Gametrailers Interview

Post » Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:14 pm

Meh, it sounds cool and everything, but I'm not sure it is something I want on my first game save. I'll probably pick it on my second run through.

For me it's something I would want for every character. I like the old school pop-culture references and jokes.

Still everything else in that trailer looks awesome. I hope we can get drunk in Vegas, the women seem alot more wild and fun then in DC.

Yeah, I like the women. :D The animations aren't great, but I they're better than what I thought. Man, I know it sounds kinda perverted, but I can't wait to get inside Gomorrah! From what I've heard of that place, it seems like it will really be a den of sin, and the devs aren't just over hyping it.

And after seeing that NCR trooper vomit, I expect puking animations for the Courier when we drink too much -- it shouldn't that hard to implement, right?

Technically, not really. It would look awfully weird in first person though.

Now that I think about it, did Chris mean the Strip was bigger than 4 Megatons, or the city of Vegas itself? If it's just the city, that's a bit meh, IMO. Don't get me wrong, over 4 Megatons is still pretty big, but I was hoping something matching D.C...

I think he was saying that each of the four casinos on the Strip was equivalent to Megaton--I don't know if he means in size, number of NPCs, number of vendors, quests, etc. Taking everything else on the Strip into account (exterior environment and additional NPCs, other locations besides the casinos), the Strip is MUCH bigger than four Megatons.

And of course the Strip is just one part of Vegas--the rest of the city is broken up into various districts like Freeside that each have their own minor factions, quests, and in some cases, casinos. I expect that the city as a whole is likely comparable to the size of DC with all of its neighbourhoods.

Ah, I see. You have been most helpful, Lefty. Thanks. :)

Heh, I seem to go on about the size of Vegas a lot, but for some reason, it's really important to me that it's big and there's lots to do. After this bit of news, I'm ever more stoked! :D

I REALLY liked the ambient music throughout the interview. I wonder if it'll be part of New Vegas.

They broke the Puke Taboo :trophy: :goodjob:

*I have to say tho'... I am really not liking the center screen pop-ups [like the one that tells you http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/Shunned.jpg (sometimes while shooting people).
** I do hope (or would like) that these are optional (or have optionally reduced frequency).

Chris's comments on the reputation system are very encouraging news.

It looks as though Josh Sawyer is the one that pushed for the reference humor (according to Chris Avellone). Thanks man! :tops:

The vomit animation I've seen before though
Where? (is it DLC? or based from a mod, or the base game?)

*** Steam is having a sale on FO3 GOTY btw

I hope they fix it so Holdout does not run up to me. I hate that. I should have to find him not the other way around. FO3 bugs me that people run after to give me things or talk to me. It's annoying and it takes away the fun. I want to have to ask people where people are.

Agreed. In fallout 1 & 2 I actually had to make the effort and look for things to do to get me nearer my goal. It led to a whole lot more exploration, fun and challenge. It was one of the main things that disappointed me about Fallout 3 - the way the quest was just fed to you requiring no effort at all. I do hope they remove this.

Are you saying people have to run after us because are actions could result in people shunning us so we might not be able to complete quests? If so that means you have to play smart. Have characters that can charm anyone.

I hate that they just jump out. Holdout is selling concealed weapons to get into casinos, can't be legal. He's running up to every new person in town saying "Hey buddy I have weapons to sneak into casinos :deal:." With all those police bots around and NCR soldiers and Casino workers, someone would have stopped him!." It's just so stupid he can run around doing that :banghead: . It's like Burke in Megaton asking every new person "Hey want to kill everyone with a nuke for me :deal:." "What did you say there Burke?" "Nothing Simms just having a friendly chat :whistling: ." "Ok as long as you're not plotting mass genocide :bonk: ."

No, I used the screen shot as example of a point.

They do this... It doesn't have to make sense to be realistic

You mean, you haven't come across a single encounter with a pop culture reference or an ounce of absurdity?

I agree that things don't have to be realistic but this should. Mr.House is a control freak from all the info I have seen. He would not let that happen a man running around selling weapons to sneak into his casinos. It makes all the Police and Soldiers there look like complete morons. Simms and all the people in Colin's Bar are even bigger morons. Have the people at least act like people. FO1 and FO2 you have to look for info and quests. Now it seems Quest look for you. :banghead:

None in fallout. The thing that stood out to me in fallout 2 was the cafe of broken dreams. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

What Styles means is the humor of the original Fallout games. In the original games (the isometric ones) they would have jokes or references to things that exist in our world and not in the Fallout one. There were posters of Foo Fighters and Google, references to old movies like Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Wow you really have not played any fallout game have you? (I am not making fun). Lucas Simms and Collin Moriarty, they are FO3 characters in Megaton a town in FO3 that has a big nuclear bomb in the middle of it.

Volundarkvioa is right by Fallout Humor I mean pop-culture references from are timeline, easter eggs and special random encounters.

There are people that would act like that; would come up to you and try to sell weapons / and or contraband. Something like this I don't mind as much as say.. the kid that runs after you in FO3.

Its a marketing thing  some people expect to be engaged, others expect to find something engaging (I am also the later type).
My guess is that they want to avoid having the "what am I supposed to be doing?" players ~getting bored for having no obvious tasks.
(even though it annoys the "What do I want to do next" players immensely).
