Have Beth forgot their "lore" book?

Where in the Lore does it say that Vampire lords dont bust into bats?

There are countless parts of Tamriels history we know nothing about. Just because theres something new, doesnt mean that it breaks lore.

How can there be a retcon, if there wasn't much of anything to begin with. Not to mention, vampire lore is so sorely lacking, Bethesda could have made it so that vampires could also sparkle in the sunlight. Seriously, the amount of lore for vampires is extremely vague at best, with a looooot of bloodlines all around.

Not to be rude, but why don't we just wait until the DLC comes out first before we make any decisions about the lore? Keep in mind that ES lore is left intentionally flexible and ambiguous. Some of the grandest concepts and schemes known in the community are almost completely based on second-hand sources and out-of-universe information. Nothing says that the lore can't change or be expanded upon.

There are over 100 vampire bloodlines. We only knew of a few; Anthotis, Garlythi, Haarvenu, Khulari, Lyrezi. Montalion, Selenu, Thrafey, Vraseth(All from Daggerfall). Then we have the Quarra, Berne and Aundae. Then we have the Yekef, the Dread Telboth(Swallow men whole), Keerilth(turn into mist), Bonsamu. We have the Order from Cyrodiil and the Volkihar. Note that the Volkihar are the vampires from Eastern Skyrim. There is no mention of the other vampires of Skyrim.

We have 18 known vampire clans. Nothing compared to the rest of the unknown clans.

Agreed, every time Bethesda wants to add something new or change something old they should inform us by adding the relevant information via book in a older game.

So, if they wanted Winged-Vampires, they should have mentioned it in Oblivion!

Vampires who use firearms and shine in the sun with their athletic bodies. -> Not following the lore.
A vampire clan with appearance demonic trying to cover up the sun, so they can walk freely without turning a barbecue.. -> Expanding the current lore of the series.

It is lore in the making. That is how I see it. Everything in the lore had to be new at some point in the timeline.

Not to say that almost every part of Lore is subjective. The author of the book could be wrong.

Bethesda has many, maaany liberties regarding Lore due the way they explain Lore to us (Trough Books written by In-universe authors)

Dawnguard vampires are more based off Dracula than anything else. The game models are based off of the movies.

Like in Skyrim, Dracula is much less powerful in daylight and is only able to shift his form at dawn, noon, and dusk (he can shift freely at night). The sun is not fatal to him, though, as sunlight does not burn and destroy him upon contact. He can shapeshift at will into forms of a a bat, a wolf, a fog/mist. He also feeds on sleeping people and likes virgins.

We retcon our own world all the time as new discoveries are made. Having things change just makes The Elder Scrolls as a universe more alive.

As others have said, your gasping at straws. There is hardly any info on vampires in the lore, and what there is isn't very reliable at all. Not to mention that TES vampires svck, any improvements is a good thing rather it follows lore or not.

I think we know enough about the sample size of Vampires we have been exposed to to know what to expect at some basic level from any other new Vampire strains we might encounter. Winged Vampires is off that roster to me. Vampires are varied, yes, but as far as physical changes, nothing has ever been so extreme as a pair of wings. Not only that but the whole bat emphasis is really cliche. I say that the info already in the Elder Scrolls is good enough to come up with a new Vampire Clan, but it seems as if much about these Vampire Lords is taken from other media.

I see the vampire lords as like the orginal vampires, old and very uncommon, perhaps created by Lamae Beolfag or Molag Bal himself depending on which lore you believe to be correct... maybe all other vampires have decended from them.

You have vampires that can turn into mist, and men/mer who can transform into werewolves/boars/bears/sharks/crocs/vultures. Is it really much of a stretch for there to be a bloodline that can turn into a nightmarish bat thing? You ask me, there isn't. As been said by many, the lore on vampires is so vague and there is so little of it, seeing this is not surprising in the least of bit. Also, the vampire lore is so sorely lacking and just not there, I whole heartily welcome my new batmen overlords.

Believe it or not people, Bethesda CAN add new lore. Lore isn't just thrown into the world one day and then never changed again - its constantly being added to, changed and altered.

If you think that Bethesda are just going to throw random things into the game without any lore, then you clearly don't know much about TES. There are plenty of logical explanations as to how the Vampire Lords came about, and why we've never heard of them. And since we know next to nothing about the Castles, it's ridiculous to assume that they're just going to be thrown in beside a city.

My advice? Don't decide you hate something until you have all the facts. Try WAITING until you've played through the quests before complaining about how Bethesda have made the worst game ever.

I actually like the addition of wings. I got so tired of eveyone subverting everthing on vampires, that now I'm actually looking forward to the "cliched" vampire for a change.

I completely agree. If we're saying it's okay for Hircine to mix just about every kind of animal with man, then why is it such a stretch to say that these new strains of vampires transform? It's shown in the trailer that not all the vampires do transform, which means you either choose to transform, or you just feed to stop the transformation. Either way, no one is forcing anyone to play as these new vampires. I feel if you hate them so much, join the Dawnguard and hunt them down. Or just don't buy the DLC.

Everything I've seen in Dawnguard Trailer is lore friendly.

Vampire Lords = Ancient Vampires.

The Vampires in Dawnguard will most likely be Volihar (Spellcheck?)

Their Fortress is prolly the Icy Fortress buried in snow. (Went there in Arena; anyone else remember?)

And the Dawnguard are just Vampire Hunters, really. So they can easily be added. I see no Lore-Breakers in Dawnguard Add-on.

Bethseda is pretty much the god of TES so they can add in or take out any in-game lore they want really.
