A great article about female armour and the absurdity of six

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:24 pm

So shameful to see the most popular mods for this game are the naked/prettier female mods.... Granted, the majority of TES players don't have girlfriends, but still... it's sad.

Anyway, Bethesda are ok with female armour... They definitely have absurdly sixual female armour varieties but there are plenty of RPGs out there which are worse. Thought it was a good article about it...., great for a read - check it out.

Welcome to the wonderful world of player made PC game mods

Oh, I love PC mods.... There are some fantastic improvements already - and we don't even have the Creation Kit yet!!!! There are wonderful texture/UI/performance enhancers... Modding is generally great... But I do feel supremely embarrassed for all the sixless wonders out there who for some reason need to have pixelated naked women running around Skyrim.... Yikes.....

I'll answer this as simply as possible:

In real life you wear armor for protection.
In a video game you wear armor to make your character look how you want them to look. Armor rating is secondary (This excludes MMOs, where stats are everything)

It's considered normal though ME2 is just down right terrible and this type of content saved it from getting a trash score.

I like Skyrim's armour just fine, but I understand how in fantasy media the idea is to stimulate the audience while allowing them to remain detached from the logistics of whether it can work or not.

It's like that with magic in games. The idea of magic requires removing any need for it to be realistic, but it's very cool to look at.

Yeah, half of the female characters I've seen in the "Show your character" threads are wearing some skimpy outfit. 8 times out of 10 it's Nocturnal's outfit. *shrug* We men just love them lady parts I guess.

In a video game RPG you explore a new world, and for normal healthy advlt players the more realistic the better. Mutating the game into mastvrbatory material is absurd - only men incapable of six with women would do this.

I agree for the most part Bethesda has made female armor not too provocative. In Morrowind and Oblivion, armor was as unisix as possible. They have amped up the six appeal in Skyrim, though it's still not as bad as other games

I'm on console (PS3) and I never play as female. In Oblivion the armor was so bad for females it was criminal, not because they're revealing but they were just so poorly designed. Skyrim looks better so I may play as one someday. But I'm not in to pervy pixels.

First I wanted to say that you imply that being attracted to skimpy female outfits isn't normal and somehow unhealthy, but then I read the next sentence ... oh goodness.

Err, you should do a little web research, especially on the subject of partners sharing fantasy gaming experiences, it's quite an eye opener.

And? Let the so called freaks be freaks. An very common saying is "It's a Single Player game, how does it affect you?" Also, for most RPers, the "As realistic as possible" argument ends when they wan't their character to look pretty.

Skyrim didn't do it anyways (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Armor) so it's not at all relevant to this game. In fact, it's irrelevant enough to this game that I'm going to request that it be moved to the Other Games section.

I noted that Bethesda are actually quite good for realistic female armor, and the supplied article was generally of interest. The idea that you would "request moving to Other Games" is hilarious. Perhaps you need to reread what I said, I was never criticising Bethesda for doing this. I was criticising the PLAYERS for doing this, which yes - makes it quite relevant to the game. *facepalm*

You are still saying that many gamers like skimpy armor/clothing on women. That's true of basically any game including Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout, Neverwinter Nights, Grand Theft Auto. It's not directly relevant to Skyrim just because you singled out one game's community.

Goto any car show, heck look at Blizzcon, E3 game conventions, etc etc. What do you see in all, scantily covered chicks. It's just hilarious the OP even makes a big deal out of this and assumes because a red blooded Male likes to look at bare bodied chicks must mean he can't get some, hahaahhahahahhahhaa
six sells, don't matter what it is. From Fox newscasters, to Auto Shows, to Gamers, to Commercials. ......

Post reported. Grow up.

This armor thing also bothers me. Some people want to RP as a female, but it's kinda hard if you're wearing a metal bikini instead of, you know, real armour?

That is also true, although I won't laugh at the OP or insult him, even though he has no problem doing it to people who disagree with him. But here is a quote from one of my favorite shows that sums it up as far as I'm concerned:

Dr. House: We can try and pretend we're above it or we can try and intellectualize it away, but ultimately, shiny, pretty, perky things are good, [pause] and ugly, misshapen teenage boys are repulsive.
Director: The question was, "Do you resent Dr. Cuddy's interference in your practice?"
Dr. House: Oh. Well then I guess my answer wasn't very helpful, was it?

I havent started a female character in Skyrim so I have no idea what they look like yet.

My fav female armor of all time is still the Dragonlance artwork from the 80's.
Larry Elmore always made Laurana look like a seasoned warrior. Brave, fierce, determined and a hint of womanly curve underneath.

Lol - if you don't want it, don't download it! When I played TES on PC I did have some mods for making people look better. Just basic things like better bodies, better faces. Frankly, I dont see anything wrong with that. To be clear, I don't want to see glamazon NPCs or anything, but I do want something nice to look at. With that being said, I never used sixy armor mods - but I did have better looking armor mods.

All in all, I would say the problem is the modders making it for the most part. You know some people (I'm assuming kids) will see them while scrolling through and download them, but that's life and doesn't affect you at all. As previously stated some games are much, much worse (ME2 anyone?)

EDIT: on a side note, I do think it's very prevalent in for gamers. I competed in MLG in Anaheim, the Dr.Pepper girls there.. Oh man. six sells for gamers. :P

Thats an absurd statement. Where is your statistical proof backing up your statement that the majority of TES don`t have girlfriends.
Sorry but your posts come across as quite trolly. I`m sure there are females who play the game that may like to wear armor that does not make their character look like a male
Why would you be bothered about what other people want to do in their games? I don`t understand this mentality of people that can`t accept how others want to play their game.

It`s a game for goodness sake, It`s not like it has to be practical because of real life chances of life and death..

I was promised an interesting read here, I am decieved.

Though it's amusing how apparently having six makes sixual imagery unappealing.

A lot of the armor looks really similar to that. The only skimpy armor is an alternate set of Fur armor

As I recall, There were numerous threads before Skyrim's release asking for separate versions of clothing for males and females (Like morrowind I think). So women could wear pants, men could wear skirts, and generally everyone played how they wanted to play.
