:

After playing DA2, I had no intention of getting DA3 unless things were taken back to the way DAO was done. Clearly that isn't going to happen.

So ME3 just might be the last Bioware game I ever purchase. Even that is still up in the air right now though...

According to people who have played the ME3 MP, no, no they dont.

Besides DA multiplayer would just be mashing the awesome button until an enemy dies. Because DA is now a hack n slash.

I really liked the first DA. I didn't even bother with second having learned that you were forced to play one character. Why BioWare? WHYYYYYYY!?
