Dragons picking up enemies - Where is this feature?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:59 am

I'm sure we all saw the videos of Todd Howard playing through the demo of Skyrim on the Xbox 360. In the video, a dragon picks up a giant in the tundra while Todd is fighting it and drops the giant from quite a height in the air. I for one have never seen any dragon pick up anyone or anything and drop them. So was the feature just showboating? This topic may be locked for posing this question, but: Is this false advertising? I'm simply making an observation on a feature that was displayed to the world and not delivered. Granted, I do enjoy this game very much and is by far my favorite RPG out there, I am just disappointed that the 'dragon picks up its foes and drops them from the sky' was shown and exculded from the game. Were there issues with this feature? Did it cause too many issues? Whatever the case my be, I feel that the feature should not have been shown in the video since we don't get to have it.

Here is a link to the video I speak of. Skip to 12:00 to see the feature.

its rare but it does happen, its scripted to happen once in a certain part of the main quest as well. I've had it happen once or twice outside of that.

Have not seen it in my game so far and have fought maybe 6+ dragons. But it must happen because when I loot some dragons I find armor pieces, I assume, from the NPCs it ate.

I have yet to see it, but I have not yet completed the storyline yet. I will take in your information as truth. I didn't think that you'd have to get to a certain point in the story to activate the feature. So is there a certain point in the story where dragons attack in towns? I've heard about it, but it's never happened to me.

I started a new game recently and the dragon at helgen will do it to guards on the walls, it was so cool to see because ive never seen another dragon do it in my main 250hour save. Maybee you need to have a dragon attack in an area with guards on towers and city walls and thats rare.

I think i noticed a dragon picking up a cow in riverwood.. but i might not be remembering it right.

(update) i visited riverwood on my main save and the cow is missing so maybee i was right ^^

That game that Todd Howard played, was "MODDED" before

just think about it, you can whirmill sprint before complete the MQ from Farengar (SPOILER) Retrieve the Dragonstone

Did you remember? Tod Howard used the Shout (Whirmill) at that dungeon, before get the unrelenting force shout

so.. that double dragon appeared after the giant, was something modded i think.

In That Case, i never see dragon pick up anything at my skyrim

You don't have to reach a certain point in the story for it to activate, it just is scripted to happen for sure in one specific intance.

The reason it doesn't happen much is similar to why you don't always get finishing moves.

I've seen it once or twice.

Most recently was during a Dragon attack outside Solitude. The Dragon swooped down during the fight and grabbed a guard. Found him down by the docks. Deaded.

It may be like the 'Dragon crashing' event. The Dragons target needs to be below a certain amount of health for it to occur?

Seen Dragons on the ground pick up creatures and NPCs and toss them away quite a lot though.

It happens, but it's rare. A non-scripted dragon outside the main quest in the wild will only do it if certain conditions are met.

I've seen it happen a few times. I've even been chewed on by a dragon myself once.

That's actually a feature?

300+ hours
20-30 dead dragons
sure ive seen the 'finishing move' bite, where a player or npc gets munched and swung about abit then spat out...
But I have not seen that!
there again it seems I STILL find new things happen that I haven't seen before... like a travelling farmer actually get jumped on and dragged a little by a spider (that was creepy o.O,, roughly at the 200hour mark) so I was freaked and stoked at the same time...

Now due to this at around that 200 hour mark I began to manually travel everywhere, horse riding when over-encumbered too. I have seen alot of wierd things since I've started doing that... it does make me wonder though... I LOVE the way its always new... but I hate feeling like I've missed lots and starting new characters...

In a few years time I'l say something different but for now... i'l keep an eye for that one.. maybe il entice it..?

EDIT:- Just remembered I have only ever once seen the dragon crashing event (I think that's due to a dragon being brought to critical health while airborne) so perhaps the conditions are specific and if you fight them the same way every time, you may have the same conclusion...

My sword n shield character uses shouts to bring dragons to the ground to fight but never really see much other than biting and torching. though without a shield I have seen some different finishing moves by my character... pure variable genius ^-^

HOWEVER

My Archer made the dragon crash and skid across the ground in a plumb of smoke (Jaw dropped - wow)

= note to self = vary playstyle, vary results (dramatically it seems)

The problem is the situation and circumstances need to be quite precise for it to happen so we don`t see something silly happen and so it all looks smooth.

That`s my guess why only a few have seen it.

your more likely to see a patch that doesnt break the game than see that dynamically
actually its probably the other way around :)

It hasn't happened on my latest 150 hour character... but I am 1-2 quests behind a character where it happens quite often... riverwood was a dragon graveyard for a long while and I seem to have a dragon bone statue on the Gildergreen in whiterun =/

Judging by the tests im running on my mage guy aswell it seems there are alot of variables... I think that the specifics are... quite frankly... VERY specific (but that adds to the re-playability I suppose)
I could whine and say I haven't seen this or that, but I'd rather have not seen something, than have seen everything =]

They've done it to my character so many times... Happens usually when your character has about a quarter health left.

I've seen it twice.
Helgen, and during the MQ.

I've fought like 30+ Dragons in total and never seen it in the wild.

Just last night, I was in Rorickstead when a dragon attacked. He picked up one of the cows and threw it so far south I never saw it again.

It happened to me last night. And I mean, TO ME! I was picked up, chewed up, and my dead body was flung away.

Definitely happens (to myself more than I like -.-). I also had dragons pick up NPCs joining the fight. I never came far with the mainquest so far.
Spoiler
Only kill the Dragon near Windhelm
so that has nothing to do with it.

The only time I've seen it so far is at the very beginning of the game where someone gets picked up off a wall, but it's clearly scripted. I've fought tons of dragons and haven't seen it yet, I was pretty sure it was a scripted sequence.

I THINK I have seen it, I saw a Giant falling from a dragon, but things stick to dragons occasionally, so im not sure. I have seen a mammoth launch another mammoth into the air before though, haha
