Also the world would be pretty weird with everyone talking to themselves.
They already do. A few years ago if you saw people with their hand to their ear talking to themselves you would have thought them mad - now they are everywhere, walking down the street, in the supermarkest, in the bars. Google glasses, or a future derivative of them, will eventually seem normal.

there are hands free phones now too, people clip them to their ears. where i live 25% of people use them. and i don't live in a metropolan area

If pulled off correctly, there is no reason these shouldn't be the next step in our civilization. Unfortunately, these things arent going to come out for another ten years at best. I find it hard to believe that I would be able to focus on something so close to my eyes for so long and enjoy it.

Not to mention you would have to pay for internet on the thing.

From what I can tell, it uses a projector, so there isn't really any focusing involved. Also, yeah, you'd need to pay for Internet just like normally do, but I'll bet it has WiFi on it as well.

I keep hoping I'll be dead before technology gets too silly for my personal tastes. But tech's moving too fast, so....too late. ;)

...I can see "glasses" like these being useful for certain purposes, like gameplaying or twittering while watching your fave shows or something. But y'know...I'm old fashioned. I don't even like 3D glasses. And walking the street with them? Oh brother.

But...what about six? :P

I, too, think these will be the next step for technological advancement...films have seen it coming for ages, and it's about to be realised. They'd be damned cool, and I can imagine them being pretty functional too...if done correctly. Whether Google will do that, however, remains to be seen.

I saw a story on it on CNN today, and it seemed pretty interesting. I could see some humps to this though, price, data use, problems with random advertisemants when you look at a store or something. If this happens, it cannot be commercialized and ruined.

Addressing few misconceptions:
1. They use a projector so the image appears a few meters away. You wouldn't be able to focus this close to your eye.
2. It's unclear from the video but they do NOT block vision. The UI is not like a HUD. It's sort of in the corner of your field of view.
3. You can use them without voice commands.
4. They will probably fit fine on top of prescription glasses.
5. For the paranoid parrots worrying about ads. Think of Android. Have you seen a single ad in the OS parts of Android or in any of the Google Android apps? No? Then why the hell do you assume Glass will have ads?

Last point - most of my apps have ads.

You're speaking of third-party apps. Google obviously has no control over those. Google apps, like the mobile GMail, Google+, Google Maps, Google Play Books, etc. don't have ads.

I don't understand this, there doesn't seem to be enough space for the image to appear a few meters away in quite a few of the exemples in the video. For instance, when the person is looking at his/her feet at the 0:06 mark?

It depends on how the display works, really. If you have to constantly strain to see the picture or if it uses a bright light or something like that, then yeah, I can see it being bad for your eyes. Mind you, I'm not an eye doctor, so I have no idea if there's some risk there that I don't know about.

However, I don't think a device that small would have enough current running through it to do any real damage to you in a short circuit unless someone invents Fallout-style microfusion cells between now and then. The most you'd ever be likely to get is a minor burn unless a faulty battery somehow leaked onto you, and that's a small risk with any electronic device.
Just saw your reply, sorry. Yeah, I agree these glasses are probably not that dangerous. My own personal "phobia" is to go blind, so I'm suspicious/afraid of anything close to my eyes (except my own glasses).

I think he meant that the image is projected on the glasses, but eyes focus several meters away. Think of a moderj fighter jet HUD and collimation - the image technically dispalys in front of your face, but you do not need to focus on it.

I've heard this a lot, but Google would be out of their mind if they implemented something like this. The Glasses would not do well at all if their users were constantly being bombarded by advertisemants.

Still, advertisemants or not, I want a pair. :D

Me too, also it says on wikipedia they are looking into incorporating games such as Second Life to be playable via the glasses. Would this be the first true (small-ish) step towards virtual reality?
