Ever been "forced" to go against your characters mor

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:01 am

Oh the joy in killing those haughty Thalmor who think they have the right and might to tell people who they can and cannot worship. On principle alone (as a daedra-worshipper) Veszaun regularly kills them. Your future character, as a Knight of Talos, could make it a righteous crusade!

Yea, I'm looking forward to him. He may not even do much dungeon diving; perhaps he'll be nothing but a servant of the Stormcloaks.

I played a pacifist game. I had to kill the undead boss to start the main quest, but could accept it as he was an abomination of nature. Death would be a release. I could live with that. For the next few weeks, good use of stealth, running and jumping over mobs, calm and fear spells meant my total kills was one. ...

Wow. :stare: I could probably play a pacifist in Oblivion, but I doubt I could pull it off in Skyrim!

Brynjolf's scheme. Brand-Shei is such a nice guy.

Spoiler

You can get around that one. Steal the ring, then drop it somewhere and talk to Brynjolf. You fail the opening quest, but he lets you join the guild anyways saying "I'm not surprised with the way our luck has been lately"

On several occasions I've had to show amazing amounts of restraint in order to get that quest reward off yet another c**t that's living off sheer confidence. Of course once I have what I want from them I proceed to bash their face in. :3

Only when my Battlemage wanted to destroy the Dark Brotherhood. There was some internal debate about the initial thing you have to do, but it needed to be done for the greater good.

While my amoral character is busy working for the Thieves Guild, my fiercely moral character wants to end their corruption and desperately wants a quest to eliminate them. Which does not seem to exist. And key characters are set as essential. So they must go against their morals by allowing this thuggery to go unchecked. Which is a big oversight for anti-thieving characters in the game IMO.

I don't kill innocents with my current, main char, because it's good-sided, so I simply can't.

Anyway, when I'm in a situation like the one you described and feel the need of exterminate someone, then I just save my game, do it, and load back. I don't use to do it a lot, but it happened some times in the 270 hours I've been playing. A guard that asked if I "fetch the mead", the priest that shouts non-stop at Whiterun, a shopper in Solitude that always greets me with "let me drop --everything-- to talk to you" , and a beggar in Markath that told me that next time I should bring "more gold".

Maybe someone more I don't remember, but well.. that's it. Possibly those will end up perma-death when I play with another character more evil-aligned.

If I am Rping a good hearted character, then No. I don't have many problems. There are a few quests I turn down, but most of the forced out of character moments happen when you are trying to RP someone who is just out for themselves.

Yeah, one time. After I knew what was really happening I was in the middle of the Malog Bhal quest. In order to solve the quest I have to commit a murder, and a really brutal one, too.

But since Malog Bhal commanded me to be in a special place in order to follow his bidding, I simply figured...that I wont be there. Like ever. This quest will simply sit in my log forever and Malog Bhal can wait until the end of time. XD

an NPC saying something doesn't constitute as "forced" in my book

If someone in the street insulted you and you punched them for it... when explaining to the law enforcement officers, they would also agree that you were not "forced" into said action

However I believe my characters moral centre was tested when I approached the dark brotherhood... and consequently gave them the finger, when the reasoning behind an assassination was not given... so I thought to myself... I don't kill for personal gain, you guys however should be killed as to avoid giving others the opportunity to be so selfish.

BUMP

human ideals come in all shapes and sizes and some don't get along with others. and some feel they must express it

yet still it doesn't stop me disliking people with this ideal  I've met many people like that while out or at a pub/ club or on a trip/ holiday some I ignored.. some I argued with.. some I had a scrap with,... conclusion... They are still no wiser and remain the same regardless of the victor

I had a goody good Argonian lady at one play-through and met Cicero on the way. It was love on first sight. Then I learned that in order to recruit him as a follower you have to complete the DB questline. I thought about the moral issues for a good hard five seconds then just went berserk on the world for that read headed jester. It was totally worth it.

My thief received a fishing job: Go to the Markath Warrens and steal a silver necklace. I got there and entered the Warrens for the first time. Some of you may know it already, but it is the "beggars row" of Markarth. As it were, the necklace was hanging around the neck of a beggar. I just couldn't get myself to steal that necklace from her. So far, it is the only job that character has flat out refused to do.

I know so many people complain about getting forced into evil quests and then they have it stuck in the journal, but I love it.
My main gripe is unusable equipment, lingering in my inventory.

Brynjolf's scheme. Brand-Shei is such a nice guy.
Spoiler
If it is part of the main quest, you can talk your way around having to do that.

I had to do a quest for one of the Temples of the Nine in order to get access to a master level trainer. As an ardent Daedra worshipper, it really went against my beliefs, but I really want to dual enchant my katana before the MQ is finished. And I've grown tired of grinding through enchanting on my own.

Surprisingly yes, in a sense. Though I DID role the character and chose the Thief blessing this time at the spires...(first time I went Mage, but my PS3 crashed due to a movie DL-not the game-and had to restore so lost everything). But I had intended to be more of a Robin Hood type of thief... but was forced to do some things that were only to benefit the Thieves Guild. But then I really started to get into it... so I guess I am truly a Thieves Guild Member in good standing now. Love my Dark Elf Thief... she's a little vixen! ;)

My characters have no morals, so I won't have trouble going against them. I need to steal something, I steal it. Someone stands in my way, I shout him away. Someone needs to be killed, I kill them. Playing without morals is a lot of fun, you should try it out some time.

I really don't like being the bad guy in games and that has held true in Skyrim. There are enough moral dillemas in real life as it is.

I'll never get all the artifacts in a TES game, and I'm OK with that.

Rolff Stone-Fist.

I even had to set him as unessential.

And I gladly paid the fine.

My current character has no morals, she will not kill khajiits if thats the only one she has  But the banit ones still have to die, can't really avoid that, self defense is ok.

BUT I can see having a huge problem when I play a good character, lots of stuff doesn't give you a choice.
