To quote from the previous thread:

And I can't go without mentioning my approval for the main focus being man vs. man as opposed to man vs. beast, since I find the former much more interesting. The whole game was quite a nice gray area for the most part, and a lot of debate could be held on who was right in their actions, the Templars or the Mages.

Unfortunately that is partially spoiled by
Spoiler
Meredith's sword forged from lyrium idol found at the thaig at the end of Act 1
, as it causes there to be more to the conflict than just the people. Indeed just before the [censored] hits the fan
Spoiler
Meredith does show regert in how she is treating the mages, if the sword had not been involved, perhaps there could've been a peaceful solution?
Still, as player choices do not affect the major events of DA2 it's pretty obvious that DA2's point was to serve as a setup for the war that will most likely play the major role in the next DA game.

Orsino helped
Spoiler
the man who killed your mother
by supplying him only so he could learn more about blood magic, so Meredith was partially correct but in reality Varric was the cause of the entire plot.

Actually if it wasn't for Flemeth there would be no plot and Bartand/Varric would never have found the idol if it wasn't for Hawke

Will I get in trouble for saying I don't really like this game? I'm not here to bash, just trying to learn.

I found UE on sale a couple months ago and finally installed it over the weekend- and wasn't that a major pain. Is the entire game just cut scenes alternating with RT periods of following the script? All I knew about the game going in was that it was 3rd person, which I really don't like, but I figured I try it, anyway.

The last game I played is/was Oblivion, so I really svck at the controls for this. Practice will help with that, but I can't play for more than an hour without getting sick from the camera motion. I can't figure out what I'm doing from above, so I have to play over-the-shoulder.

Is the entire game scripted, or will I have some freedom as I go along? I'm assuming each time I answer questions it adjusts the story a little. Has anyone put out a good wiki on this? Any suggestions on how to approach this game?

which class did you choose for your first playthrough?

here are a couple of good resources:

I went with a pretty generic warrior. From what I saw during character creation, it looks like it gives you a different story for each class.

I'll check the links. Thanks.

If Varric never helped Hawke with the thief, he wouldn't have even gone into the deep roads where they found the idol which set in play the entire plot. Flemeth only saved him and asked for an amulet, she is the one who set the domino's but Varric was the one who pushed them.

EDIT: Warrior and Rogue share the same story, while the Mage has a different one.

With the game so tightly scripted, it looks like all these different character builds makes it closer to RTS (AoE) rather than RPG. I guess I better study all the skill trees.

If you prefer a more deliberate, tactical pace to the combat, you can play by controllilng all the characters and turning all tactics off.

Personally, I enjoy this type of gameplay experience much more. (constant pausing and micromanaging) The playthrough ends up lasting much longer as well (150+ hours for my first playthrough)

That is essential for Nightmare difficulty because of Friendly Fire.

Surprisingly, I've seen a number of amazing Nightmare youtube tutorials where very skilled players wreak havoc on boss battles without pausing.

I'm certainly not able to do that, but some are. Generally they put a lot of thought into planning the best tactics options to avoid friendly fire while still setting up cross class combos. (I prefer to control all the party members.)

Sorry to keep interupting all the game content posts with the new player stuff. I'm still working on the game mechanics (on Easy).

With all the activation required, how big a hassle is it to move the game to another computer? I want to put it on the http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7124324&SRCCODE=WEBLET03ORDER&cm_mmc=Email-_-WebletMain-_-WEBLET03ORDER-_-Deals. The system I'm playing it on now is an i7-950@3.8, 8GB DDR3, GTS 450, on W7 64-bit (one of my folding machines). The laptop should be about an even swap (slower cpu, better gpu, same ram and OS).

If it is a Steam or EADM installation, should be no problem. (your save game files are stored in My Documents/Bioware/...something../Characters) You will have to download the Black Emporium again on the new machine.

I'm not sure how it works if you have the boxed version.

It it works like they did with DA:O on BSN validations and all that jazz should happen automatically for your DLC so you just have to install log in and redownload the content and if you have saves move the mover to the right spot. then all should be good.

I just finished the game a few days ago, I thought it was pretty sick to be honest... worth the playthrough. My only complaints is the combat frequency (really, a street gang has 20 members to throw at you every 2 minutes?) and recycled areas.

Given that The Witcher 2 will allow save imports from Witcher 1 to continue the story, I am re-playing Witcher 1 in expectation of Witcher 2
.
I have not played DA2 ( and I never will) but I played DA:0, and now that I am playing Witcher again, I am just realizing how much of Witcher is in DA:O, with the Witcher actually looking better and playing better than DA:O, two years earlier.

There were bound to be some similarities, since Witcher used the Bioware engine, but to me, DA:O now almost seems like a rip-off of The Witcher
