Gametrailers Interview

Post » Thu Feb 03, 2011 5:18 pm

There are people that would act like that; would come up to you and try to sell weapons / and or contraband. Something like this I don't mind as much as say.. the kid that runs after you in FO3.

Yeah the kid running up to me is annoying, same with people "here I just want to thank you." People do try to sell illegal things but they don't do it out in the open when there are robot cops with missles around. They stay in dark rooms and alleyways. I would under stand if this was New Reno that has Jet Dealers on every corner but this is Vegas that's under the watchful eye of Mr.House.

Its a marketing thing  some people expect to be engaged, others expect to find something engaging (I am also the later type).
My guess is that they want to avoid having the "what am I supposed to be doing?" players ~getting bored for having no obvious tasks.
(even though it annoys the "What do I want to do next" players immensely).

I agree. People that get bored easy and need the quests to jump out and face slap them, should stick to other types of games my two cents. It's way more fun to look for quests and info :D.

to be honest its quite realistic.... is drugs illegal... yes, so people still sell them
No arguments there... But Styles was saying that it is unrealistic that the seller would still be there 20 minutes later (having been carted off by security)

Yeah, but it's the fact that the guy is literally running up to you in the middle of the street to tell you... not very discrete, and is kind of unrealistic.

You know of dealers who run up to their customers, rather than standing on a street corner or back alley waiting for people to see them? Here's what would make more sense:

You're walking down the Strip and you pass by a dark area. A man goes "psst. You want to buy some weapons?" or something of those sorts, similar to when a character is insulting you or talking to someone else in Fallout 3 (where they don't become a "talking head" and you're forced into dialogue). You then walk up to him and he tells you he's willing to sell you weapons you can get past the guards of the casino.

That seems to make a lot more sense than a guy rushing up to the newest person on the Strip and offering them weapons. Chances are in a non-slum area like the Strip somebody is going to tell a Securitron about him or some sort of other law enforcement. That or the law enforcement would get suspicious. Realistically speaking.

Hopefully we can turn him in to the bots!

Upon reading what you guys have said, I know what you mean. In FO3, when Brian Wilks tries to chase you down to start a quest, I usually try to run away, so I don't have the quest marked. :P

So yeah, never really cared for the random NPCs who would hunt you down like a hungry wolf, only to find out they wanted to give you a squirrel on a stick since you seem to be a pretty nice guy.

I would like to see games like this interview the player prior to starting the campaign, to get an idea of what the player is like.

Answers (or lack of) could determine the most likely preferred style of play.

That would be pretty cool, only if they didn't blow him up without engaging dialogue or something.

Hopefully we can threaten to turn him in unless he gives us his items for free (or at discount... depending on Charisma)

The interview where they show a young teen running and gunning. Or like the one along while back where they guy writes a long review saying the game svcks because first thing he did was kill the casino owner and could not get into the casino?

Does seem that alot more people just like to run and gun their way through an RPG. So the Devs have to dumb things down. Having people run up to you is another way of them saying "Don't shoot this person, Quest giver."

I would think with hardcoe mode things would be less like that, seeing as how ammo will have weight and I won't be able to run around with every firearm and energy weapon with thousands of rounds of ammo the way I can in FO3. You can run and gun sure but will run out of ammo very fast.

That happens in Junktown (FO1), and its not guaranteed (just probable).
(Dogmeat is in the cafe also, but its not the same or the first time).

Actually, both are references. Dogmeat is supposed to be the same, in the first game his master is mentioned as a guy in leather armour, in the second you meet said dude (Mel) when you try to attack Dogmeat in the Cafe.

Know what I really like about the interview? The background music, very dark ambience.

I got to hear the interview (stupid soundcard) not too long ago, and I did like what I was hearing. Dark, subtly tribal, vaguely reminiscent of old fallouts without aping Mark Morgan.

Other than the New Vegas loading screen, all of that stuff is E3 footage, specifically the GameTrailers demo. There's no need to get worked up over the AI.

I liked it, but are we sure it's a track from FO:NV soundtrack?

Nope, I'd rather have confirmation on that one. But it creates a sense of hope for the soundtrack. ^_^

As a side note, I'd like to draw attention to the NCR money on the loading screens behind Chris. Brian Menze made them crazy detailed. Print-your-own-money detailed.

Yes, those are nice indeed. Though again, what grabbed my attention was that Sunset Sarsaparilla advertisemant, right out of Sterling Cooper. ^_^

I think F3 was originally going to have animations of you using the drugs. Might have been cut because of the Australia thing.

Why not just leave those animations out of the Australian version?
