Gold disapearing from inventory menu

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 4:35 am

Oh, Steam starts when my pc does.... but it's required to ask me if I want to start offline, or go online. The answer is ALWAYS "start offline". So it's not accessing the "cloud" at all. It's just sitting in my systray, idle. I'm okay with that.

I'm actually NOT okay with Beth bending over for Steam. I didn't realize that was the way it was set up until I'd already paid for and opened the box. If I had known, I would not now be playing the game. Do I love Skyrim? Absolutely. Do I love Steam. No. I have NO USE for it. Am I happy that Beth went there? Nope. Not a bit. And this will be the last Beth game I buy and play as a result.

Hasn't happen to me, and I always keep my gold in my safe in Proudspire at increments of 50,000. The bug that I got was that every time I add those gold back in to my inventory, it keeps counting as gold found in the stats. It reckons I've found around 5million gold in the game, but I've actually only found 2million to 3million.

When I first tried to install my game I thought I'd be able to bypass Steam installation and install Skyrim files only. To my astonishment I couldn't do it. I also have no use of Steam, I'm not online player, I love Elder Scrolls, and any other good RPG game which doesn't happen very often these days.

Steam is still installing Skyrim, at least so far as I checked My Documents folder, there is no Skyrim folder there yet... so I may be OK this time around with Cloud off. I shoudn't have said that. It's bad luck as my Mum used to say.

Okay, here's what I did: bought the game, box with dvd. Installed from the dvd.... and then set up to access steam offline using the instructions here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555

Works fine. Steam only gets to go online when I decide it needs to - which I might just mention, is ONLY once since 11/11/11. Now, for people who are jonesing about other steamies knowing all their achieves etc. obviously that doesn't work. But I don't care period. I'm NOT social, and good LORD why would I want to compare "mines bigger than yours" ANYWHERE? Sheesh....

Best of luck to you! I hope you get this sorted out. Aside from hardware crap, these days there's NOTHING I hate more than software that doesn't behave. And *sigh* - the hardware crap is landing on me BIG TIME.... I have two new hdds arriving on Wednesday.... and then I'm cloning my drives so (I hope) NOTHING dies. Too much drive noise, and WAY too many years of info on them....

A tear appeared in my eyes... ah, memories...
Oh yes, real good memories with my Amiga too. I kept playing Eye of the Beholder (DaD) for years...

On PC ... Steam fully enabled ... I can't ever remember gold showing in my inventory UNLESS I was storing it in a container or retrieving it. All transactions seem to work okay. I ALWAYS assumed the gold amount did not show in inventory unless I was transferring it or giving it. But in saying that, it was in the early days of playing Skyrim that I stored some gold in containers. I never noticed it stop appearing in the inventory. Was gold ever an entry in the inventory? I dunno. However the total of gold still shows in the bottom right hand corner of the inventory menu, so I never really thought about it. Therefore I suppose I don't miss it NOT showing as an inventory item the way that lockpicks do for instance. I do vote however for this to be fixed in an update patch.

Thank you for your advise. I did indeed have SteamCloud on. I deleted Skyrim and all associated files from my computer, as well as any user data files I could find in Steam folder.
I'm reinstalling Skyrim now. See what happens...

I forgot to mention why I suggested turning that off. Steam Cloud copies your saves, and syncs them. I believe this is why they reappeared, even though you had deleted them all. Steam is not a good idea for Skyrim, but at least, you still have access to your games in offline mode.

So far as I can tell, I have no connection to the Steam Cloud. I have no other Steam games or computers that use them. I just (today, in fact) deleted two mods from the Workshop, and reacquired them from Nexus. I'll update manually (I also install manually, as I do not trust 3rd party apps - this goes back to Curse and WoW addons). I installed a Creative X-fi card to bypass the onboard audio to see if that would fix the audio lag I have... it didn't, but boy does it sound much better! I also moved my whole Skyrim installation to my SDD. That helped, but something's still not right. Latest patch, latest drivers, etc. I'm going to go offline mode in Steam to see if it's messing with things.

I can't remember if it ever was an inventory entry or not. I do remember at some point on an early toon actually realizing that gold didn't show up as a line-item.... but whether that was just because I was very new to the game and there was SO much going on or because I was just not very observant, I can't say.

I just remembered... you can't select which data files you want to load if Steam is in offline mode. Sabotage!

Patches before 1.4.27 did not allow you to change your load order, and changing them via plugin.txt didn't work either. That was the only reason at the time that I came out of offline mode.

Now, this is how I have done it so far (for the last time)r:
I uninstalled everything, deleted every trace (I hope) of Steam/Skyrim files, ran registry cleaner and this morning I've reinstalled Steam.
I didn't let Steam to proceed with Skyrim installation. Instead I disabled "Run Steam when computer starts" in Steam/Settings/Interface. Next I disabled "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for games which support it" in Steam/Settings/Downloads+Cloud. I thought I was ready to install Skyrim. Something didn't feel right though... mind you, I've been doing the same thing since I started this topic way back on March 26, with no succses whatsoever.
I right-clicked on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in the top left corner and clicked on Properties. Under the Updates tab I saw this: "Enable Steam Clound synchronization for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It was ticked on and... dimmed! WTF, I thought...
Went back to Steam/Settings/Interface, ticked "Enable Steam Cloud..." back on, right-clicked on Properties and then I was able to untick Cloud. Finally I disabled Cloud in Settings. I restarted my computer, checked if Steam was running; it wasn't.
I ran it manually and clicked on Install Skyrim... it's still going at 87%.
After it's finished, I'll start a New Game and if this doesn't produce any results I'm going to shove this game DEEP up someone's ARS.

I'm still waiting for Steam Support's replay to my issue...

Let me save you the trouble and tell you what their reply will most likely be: "Try updating your video and DirectX drivers.". <_<

I'm not trying to make light of your situation. I'd be fit to be tied at this point and I've broken disks over less. :o

On the subject of replies from support staff: I don't like stoic cold "automated-ish" responses either, especially when it doesn't solve the problem.

And who this got way off topic XD.

If you're still interested in gold glitch....

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1348326-help-with-gold-not-showing-in-inventory/page__fromsearch__1

There are some things in here to try to get your gold showing again...

... and by the way.... I did get dialog dropped from my choice eventually and had to stop playing that character.
