Football Thread - World Cup Special III

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AMERICAN-STYLED FOOTBALL

Just a friendly reminder - we're not interested in having discussions about what the game "should" be called, be it "soccer" or "football" or whatever, so please don't bring that kind of nonsensical arguments into here. We've gone though 14 threads of having at least one argument-per-thread, and frankly the mods are sick of having to moderate and clean up the place for flaming/trolling. So please, just leave those discussions to PMs if you really feel the need to express your opinion on it.
Anyone who ignores this warning will be reported and subsequently dealt with by the mods.

New one!

Am I the only one not bothered by the Vuvuzelas? (on tv that is, in real life they're quite a bit annoying)

I don't mind them either.

Of course vuvuzelas irritate me. Let's look at what's the background noise at various moments in a football match with and without vuvuzelas:

  • A goal is scored.

    • Without vuvuzelas: The crowd delightedly cheers.

    • With vuvuzelas: BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • A player gets to a very promising chance of scoring a goal, something he definitely shouldn't miss, he shoots but the ball fizzes right beside the goal.

    • Without vuvuzelas: When the player is getting closer to the goal the crowd at first goes a bit silent, their attention fixed on him, as he gets closer they get more excited, then as he misses a disappointed "ooooooh" echoing from the crowd is heard.

    • With vuvuzelas: BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Referee shows a player a yellow or red card by a very questionable decision.

    • Without vuvuzelas: Booing can be heard from the crowd.

    • With vuvuzelas: BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • A player makes a very unsportsmanlike action or foul.

    • Without vuvuzelas: Regardless of the referee's reaction, booing and whistling can be heard from the crowd which, if the referee punishes the player with a red card goes down after player leaves the pitch, otherwise it lasts a bit longer.

    • With vuvuzelas: BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
which, if the referee punishes the player with a red card
      BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
      otherwise
      BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Do you see the problematic pattern and how it ruins the experience of a football match?

Are the vuvuzelas so loud as to disrupt the players? I mean, if you're running to take a kick and then you hear them, wouldn't that throw you off, assuming they were loud enough?

Watching Paraguay is enormously frustrating.

Ball gets passed to a Paraguayian (is that the term?) player. Player goes:

"Oh my god, I have the ball and I'm on OUR side of the field?!?!?!"

Player panics, and shoots the ball randomly to clear the field.

Sometimes in the game it seems Paraguay haven't been taught what passing is. It's mind-[censored] to watch >.< Are they really expecting goals with that method?

Yes, vuvuzelas are annoying, but you can't ban them. It's the fans choice to bring them, they paid for their tickets they can make as much noise as they like.

That kinda doesn't make sense. It's a sport event, not a rock concert for [censored]'s sake. Too annoying and distracting noises like those of vuvuzelas should be banned, just like the crowd watching a tennis match can't make as much noise as they want even they paid for their tickets.

While I'm not sure if you should ban the vuvuzela, this is a bad argument in defense for the thing (I refuse to call it instrument). Just because a player has bought a ticket doesn't give him the freedom to do whatever he wants while watching it. If the warnings about vuvuzelas causing hearing injuries are true, then they should be banned. Buying a ticket doesn't generate freedom to do whatever the hell you like, especially not harming your fellow audience members with loud noise.

They're both sports. Any sport deserves some decency, which includes banning the sounds which are just too annoying and distracting.

edit:

That too.

Many players have already said they can't concentrate or communicate on the pitch because of the vuvuzelas. Do we really have to put up with more games like France vs Uruguay just to pander to South Africa?

The loudest game was South Africa v Mexico and that was a great match.

I meant it in a surprised way. As in "Day-um" rather than as a bad thing :P

Oh... Then you should have put an exclamation mark after it, not a full stop which doesn't make it sound surprised but as an annoyed remark. :P

Mexico would disagree.

I agree. I want Italy to lose every game, incredibly painfully.

While I generally despise Italy when it comes to football, Paraguay didn't deserve that goal with such an otherwise horrible first half by them.

Honestly though, the balls they use on this world cup are less heavy and bounce more than usual. I'm not saying that every single mistake a goalkeeper makes should be ascribed to that, but when the ball is less heavy then wind affects it a lot more and the troubles the different bouncing causes for goalkeepers I don't even need to mention. This very mistake, for example, could have been caused by the ball being affected by the wind, or even the heavy rain that keeps pouring down during the match, more than an ordinary one would have been.
