It feels odd to play as the "dragonborn" when your n

dont you all feel the same way?
the game puts u in a position of being this new legend reborned dragonborn
you are hereby the true legend of all ancient "Nords"
if you guys listen to one of the bard songs they sing about how the ancient nord hero the dragonborn will come to save us all
so it feels awkward to me when im slaying dragons, absorbing their power and even interacting with paarthumax, the greybeards etc when im like let's say a khajiit or a elf etc...
just how much out of place does it feel ? to be the legendary nord hero the ultimate dragon slayer..yet..you play as a female khajiit or a orc or a dumner or a female argonian..it feels so out of touch..
i mean this more in specifically to the non human races..but even as a breton or a imperial it kinda seems not to fit right well...do you all feel the same way I do?
I feel like this story has to be for a nord male only..maybe a female too but mostly a male nord..
yes i get it this is the land of skyrim the nord's home but why must it be all so self centered around the old nord's storyline? I feel so out of touch playing with a different race it almoust makes me wanna quit playing the main storyline..

Then dont start the main quest and RP it some other way.

It's okay if you're playing an imperial, but yeah, any other race just seem lore breaking. I really can't see an altmer using Thuum to be honest. It just looks wierd.

Nope.

And there could be a lot of reasons for the Dovakin to be a non Nord. Dovahkin's task is to deal with Alduin; everything else is aside from that. Someone who doesn't have an oar or ego in the civil war might be the best person.

Only ever played the MQ with my Bosmer. Never felt right playing it with any other. No Nord could be more suited to being Dovahkiin than my Bosmer.
But thats the beauty of TES. Everyone has a different experience.

I feel the same way. I mean, the world is depending on you. It just seems kinda mean to just wander off and pick flowers for an in game month.

I tell the Jarl about dragons in Whiterun, and not until after I do that and teleport back to riverwood my game starts. I hate being the "hero", I much prefer being my character who could exist in your world without breaking any kind of canon or anything you've set up with your character. xD

I know how you feel...its weird being a Dunmer Dragonborn instead of a Nord, its also a little bit weird being in The Imperial Legion but a Dark Elf Legate doesn't seem odd

yea precisely, i could just ignore the call of help from the people in riverwood to tell the jarl of whiterun that they are in need for help but then what else could i do? i would have no acess to certain locked areas where ur supposed to visit: "thalmor embassy" "the dwemer ruins where u find the elder scroll" "blacksreach" "the throat of the world" "sovngarde" you have soo much more to go to and yet your missing in all of that, it's a tough choice really..

The way I deal with it is that the Dragonborn is in my world I just never meet him. I picture, and did the MQ, as the character you see on your screen. xD

to me it feels also weird to be in the stormcloack rebellion and not being a nord
it's like your fighting against your own kind
so that's another minus for ulfric and the stormcloacks, i dont want to be racist to my own kind, even though his chief war officer tells you that u dont need to be a nord to fight for the freedom of skyrim.
then if that's so why not allowing dunmers and argonians into ur city then?
that's always one thing i had against the stormcloacks, but this isnt about the civil war.
this is about the main game storyline and it feels really strange to be put in place as a different race..
i kinda CAN tolerate being the imperial guy who also happens to be dragonborn..not for nothing but imperials been living in skyrim for generations..so why the hell not?

That's how I felt in Morrowind. You just take it as brutal and delicious irony.

While I normally play the race of the home land were playing in... so Nord, I do see it. Oblivion I feel did a much better job at having the story fit all races.

I don't feel that way at all. Sure, it's true that the Dragonborn features heavily in Nord mythology and lore, but I also understand that the lore does not restrict them to just being Nords. So I have no problem making a Breton Dragonborn.

How so? A female kahjiit has always been the heroine prophesied by the Elder Scrolls that has saved everyone. Well, atleast the Elder Scrolls i've interpreted :P

But yes, it kind of feels like the MQ was designed for the Defaulthkiin, but i really don't find it an obstacle.

To me it's all about breaking through racial boundaries. When my Bosmer became the Dragonborn, she began to gain the trust of the Nords. And, roleplay-wise at least, many Nords realized that elves aren't ALL bad.

true on that
a game like oblivion which i didnt knew much about provided a storyline that offered every race a chance to participate with and without any restrictions for "traditions" or "history"
skyrim is the reverse.
dragons belong in skyrim.
old nord folktale in songs and books describe the hero of the nords to be a mighty dragon slayer.
so all through these years the dragonborn comes but oh wait what's this..? the dragonborn is a cat? he's a lizard? NO he's a high elf??? he's probably a thalmor!!! KILL IT!!!
see? races have such a deep reputation in skyrim
cats and burglars
lizards are thugs
dunmer elfs are magicians
altmers are thalmor
orcs are smiths
imperials are milk drinkers
and nords are the old mighty adventurer warriors!!!!!
