Future Weapon Types?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 12:45 pm

I know people hate this idea but I think they should have primitive civil war type guns in skyrim. I mean is it that unrealistic for this game? They can build a giant killer robot that shoots lasers out of its eyes but we cant have guns? I mean since this game prides itself on realism 200 years should be more then enough time for their technology to advance.

nah, its important for fantasy to maintain a fantasy feel to it, I mean, theoretically, we could see Tamriel advance until it becomes sci-fi, but at that point, it would be a completely different game. And there are no lasers.

This is a fantasy game set in a fantasy world, there is no "realism". And no, guns would be a terrible idea and its against the lore. The world is technologically stagnant because it has magic. There is no point having technology when magic is readily abunant and can do the job easier.

Yup cuz guns just don't make sense in the TES world where there are steampunk machines in dungeons that try to kill you and Tiber Septim can use a giant robot to conquer all of Tamriel.....right...and dwarves have advanced their tech and they likely had access to magic aswell.

There are no dwarves, they have vanished as a race. No-one else in Tamriel understands a bloody thing about what the machines do or what they are even made of. And no-one else can even begin to replicate it, much less want to. Try reading some of the lore before trying to be clever.

My Lightening Storm spell begs to differ. It fires off like a continuous laser. Though, I admit it also resembles a kamehameha wave....especially my characters animation stance.

Obviously you dont get what I'm saying. The point is they've known about the Dwemers machines for centuries....they should've been able to replicate one by now and make new tech of their own. Doesn't matter if the dwarves are gone or not. Also, some people do understand dwemer robots. For example, in Markarth, Calcemo's nephew rebuilt a dwemer spider that wasn't destroyed when attacked and built a staff to control it. Also the Synod was able to fix the Dwemer Observatory in Skyrim by making a new focusing crystal for it. Maybe you should explore the game some more.

Guns would svck because they would break the feel of the game, screw the lore, if Beth introduces guns, the elder scrolls will turn into a different game,

Exactly how will they turn it into a different game so dramatically? I'm not talking about machine guns here im talking about civil-war style weapons. You know flintlock guns stuff of that nature that deal alot of damage but are very slow to reload and fire. Right now ranged characters who dont want magic are limited to bows and bows only. Nothing else. why not add more options to the game?

More options could be crossbows and a variety of throwing weapons, all within established lore and would fit the universe just fine.

This game is not fable, it is not a techologically advancing world. Infact its a tecnologically regressive world, with anything above simply iron age technology frowned upon and avoided because it is considered unnatural and against the divines intentions. Few men or mer's have dabbled with it, with those that have ending up either dead or insane trying to comprehend it, as shown in the game.

Alot of people in the TES world hate magic too. Doesn't stop people from using it. Same with Dwarven tech in game. Calcemo proves this. He is actively researching Dwemer tech and his nephew has rebuilt one as i said before. You forget not everyone in the whole TES world believes in or worships the divines, and for those who dont have a problem with it Dwemer tech could be very useful. Also how has anyone who studied it gone crazy or was killed? There are many examples of people in the Skyrim alone who research dwemer tech without anything like that happening to them.

There are 2 main characters in the game majorly researching dwemer artifacts and technologies and both are loony tunes. The chap in Labarynthian is bonkers, if you talk to him you realise that pretty quickly. As is the chap in the sep/sig outpost. Calcimo is studying the history of the race, not the technology. His nephews device can not leave the room its in, for the same reason that the other automatons cant leave the dungeons; They stop working as soon as they do. Thats because they are macically powered automatons, specifically golems. These are in fantasy lore and have been for decades and have nothing to do with technologal advancement and more to do with simple engineering coupled with magicka.

It doesnt matter what you think anyhoo, there wont be any guns in Skyrim or TES in future. The lore is pretty clear on it, you just have not read it yet and wish to argue the point.

Your really not giving me any proof. I need names not "that dude in so and so" or "this guy in that outpost". Also Calcemo is studying the Falmer and the Dwarves but focuses on the Falmer. This includes Dwemer tech. But his Nephew, Aicantar, is continuing to research the Dwemer tech continually gaining more and more knowledge about it. And no, the machines are steam powered mainly, it says so in the game multiple times, where they get their intelligence is prob from the soul stones they have in them, like the focusing crystal of the Dwarven Observatory. Also please give me the link that says "There will never be any technological advancement in the TES universe ever" because I REALLY would love to see that. Now if you dont have any actual evidence to back up your agrument I suggest you just stop.

Sigh, go read the lore for TES Im not doing the work for you. There is even an entire forum section devoted to the lore if you had bothered to look

http://www.gamesas.com/forum/16-elder-scrolls-lore/

I was deliberately not using specifics because this is not the spoiler section, and to give full blown specifics would be spoilers.

Have I said spears?
Ha! Throwing rocks.

"Have at thee, vile wyrm! I pelt thee with sanctified pebbles of justice!"
Pebbles for distracting people would be awesome. Hell, a dragon age 2 dlc did it, BLOODY DRAGON AGE 2. I don't see flails. Bethesda clearly has an aversion to physics.

You think your idea is new? LOL . I dont have to create an argument, its already been done to death for over a decade and the answer is no guns in TES. And thats not a thread you could have possibly read because its an ENTIRE FORUM not a thread. Geez Louise, talk about lying you didnt even bother to click the link.

It doesnt matter what YOUR logic or reasoning is, it has zero to do with the games lore. TES is built on lore, no guns in lore = never going to happen. Thats the point of the Eldar Scrolls. Bloody hell man, dont you read ANYTHING about the game's history?

The problem is your one of those people who is arrogant and thinks he is always right. You can't stand other peoples opinions. Your hard headed and stubborn and all you have done is insult me from the start. You had no valid argument. No real proof or evidence to back your claims. For example, in LORE there were crossbows in Morrowind, in oblivion and so far Skyrim there are none. So does that mean crossbows cant exist? No. Same with guns, all because it wasn't it the game from the start doesn't mean its lore breaking and cant exist. There is lore that can support the development of primitive guns, such as 200 years worth of time, studying of dwemer tech and theres no dev comment that says the TES world tech is completely stagnant so its ENTIRELY possible. Now please make try and make good argument instead of saying "Im right your wrong" again (not holding my breath.) ??????

I did not insult you at all. You just cant get in to your head that your idea is old hat, and that you simply dont comprehend Mundus, or even Tamriel lore. Crossbows are in lore and as far as I am aware are actually coming to the game in the future.

A cestus would be a good idea, though personally I would prefer more longer weapons like spears or halberds.
