So there's 5 million pissed off customers?

I like the game, I really do, but I'm sooooooooo not happy to be beta testing a major release.

I'm in awe of how it was even released.

How they sold more after release is beyond me. The game critics [censored] all over it because of these issues we've already had to deal with.

I think most gamers these days have realized that the "professional" (lol) reviewers are about as reliable as a bunch of forum warriors in judging game content. That's how...

I think you're giving people too much credit. I'd say a majority bought the game on either liking Fallout 3 (which I'd garner that'd be a majority of the console users) or the hopes of some of the past Fallout developers bringing it more in line with the older titles (being the PC users that disliked Fallout 3).

I can believe it as when the game works it is very good indeed, but i really hope the patch to sort out most issues comes out before they release the first dlc this xmas on xbox 360. If it doesnt then they will be taking the piss.

This is great news! It means the Fallout franchise has a long, healthy life in front of it. We can expect to see lots of DLC for New Vegas more sequels for years to come. :fallout:

I feel bad for the folks who seem to be having major issues, I really do. I had a few minor issues myself. That said, there are folks that say this about every game that is released. If you are one of the folks having issues it is "the worst release ever", if you're not every thing is fine.

let me clarify my position. This game is epic and amazing. One of the greatest ever. But there are quests i cant complete because I started them in the "wrong" way, quests that make my game freeze, game crashes, companion system needs a ton of work. I have not had my save file corrupted, but that possibility is killing me. I would snap the disc strait in half!!! So yes the game is awesome, but so was counter-strike when it was still in beta...... and thats the point. This game does not have the polish of a final release, it literally seems like a beta. Ive already had my game crash over 10 times, prob more. Ive played bfbc2 400+ hours and it hasent crashed 1/4 as much. Halo reach, never seems to freeze and I have to restart my xbox like I have to do almost 100% if I play more than 3 hours. The occasional freeze, i can deal with, all the time, cmon now. still these problems could have been missed in testing. the inexcusable are the save corruption and quest breaking. Youd think they would have 300 people all beat the game in different ways completing all the quests between them all, they would have everything fixed. I mean Im not tryin to glitch my game out or anything, but the shear fact that people are avoiding certain quests in order to preserve their file is pathetic. They shouldnt have to do that. This is a final release. At the very minimum Id take a miracle patch that corrects ALL THESE ISSUES AND MORE, but with all these po'd consumers, they should offer that and the first dlc free. Needless to say, if I knew the extent of the bugs in FONV, i would have waited to purchase it, and to be quite frank, although I love fo way more than fable, if fable III was not so dissapointing, i may have taken back new vegas to get that. I just want my patch!!! Its been almost a month!!!

Have you SEEN the unofficial Oblivion patch? Put Fallout 3 aside, the user fixes for Oblivion probably total more than what they've actually done.

Yes, it fixes all sorts of issues but 99% of those aren't game breaking. I never had any serious issues with Oblivion 1.2 before installing the unofficial patch.

The game and effort put into it are well-worth the money, they deserve all the sales they get!

And given the pie is carved-up alot more with this game than usual, I'm sure both Bethesda and Obsidian are happy too. :)

hate to say it but looks like COD black ops is going to kill every thing with sales already more pre orders then MW2. And we all know how that sold 4.7 million copies sold in U.S and UK in the first 24 hours and 1 BILLION+ in sales to date.

Bah, who cares about how much something as generic as CoD sells? Generic multiplayer fragfest is a confirmed sell these days, singleplayer products have to earn their sells. :P

Thats my point i dont get how a simple game as COD gets so much in sales after you beat it once thats it done game over.

And multi player gets old very fast. its just sad how well a game like that sell the story in them svck most of the time.

Same reason McDonald's sells billions of hamburgers. No one is going to accuse McD's of being the high point of culinary expression, but folks eat that stuff anyway.

As if that is any sort of excuse. The engine is still a clunker, too, even after a full expansion for Oblivion, Fallout 3 and all it's DLC, and now New Vegas.

This.

Bethesda and Obsidian are big-name companies, and marketing Really Does matter in big ways. This game was very heavily marketed by Bethesda - who Knows how to market a game quite well. Marketing is the difference between us "thinking" of a product when the desire comes to mind versus have to go out and do Work to find the product. This is why so many peeps end-up in the drive-through line, its Easy.

FPS is very appealing - I played from day 1 on Doom, Quake 1, Quake 1 CTF, Quake 2, UT, etc, etc - fragged a million bad guys by now. Its fun for kids yes, but it also gets very old, very fast. The young warrior has a strong need to prove his or her skills against others, and I have felt that need on more times than I could ever recall. The single player AAA title experience is totally different, its more mature, more thought provoking and requires more skills in the brain other than superior Twitch and Anticipation skills (which FPS really does develop).

I think the comparison between FPS and RPG are bogus; its like trying to compare apples and oranges. Both are good for different reasons, and one would never go about accusing an apple of tasting like an orange or visa versa.

Shipped means sold !

Doesn't matter if Joe Gamer bought it yet or not....the store bought it. There for it is considered sold.

But if the stores are asking for more stock.

Well done Ob and Beth. I see the figures are for retail sales so figure in another 750,000 for direct downloads, very nice. Now if I can just have a quick word about blunt axes, clothing slots, alchemy :bolt:

Shipped != Sold (and depending on the sales contract between the publisher and the retailer, the retailer may not have even paid for the goods, or can return them at no risk, etc.)

You see this all the time in retail. Supplies ship out lots and lots of stuff prior to the holiday sales season and count it as "sold", then the returns start trickling in in January and stores start to return unsold merchandise.

Still sad that they couldn't find it possible to delay a few weeks to fix game-breaking bugs.

So if only 20% of their customers have encountered the freezing, corrupted saves, and glitched quests, only a million customers are angry! :)

Are we all so surprised because we secretly dread what we think is the stupidity of the masses? Meaning we were worried that people would be put off by a focus on something other than running and gunning? I know i was.

Maybe there is a larger number of people that don't appreciate being thought of as simpletons, and don't like being underestimated.

...

Or maybe FO3 was just really popular, and any Fallout title would do well riding that success.
