Dragons picking up enemies - Where is this feature?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 1:43 am

I saw this happen during the very first dragon attack.. In fact, I took damage from running beneath the falling guard, trying to catch him.

Seen it... Pretty impressive to watch because you can almost hear the victim swearing as they are thrown high into the sky

That game that Todd Howard played, was "MODDED" before

just think about it, you can whirmill sprint before complete the MQ from Farengar (SPOILER) Retrieve the Dragonstone

Did you remember? Tod Howard used the Shout (Whirmill) at that dungeon, before get the unrelenting force shout

so.. that double dragon appeared after the giant, was something modded i think.

In That Case, i never see dragon pick up anything at my skyrim
And the 999 HP

OH I KNOW!!!

I know the problem

The dragon can do that thing, only if the target has a specific amount of HP

Example: 90 HP

So, the dragon only pick up guard if the guard have a 90 HP

The problem is, dragon attack are so big

every time we level up, the attack goes up, and so does the Guard *Radiant AI*

IF..

Guard HP: 500
Accient Dragon attack: 300

1 attack to the guard, HP left: 200
2 attack to the guard, Dead

so to make a dragon pick up the guard, after the first attack the guard must wait until his HP regen to 390 and get attack 1 more time,so after that, the dragon could do the pickk up thing

For a better result, on that video, the dragon was pick up a GIANT, who have a huge amount HP

For you who wanna try this thing

Find a Giant, Kick his *ss, and call Ohdaviing

Pray for luck, to make the giant fly away

In my game dragons seem to enjoy Mammoth Juggling. It's a little hard to see, buthttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/Lerf1950/Skyrim/2011-12-28_00003.jpg the only shot I was quick enough to get last time it happened.

I have seen it too.. although rare. But, between two level 50+ characters in three months I had only recently seen a random dragon attack inside a walled city (markarth, solitude), so rare is what it is.

If my memory serves me correctly I think I've died to a dragon grab attack once, myself, but I could be thinking of my more numerous giant death stunts. Without a doubt, I've been chomped and tossed more times than I care to count.

Didn't see it for ages, then an ancient dragon does it twice. Two guards, off the bridge outside Windhelm, plucked and dumped.

I haven't seen a dragon swoop down and pick up a giant right in front of me but I thought I saw it happen off in the distance when the dragon was harassing the giants at some giant camp out in the tundra but not near Whiterun. I didn't get too close because the mammoths and giants are so twitchy though. I haven't been grabbed and shaken like chew toy in a while. I got better at not getting too close to the mouth.

One thing I saw that was new to me was a Frost dragon lobbing ice storm bombs at me and chasing me all around walking on the ground in my no-kill game. It was injured and couldn't fly so it chased me on foot and I mean ALL over for a long time. Then it got stronger and flew again and the guards near Whiterun finished it off. :tes:

It is rare, but it does happen. It is a Melee Finishing Move for a Dragon. Melee finishing moves can only come when the health is low enough that the attack will kill the NPC or your character. Since most dragon attacks on NPCs are with Shouts either from the sky or on the ground, it is rare for the conditions to be met.

I have had the dragon throw me across a field once and I have seen a couple NPCs get tossed around.

It happened again in my game(I posted yesterday). This is a new character and as random fate would have it, I'm getting lots of dragons in this play through, which of course means I'm more likely to see this.

When fighting a dragon that was attacking a giant just to the north of Whiterun, the dragon snatched the giant into the air just like in the promo vids.

I suppose on reflection, this must work like the normal finishing moves the player gets. It's probably rare because usually when battles with dragons are going on, the dragon is on the ground by the time creatures like giants are on low health, so the only finishing move the dragon would have then is the biting one you see far more often. What was different last night was the dragon didn't land which meant the giant had no chance to injure the dragon. Dragon in full health, giant on low = dragon throwing victim into the air finishing move.

There was a poor guard outside Winterhold who was snatched up and dropped from a great height.

Others have been gobbled.

My current character has been gobbled twice.

Being gobbled is annoying.

I've seen one dragon picking up my character - it was not pretty - blood all over, learning to fly without permit, crappy landing face first, etc.

But I haven't seen a dragon pick anything else up - read about it on this forum, though.

Dragon picked me up and dropped me from a great height yesterday. Killed me instantly, it was great.

Before this happened, i thought this feature didnt make it into the game

I started a new game recently and the dragon at helgen will do it to guards on the walls, it was so cool to see because ive never seen another dragon do it in my main 250hour save. Maybee you need to have a dragon attack in an area with guards on towers and city walls and thats rare.

I think i noticed a dragon picking up a cow in riverwood.. but i might not be remembering it right.

(update) i visited riverwood on my main save and the cow is missing so maybee i was right ^^

I have a couple of screenshots of where I made a dragon crash land and it dropped a cow (had a cow) underneath it after I killed it. And another time after one came to a screeching halt there was an adventurer under it as well.

Seen it happen within the first ten minutes of Helgen. I think its scripted actually because it always happens, its just kinda off to the side.

Right before you go into Helgen Keep, Alduin picks up a guard and throws him. Very very very high.

Seen it happen a few other random times as well. You just have to watch out for it.

It's rare, but it happens. I even had a dragon swoop, pick me up then toss me during my insane playthrough as a thief while I was pelting him with arrows atop a watchtower. I was at full health.

Have not seen it in my game so far and have fought maybe 6+ dragons. But it must happen because when I loot some dragons I find armor pieces, I assume, from the NPCs it ate.
O________________O

6. six. that's like...two hours worth of play. i'd guess that the average person puts a minimum of 100-150 hours into skyrim. that's a completely irrelevantly low amount of encounters to weigh in on the question with.

i've got about 250hs in, and i see it happen occasionally. quite rarely really, but it requires open space for the dragon to swoop down on, and NPC's fighting the dragon as well. in almost all of my gameplay, i fight dragons alone and so that would be why i haven't experienced it much.

*edit* poster above me has been picked up themselves, so it's not limited to npcs like i thought it was. very cool.

I think that developers make these test characters with the console. This is why so many things are a surprise for them when the game goes live. I bet many testers start out with characters of x level with x equipment all given them by console commands

In Helgen, right after you get the choice to join Hadvar or Rolof, look at the dragon. Its scripted to swoop down, pick up an archer, and hurl him into the air at a thousand miles per hour. Tahts the only instance I've seen it scripted. Besides that, I've seen someone be picked up two times.

Happened to my char... unfortunately I didn't get to see it. Tara was standing on a bridge ( one of my favorite things to "veiw" from) and I got up to turn off the oven buzzer, Missed the pause. My Husband started yelling at me about which was the pause button "B" ..."B".. why? Dragons attacking you... He hit pause but poor old Tara was already mid flight. X-box needs a rewind button...lol

Only time I got to "see" dragon picking someone up was at Helgen.

I've killed over 75 dragons and I only see it happen on the very few encounters I have with dragons in towns. Dragons are everywhere in my game. It gets kinda lame after you've killed as many as I have. I still kill them even though I'd rather run then chase them around and get thr kill. Also I've only had about 5 finishing moved happen on the dragons.
