Evidence of Mr. House's Lasers

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:35 am

Offer an alternate explanation to what House and Raul give or admit your wrong.

Once again, I'm not saying House didn't, I'm saying there's a complete lack of evidence. I'm free to doubt any story that's only told by 2 people, which has no physical evidence. "Vegas is still standing" ... So what? The wind could have saved it.

He's just trolling. It's the same guy who walks into the GECK section of the boards and tries to tell everybody that its no big deal that the GECK is down.

Yeah, what was the big deal about the GECK going down? I still have no idea why people couldn't play the game without it.

The wind stopped the carpet bombing of the world around New Vegas and the Hooverdam..... what are you smoking and where can I get some. Here's the evidence that Raul and Mr. House are telling the truth. No one anywhere in the entire game provides an alternative explanation no one says anything that disputes there claim. If there was an different story, someone would have passed it down in the two centuries since the great war. If lasers mounted ontop of the Lucky 38 didn't shot down any missiles there would be people in New Vegas saying so.

Now you want physical evidence you want to see the weapons but thats the dumb,
1# Installing Laser cannons on your roof was probably illegal in 2078, you'd want it hidden.
2# Letting the Chinese and other countries who can see New Vegas from satellite photos know you have a laser defense system, is probably not a good idea.
3# Where is the physical evidence of Liberty Prime's lasers? Aside from the fact that you see them fire during Fallout 3. There is none because the lasers are concealed within the robot. RoboCo helped bulid a giant robot with concealed laser beams. I don't think conealing lasers in the lightning conductor or the spehres jutting out form the Lucky 38 is a strech.

Good God man, it is said by House and then corroborated by a completely independant witness (the only reason that they are not other is because not many people can live for over 2 centuries); you can't go to the roof to see them is all, for pretty [censored] obvious reasons.

"I guess people are just willing to believe what they are told."

Wow. Of course we are just all vapid drones whom believe everything against the sole voice of reason.

Wow. I'm gone for like a week and this is what happens. *sarcastically puts hands on hips and tsks the lot of you* People talking about dragons, and straw men. WTF? I only posted this so you guys could go look at a hole in a billboard, not start some arguement over the existence of dragons. (seriously, dragons?) And I would like tpo point out that I think the hole in the billboard IS evidence.
...
Of Lasers, not dragons.

Oh yes, dragons.

Reminds me, in FO3 Butch used to say "I heard there were dragons out here. Have you ever seen one?". I'm onto something.

You have to realize, it's not Raul or House saying Vegas was saved by lazar b33ms, it's Obsidian. They don't just put in faulty information just to toy with your mind. The lack of lazar b33ms and a proper face for the Legate are just oversights.

Looks like someone cut an artery with Occam's Razor... Your character, and you, can believe what ever you wish to. When the game first came out I was in your boat. Mr. House had to be full of it. Then through in game actions its hard to deny that if any man could save any town (much less one of such high importance) it would be Mr. House. He has/had all the available tech behind him to do it. He founded RobCo, he owned REPCONN.

@ Commandant Oreo: I always figured Caesar was lying about the Legate to keep people from siding with him him in case of a mutiny. Its hard to talk a savage animal down from a fight like you can the Legate, and for someone who cares nothing about the way of the Legion, and only of killing he seems to be more 'religious' then Caesar with his private sacrifice to Mars. If it was only show he would have done it in front of his men... However I could now be cutting into myself with Occam's Razor :glare: .

dike Dastardly: The Legion is a lie(Caesar is not Caesar, he is not the son of Mars, he did not create the Legion, etc.) however I don't see why he would lie about somebody's face. The mask is terrifying enough, but having a damaged face reminds people that the Legate is human too, and lying about it doesn't really seem like a good idea. Imagine if somebody did see the Legate's face? That would ruin his reputation and people might regard Lanius as a fraud. I think if somebody says something, and it doesn't turn out to be a lie(Barton Thorn), then it's believable, and in the case of the lasers, there is no reason why House would lie about it. It just makes sense as to why a lot of water isn't irradiated, and why a lot of infrastructure is still around.

The lasers are on the roof of the lucky 38, they probably retract into the roof. H

New Vegas is far to intact, someone had to have shot or otherwise disabled the incoming missiles. If you were standing beside me I'd take your bet and then your money as you have no evidence to support your theory.

Seems like he could be bluffing a little, trying to win the courier's loyalty with shows of power. I just think it's a little odd Vegas itself was targeted in the great war. No real importance, military-wise, at least in the short term. I say this because if a city like Pittsburgh wasn't targeted, why would Vegas be? A lot of lore I've heard suggests most of the nuclear attacks focused on airfields and communications centers, not industrial targets. McCarran was still a civilian airfield, so most likely, it wouldn't be targeted.

Now Nellis and Black Mountain? We know they got hit. But do you include those warheads with the 77 that were supposedly targeted for Vegas, or are they separate?

All in all, we do know House went to great lengths to protect his baby. But can we be certain how much there was to protect it from?

Well, I guess people are just willing to believe anything they're told. If House and Raul said a dragon saved Vegas I'm sure you'd still believe them, just because Vegas is there.

Because as a game, it's a work of fiction, just like any fictional book.

Tell me, when you read Othello, do you decide that Desdemona actually survived her stranglings and went on to write a New York Best Seller about her life and experiences with Othello and thanks to that success, went on to be a Broadway star? No, because nothing in the book indicates this happened. In the same way, the evidence and hints given to us, the "readers," supports that Mr. House fended off the vast majority of the nuclear bombs.

Indeed, but we can't literally apply all real-world evidence to support arguments about the Fallout universe. Vegas could have developed into an almost exclusively tourism-based economy and, in a nuclear exchange targeted at wiping out each other's airfields and communications systems, I believe Vegas proper would not have been a high-priority target in the Fallout universe. Sure, it had industrial capacity, but so did Pittsburgh, which wasn't nuked in spite of it. The exchange that was the great war can almost be seen as a massive tactical bombing, rather than a strategic exchange.
And besides, House could have had a little fun with his interpretation of "Vegas". 77 warheads for the entire area, not Las Vegas itself. That would include Hoover Dam, Nellis, Black Mountain, Helios One, Repconn, Hidden Valley(?), and, of course, target number one, the Sunset Sarsparilla Headquarters. "Death to the capitalist soft-drink bourgeois!"

While I am not well versed in the Fallout lore in New Vegas, IRL Vegas is the most populated city in Nevada and the preeminent tourist and gambling location in the country. If China wanted to strike a blow to morale and the economy, not that there would be much morale or an economy immediately after a nuclear strike, I would suspect that Vegas would be a perfect target. Not to mention that it’s suburbs likely house the majority of the workers of the Nevada Test and Training Range, Groom Lake, and Area 51 (ooooh, I smell a DLC!). Heck, Area 51 is only 83 miles away from Vegas. Even if the Fallout universe never evolved in a way to permit the development of Groom Lake and Area 51, we can at least see evidence of real life military installations such as Nellis Air force Base. It is not inconceivable that the combination of military targets, large population, and booming tourism economy would have made it quite a large target to the Chinese! In fact, I’m surpised that it fared so well even with Mr. House pulling strings.

Yes, but like I said, I believe the great war was more of a poop-your-pants and keep their planes down & confused rather than a strategic bombing.

However, the only way to know for sure would be to know the Chinese launch protocols and if they had different scenarios they could follow, sort of like if the Chairman(?) said "execute airfield suppression". Strategic bombing is usually planned for, and I don't think many people would be championing moral blows when retallitory strikes were emminent.
