Free DLC would be nice

And free, substansial DLC? Has that happened ever since Doom was updated to Ultimate Doom?

The only one that comes to mind is L4D and the various TF2 updates. Of course, Valve understands gaming PR in a way that no other company does.

My experience deals mostly with scripting issues and lots of them. Some are BUGS (choosing the vegetation formula during "I could make you care" if you got to Vault 22 already [on behalf of the NCR OSI] stops the quest dead.) some are DECISIONS of design that are best described as . . . imprudent (the infamous BoS computer virus isolation free quest, and the endlessly non-entertaining NCR monorail.)

Lots and lots of gremlins too: finished quests still listed (all grayed out), arbitrary notations of dialogue topic for free quests, quest stages vanishing before my eyes (Corp whatsisface told me he'd like my help to arrest Keith, stood rooted in place, started walking very slowly with his gun held beside his hands (wish I had a screenie, it was pretty funny!), got to the front of the building then turned around and told me: "Can I help you?" = quest abortion).

Every hour of play bring up these things and it's fiendishly easy to break the flow of quests and info. None of it is utterly game-breaking but that is only because there is so much to do: when something breaks (as with Keith or "I could make you care" above) I just move on to the next quest and wave the XPs goodbye.

Again, not game-breaking but plenty immersion-breaking. NEW VEGAS needs one of those small scripting patches that contain a massive fix list.

P.S. I did some quest scripting for OBLIVION and it was complex but not complicated. I didn't think it would be so easy to mis-flag so many quests - I wonder if they tried to mess with the basic check/if/next structure of the engine. Also: I don't know how they modified the engine.

Mine works fine.

Mine doesn't. I just had ANOTHER glitch as I posted this. I went to load my game from the main page.
It said would you like to continue from last save? I clicked Yes. Then it started to load and reverted to the main screen.

Hopefully now that it's on Steam and is therefore no longer tied to Micro$oft, we might get free (or at least cheaper) DLC on the PC.

Then again, I'm probably spoiled by Valve and their endless, free updates.

Bugs? I am level 27 and the only thing I saw out of the ordinary is two random weapons appearing in my inventory after leaving the Ultra-Luxe.

@TestECull
What mods are you running at the moment because I've noticed some of the same issues, not all resulting from the vanilla game. I notice you have the gun runners expanded mod from the picture of novac, have you gotten the issue without the mods installed?

The novac screenie is the only one I took while mods were active, and trust me the level loading issues were there beforehand. All the bugs I described are bugs I found in the vanilla game.

I actually haven't encountered any bugs relating to mods, oddly enough.

All my L4D and L4D2 DLC was absolutely free and actually automatically added to the game for me.

The only thing they're charging for now is hats and weapons in TF2, but you can get just about all of those from drops, crafting, and trading anyway so it's completely up to the player if they really want to spend $2 for a hat.

God I love Valve.

L4D2 was a total scam, they ripped off their entire player base and split the community in half. The serious part of the community was driven off within months after the announcement of L4D2. TF2 is a good example of a well supported game but L4D is an abysmal failure.

I would never expect it nor do I think they owe one to us but they did give us the "Fighter's Stronghold" for Oblivion for free one year as a Christmas gift. It's a small DLC but one I rather enjoyed. One just never knows what they will do.

Two "soundbites" I have come to hate.

the general attitude among the community

they will definitely receive a bad reputation among gamers everywhere

Why do some people seem to think that inflating numbers magically turns your opinion into a fact?

I have yet to see a "general attitude" as described here. I have also yet to see any proof of the second one and I see these two 'factoids' on a lot of game forums and they never seem to have any basis in reality.

I genuinely enjoy both games, so it's not a ripoff to me.

Both games are about equal in my eyes. L4D is better in some ways than L4D2 and vice versa.

I agree, some free DLC would go a long way towards making up for the fact that they seem to have totally skipped the play testing phase before they released this game. I know they have fixed, or are working on fixing the major game crashing, save corrupting, you are totally screwed, type of issues. But, it seems like there are hundreds of minor bugs (and while they don't ruin the game they do subtract somewhat from it's overall awesomeness). I just don't remeber Fallout 3 having this many issues.

Tossing us a freebie is the least they can do given the amount of save game corruption bugs there are, and they need to do this to restore good faith with their fans.

What they do now will determine if I buy ES:V at launch, or I wait for a price drop / patch. Or maybe the GOTY version a yera or so later with the DLC and all the bugs worked out.

Well why would Obsidian or Beth bother to fix bugs when Fallout community will fix them for free using G.E.C.K.
Fallout NV is a sandbox, you find a bug and you fix it yourself :D

Which one has an AK47? Which one lets you thwap people with a frying pan? Which one spawned 'Wubububububu" memes internet wide?

Yeah. I thought so. B)

That appeals more to the DIY crowd than anything else. It's kinda like cars, really. The option is there for such an inclined person to grab their tools and fix it themselves, or they can just let the dealer fix it for them.

But that game also have terrible characters, awful zombie path finding, [censored] campaign design all around and worthless balance.

Don't think we will get free DLC (altho I get what your saying).
Beeing on the PC you will get the next best thing tho: Community mods.

I don't care. Hitting people in the head with a frying pan never gets old. :D

I really agree. The first DLC pack should be free, infact if it isn't it's an absolute spit in the face from Bethesda to the fan base (this is coming from someone who has been playing their games hard out since Morrowind) if it ISN'T free.

The game is so riddled with bugs and glitches it's crazy. Half of us have lost 100+ hours in saves, can't finish the game due to broken quests, etc.
