Gold disapearing from inventory menu

I think that bug was fixed too. I hope so. So far, my gems are all being filled appropriately and my higher gems are not touched by small fry soul trapping.

The gold glitch has been around. If you do a search, you'll see a couple threads where we tracked the glitch. It can lead to dropped dialog options and thus be a game stopping bug.

Um.... I'm playing on 1.4.21 (or whatever the first 1.4 patchlevel is) and I can drop filled gems and when picking them up again, they're empty. I do it all the time.... And the larger gems still fill with smaller souls - hence the need to drop them to empty them....

Yup. With latest patch (whatever that number is), I have soul gems filled with smaller souls (eg petty soul in a common gem). Dorpping it & picking it up gives me an unfilled common gem.

You're right on this!

http://skyrimforums.org/members/anathoth.3074/, http://skyrimforums.org/threads/gold-not-appearing-in-inventory-glitch.3564/ created a new post here with the same issue I'm facing right now:

"I was outfitting my house in Whiterun via the Jarl's steward, and the 11k in gold I had abruptly ceased to be visible in my inventory. It's still there in that I can use it to purchase items in shops, and it displays the gold amount when I bring my inventory up, but it isn't visible with the other items in my inventory itself. The dialog box for further house upgrades with the steward doesn't display, as it behaves as if I in fact have no gold.
After this happened with one character, upon checking, I noticed it has in fact also now happened to all characters from all saves on my system. Gold is there, but not among my inventory items.
I had been using the glitch for obtaining house furnishings from the steward for free when it happened. Anyone else experience this? I've used the glitch to obtain or furnish the Whiterun house twice previously, without issue.
Perhaps the steward doesn't take kindly to being fleeced after all.."

http://skyrimforums.org/members/xscode.3634/ reply was:

"My gold disappeared right after I finished the "escape from Cidhna mine" quest. The amount shows in the menu at the bottom, but not the actual "item" itself.
I can still buy from traders, but anything thats done from a conversation menu, bribe, invest etc. is not available anymore. Confirmed that all my previous saved games now have the same issue.
Playing on PC... no glitches or cheats used. Need HELP PLEASE..."

I have explored all (I guess) avenues to be able to continue enjoing Skyrim. Steam allows to create multiple accounts from the same computer, but it's not possible to start a new game having just one CD-key. As far as I am aware, there is no way of resetting game cache, game play-time or achivements. Steam says, it's not possible at this time. So, if anyone else wants to start a new game on the same computer, the stats do not reset. Which means we can have 1000's of hours played and no way of knowing who achieved what!
To the point. I have bought Bethesdas games since Arena. I enjoyed all of them greatly. Now I have no other option to enjoy Skyrim, other than buy another copy and register it with Steam. This will prove to be the most expensive game I ever played... and I have played games for 30 years... that's right: 30 years. Now... do I pay for another copy or just download Skyrim from other sources (I know they exist).

I guess Steam doesn't give a [censored], but what about Bethesda?

I had the same problem after I store my money in a cupboard, home, before going to that Embassy Party. After I retrieved it it didn't show anymore in my inventory and I could not make an offer in money to an outside altar. It lasted a few days but later everything was fixed by itself. I'm on PC. Sorry to be late but I'm on Oblivion for the moment. Hope you'll still wait before restarting a new game.

As for the soul gems: Yes it's nice to drop a great gem filled with a petty soul and get a new empty great soul gem. I hope they won't change it.

Wow. I've been reluctant to bash Bethesda for the many bugs in this game, but this is un-f###ing-acceptable. Bethesda, y'all really need to sort y'all's $*** out.

It's too late for that.
I reinstalled Skyrim, new game didn't fix the problem.
Reinstalled Steam and Skyrim again, same [censored] is being uploaded from Steam despite me deleting save games and user data. Everytime Steam starts I have those corrupt files back inside folders.

I give up!

Thanks to everyone who participated here.

There was never a reason for me to do it, but I guess I'll be sure to never store my gold in any container.

And pickpocket is broken in my game. When I am caught, the skill no longer works, on *any* actor and eventually leads to a CTD. So much for level 81.

jerzypk - don't give up. In Steam settings turn off Steam Cloud. Then reinstall skyrim.

Are all of you on consoles? I ask, because I (on pc) have no issues storing gold in containers and having it return to my inventory when I remove it from said container. Though I must state up front: I'm only at patchlevel 1.4.21 - I'm not having game problems, so I'm not patching....

[Edited to add: I should also state that except for a brief "stay" in the drawer of the end table in the Alchemist's Shack, all my gold is stored in containers in my own houses.]

I'm on PS3 and I've only had the Stolen tag thing that I cleared. After all this I'll never store my gold anywhere.

Thank you for your advise. I did indeed have SteamCloud on. I deleted Skyrim and all associated files from my computer, as well as any user data files I could find in Steam folder.
I'm reinstalling Skyrim now. See what happens...

I'm on PC. It's funny... never I had any problems with Bethesda games. When new updates/patches came around, I read what the fixes were and thought: I never had this problem, I never had that problem. Uhm, I guess I was just lucky... until now. All the other problems may just be glitches one may live with, but this one is, as other user said: GAME STOPPING. Absolutely

I sent a "Question" (as Steam relates to support issues) to Steam Support linking this topic. I hope they'll send me a reply some time soon...

buckom, you've been with me for all this time. Thanks for that.

I have the same feeling about buying and playing game, and being bound by some user agreements from third party company. Any other game you play, you stop, you reinstall, clear game data... install again and start afresh. No [censored] added.

Serethil, I think it was about 1985 when I got "Dungeon Master". I played that on Amiga with my 5 year old son taking cover under his favourite pillow, whenever we encountered monsters...LOL

Aw..... hey, at least you were there to help out! My daughter was 18 that year. She never had any interest in computer games.... until I seduced her (and her whole family) into WoW a couple of years ago....

NP. I've gotten a lot of help here so I try to pay it forward when I can.

I know what you mean about Steam. At the very least: I don't care how much memory you have and how fast your CPU is every little applet running takes up some resources. <_<
