Ebony Warrior: More than just a fight?

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 12:07 pm

Not sure what to tell you. I was expecting a tough fight but I dropped him in one hit with no enchanted gear or weapons. I'm wearing a mourners outfit and hat, vampire boots and simple gloves I bought in Solitude. None of it is enchanted and just normal dragon daggers I smithed. No enchants.

Maybe I just got lucky but the guy dropped with one backstab.
Hopefully you can go back again and give yourself a real challenge. Not that people are upset that you are downplaying him, but rather, if you're looking for a challenging fight, the Ebony Warrior IS that fight.

Provided, of course, that you allow yourself to be challenged :) We'd just hate to see you miss out.

He is your clone.

You are actually from a product line of mass produced freak-shows that specialize in killing dragons and saving the world.

I was thinking he's the Dragonborn from a maybe-future born of tampering with the Elder Scrolls.

He was just standing there so I downed him with a single arrow sneak attack after poisoning the arrow and drinking fortify marksman potion.

Normal difficulty and just dragon daggers, not enchanted.

Fight started and I went invisible, went behind him and stabbed. One shot and he was dead.
He's probably challenging if you play on a higher difficulty and didn't turn invisible.

My personal take on the Ebony Warrior: An Easter Egg
He's a respectful nod to one of the hardest and most discussed fights in Morrowind: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tribunal:Gaenor

He's a seasoned warrior just like you (if you get to that high a level to meet him) kind of reminds me of that random encounter with an 'old Orc' who wants to die in battle. I haven't met the Ebony warrior yet and I'm not sure I want to spam levels just to meet him before my time.
How high of a level do you have to get to? I just reached 55 today.

I have an op sword with a hit value including enchantments of over 200, i sneaked invisible and hidden behind him hit him with a 6 times sneak attack and was hit with almost a reflective rebound shot which killed me outright and i have maxed armour. Ok that was at master level but that was one weird thing -happened several times that way in close combat-soon as i hit him i was killed and that was without him using his shouts or drain shouts,,,,,,,,,,so he is easy to kill is he? dont make me laugh you are talking BS it took me a long time to get him with a combo of shouts and ranged high value arrows with Auriels bow, must have been 30 arrows before i got his health right down.

For the reflect damage (and this cannot be confirmed until PC release), you're all forgetting about the 100th level heavy armor perk:

Reflect Blows-

Heavy Armor 100, Matching Set
10% chance to reflect melee damage back to the enemy while wearing all Heavy Armor: head, chest, hands, feet on
He's got a full set of ebony and NPC's can use perks.
(Also note, that Ebony Warrior can disarm while shield bashing)

so from this thread ive learnt that the ebony warrior is actually made how all humaniod enemies in this game should have been in the first place. give them perks that we get and actually give enemies in heavy armour proper damage resistance instead of just give them fixed damage and and boat load of health. Bandit chiefs running around with 2handed warhammers that ignore 80% of DR and have a DR of 70% would then be alot more challenging than what they currently are. Its one of the reason i prefered NV over Fo3 was due to the fact that even with 10 in all specials and 100in all skills and every +damage and + defense perk, Deathclaws could still kill you very quickly and easily if they got the drop on you or ganged up on you.

Edit: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Dragonborn:Ebony_Warrior

from that the only that thing i should be wary of is his 15sec paralyze.

Uh no. If every enemy was like the ebony warrior, you'd be dead. A lot.

I think it would scaled depending on the type of person you're fighting. Like a bandit is going to be a lot easier to fight than a Stormcloak or Imperial.

Actually the Ebony Warrior is not as powerful as everyone claims. Yes he likely is stronger than every other enemy, however there is one thing to pay attention to. One thing that I specifically noticied in youtube videos.

Ebony Warrior has the 10% chance reflect ALL damage perk for heavy armor. What does this mean? If you are using super uber dual weild Legendary Dragonbone swords there is a chance that he will reflect all that damage right on to you. The damage that he actually does himself is likely only slightly more than Draugr Death Overlords(Ebony weapon + crExtraDamage025) perhaps comparable to the Keepers(Dragonbone weapon + crExtraDamage03).

Judging by most comments: "I went in with 1,000 armor rating and 300 damage Dragonbone sword and he still beat me!!!??" Makes perfect sense. They most likely, quite literally killed themselves.

Eexactly..... the amount of perks would be tied to the npc's level. lowly bandits are only lvl 1 thus would stay as they are while chiefs are lvl 20 base and then scale depending on your level would have a minimum of 20 perk points to spend.

Yea he, like most things at 80+, is not a challenge on normal. You gotta try master.

2 Arrows put him down on Master for me with my archer. Bow was at like 235 damage. Isn't a lot at all.

He's by far the hardest enemy in the game, but play your cards right and he can still go down like a chump.

This is true. I've fought him multiple times with multiple characters on varying difficulties. Results are very varied because of his perk.

In fact probably the most satisfying fight between him and I ended in a very Honorable tie. I have the same perk he does, we both charged towards each other for one last vicious power attack. we both dropped on top of each other...last thing I heard as my game re-loaded the last save was the sound of the quest log completing the mission.

Na, he's still pretty tough without that. He fusrodahs then hits you while you're down, or paralyzes you and hits you while you're down. You wouldn't understand unless youactually fought him. The only people saying he's easy are those playing on adept, or those with uber weapons, like the guy I quoted fighting with a bow that does 235 damage. No [censored], he wasn't tough for you... Actually ranged combatants probably won't have much of a problem at all. Thats kind of a no [censored] thing too.

Thats...pretty op actually. That is a lot, so I'm gonna have to say no [censored] you didn't have trouble. Oh, that and BS, you put him down in two hits. Unless in sneak mode.

I gotta say, I know that everyone fights differently and all that, and its not your fault that you guys play the way you do, but if you killed the ebony warrior with arrows, conjuration, or anything lower than master, or with op weapons you had to use a potion or enchanting to make, you can't brag about killing him. This is supposed to be an honorable one on one nord styled duel. You don't use frikkin arrows and conjuration in a one on one duel. If you did, good for you, but don't brag about it. It's not impressive.

Close quarters combat. Anything else just isn't impressive enough to share with the class. Just my two cents.

Agreed. Gee, someone snuck up on him and backstabbed for 15-30x damage? No wonder he went down. I will admit though, at one point I did switch up to using a bow on one attempt, still died. When I finally beat him, it was after going toe-to-toe sword and shield, shouting him down with Unrelenting Force to get additional hits in(he was doing the same to me, so it's fair). I didn't have any one-hand weapon damage% items on, just had as much Fortify Health as I could wear.

Calling total BS on this. You were sneaking or had it on a lower difficulty. I was shooting arrows at him from a potion/enchant looped Daedric Bow(with 2 elemental damage enchantments), Dragon bone arrows, 70 dmg poison, 5/5 perks in Archery damage, at least 2 pieces of armor with Archery damage 37%, and his health barely budged. Complete BS.
