Is this a pic of New Vegas or is it just a shopped pic from Fallout 3? http://www.platformnation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Fallout-new-vegas.jpg

Shopped. If you keep looking at the sign in the background you should see that it doesn't quite fit with the overall scene.

Plus I think one of the people who work for the magazine confirmed it somewhere.

I hope the game does have vehicles as implied by the alleged leaked info. Here's something I'd imagine the raiders driving around.. http://i47.tinypic.com/349fd5l.jpg

I wouldn't put my money on it. I just can't see it as reasonable expecting a proper vehicle system to be made so quickly. That car would sure fit though.

Off topic:
I always wondered, how come she couldn't loose the pieces of junk after her with that thing. Surely the car wasn't shown in a favorable light in that movie despite the ending chase attempting to be a one huge caradvertisemant. :P

Actually I would put my money on it - they don't have to invent or re-create the engine or the game creation kit (GECK), so this leaves alot of time for other things. Plus vehicles were already added, at least in motorcycle form, by a modder - so the basic concepts are supported by the game already.

I very much hope we get vehicles just as they were described in the "leak". Bring back Car Wars and it will add tons of spice to the game.

Not FO (but obsid) related:

Apparently some posters on Neogaf managed to find a leaked early alpha build gameplay footage of Obsidian's canceled Aliens RPG game:

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Aliens-RPG-Gameplay-Footage-Leaked-22168.html

edit:

Just to be clear, this is from an extremely early pre-production build.

i for one wouldnt like vehicles. what i would like is the option of having your own caravan while you are traveling and paying a caravan guard to guard your belongings while you go looting through buildings.

Yes, they did make a working bike... and it pretty much svcked  Creating *proper* vehicles is a whole deal more complicated than simply tweaking with movement controls and adding vectors. Just look Oblivion's horses (which was an official and thought-through feature) and you'll see how much work would have to be done in order to bring it to an acceptable level. Not mentioning of course certain gameplay balance questions, such as map-size and topology, and so on.

I think vehicles could work well. I imagine the speed of a car could be limited so that you can't travel from one side of the map to the other in one minute. If you could drive so much as three times the speed of walking, that could be enough. Having characters that follow you around would make interesting passengers who could shoot out of windows, take control of turrets, etc.

What would be fun is customizing a post apocalyptic vehicle with various parts. I could see a sort of high tech upgrade with tesla armor like pieces, raider style armor pieces with animal skulls on the hood. Even more amusing armor pieces with the corpses of radscorpions, things like that. Changing out wheels with tank treads. It would also make finding things in the game world more important, if you find some random engine part while looting that could upgrade your vehicle or find fuel that you could collect. Fallout 3 had all of those mechanic shops which would be perfect for driving a vehicle to and fixing up, changing out parts, etc, could be an npc mechanic that can sell parts, fix the vehicle, sell fuel. Maybe a car that has a robot attached to it that acts as a sentry. That could make combat really interesting by driving to a location, setting up your robot car to shoot from one location, act as a distraction for a group of bandits while you move around their camp to attack from behind.

vehicals would turn it into grand theft fallout. dont get me wrong i love grand theft auto, but i just dont want any vehicals i love random encounters, randomly stummbling up on random locations and all that fun stuff. vehicals would make it easy just to rush through the game IMO.

Ahhh - well that's just an opinion on your part, we all have them. For my part I'll put my faith in Obsidian that THEY know what they are doing more than you or I. :) If they do add vehicles, I think it will be a fantastic addition to the game - and I'll save my judgement of their success in balancing it until After the game is released.

if vehicles are to be added, they'd better push the date back a year...

vehicles don't work with the engine and game data that we know for a fact Obsidian is using. if they wanted to add vehicles, they would have started with a game engine that is known to handle them well.

besides, i don't even want vehicles in fallout...

That'd be a pretty big shock for people if they're only familiar with Fallout 3. Though I guess the same would be true of anything on the west coast depending on what's been happening since the last game...

I will NOT read through 13 previous threads for this.
So if it's been said, sorry.

You shouldn't be able to sell drugs such as stimpacks, psycho or mentats to a man selling clothes/armor.
The same for the rest of the items. This might make it a more immersive economy.
And some people just simply will not barter with you, so you have to spend caps.
An arms dealer with limited stock might want some ammo for the guns that he's selling, such as .44 magnum rounds, but he don't have any need for microfusion cells and will not accept them.
A wealthy settlement's arms dealer will not accept crappy weapons with low CND or just simply bad weapons overall such as chinese pistol.
But even if you have 50 combat shotguns and someone is willing to barter you for them he will not give you his whole shop for all of them. A limit of 1 - 4 weapons per week.

This would mean you cannot spam-sell laser rifles or plasma rifles to everyone and gain a massive amount of money.

But maybe this is too much for the current engine, should I double post this in fallout 4 suggestions...`?

The problem is Fallouts is not an economy like we know... Barter is a stronger component of trade, currency is much "weaker"; if a Merchant thinks they can sell that stimpack, or whatever later for more than the discount on the item they're giving you, it makes sense for them to do so. A weathy settlements arms dealer can use those crappy weapons for parts.

I don't think limiting the way you've described is "fallouty"

neither do I. If I made my living buying and selling stuff, I'd buy/barter for anything that I thought I'd be able to turn a profit with.

I'm not personally too terribly worried about the current market system, either. I think if we had more specialized merchants, it would just start to annoy me - trying to find the right person that was willing to trade what I had to sell. I'm not one of those players who is doing 200+ hours in these games, either (which where I'd imagine you'd start to pay a lot more attention to something like that, off-hand.)

Nevertheless, I did find that before too long (and this has been a common trait through all of the Fallout games, I've noticed - too varying degrees,) I had way more caps than I was ever going to know what to do with. For any real ground-breaking changes, I'd probably be looking for Fallout 4 more than NV. But at the same time, it would be nice to see some more stuff to spend those caps on in the later stages of the game; and that's something that New Vegas could likely manage to accomplish.

For one - I always enjoyed the weapon customizations I was able to get in Fallout 2 - it would be nice to see a return of something like that. Once I have the "best" weapons and armor that I'm going to be playing the rest of the game with, it's always nice to be able to upgrade them a little more, and add some minor tweaks to them.

will the new fallout still use the first/ third person shooter system and not a rpg because that is the one thing i think made fallout 3 great and i want to know weather it is gonna be any good.
