You're in no way forced to wear a helmet. I play on master difficulty and never wear them yet I do just fine.

I agree, this has kinda bothered me since i started using a dual wielding argonian, all the perks on the right side of the HA tree require you to wear a helmet, a bit daft if you ask me......mind you, i use alchemy as well with this character, so eventually i can make my own smithing elixers to go above and beyond on my armor rating, but at the beginning, pain in the ass, and no point to use the right side of the HA tree AT alll. If they came out with an update to make the helmets more argonian and kajitt friendly, id wear them, but it makes no sense to put on a helmet, and BAM, my horns just disappear .....

With the armor perks including that you MUST wear a Helmet for the extra bonus (and to me it's worth it.. the Helm is the 2nd strongest piece of your armor). IDK just.. in a way it feels forced unto the player. Yes you look all BA and whatnot, but that's not my point. You get that nice lil hefty armor bonus as well.

I understand what you're saying, which is why I don't take those perks. I hate helmets. My battlemage is an Argonian, so that doesn't work out well because of warping. And my straight nord warrior is female and looks better with the tiera looking thing.

My suggestion would be to not put perk points into those that force you to wear a helmet to receive them. If you max everything available you can achieve over twice the armor cap which is a complete waste of perk points and gear.

FYI you can achieve the armor cap, with a helm of cource, with almost any type of heavy armor from Steel up. If your using Draeconic ( however it's spelled) you don't need a helmet. The cap is somewhere around 556. I'd look it up but I'm too lazy.

Questions like these require a little bit of research on the OP's side. There are multiple wiki's that had you read you'd know the answer to your question and therefore eleminate the need for this thread in the first place.

Really?

News to me. Half of my characters run around without helmets, and seem to do just fine. Hell, one of my characters is over the armor cap WITHOUT a helmet.
The armor cap for 4 items of armor is different than 3 items, so I doubt you have. You get a hidden bonus to armor if you have 4 pieces of armor on.

To the OP, you can hotkey your helmet and take it off when not in battle? Or you could wear a circlet, I don't wear armor anyway so I wear the archmage robes, then I enchanted a circlet, necklace, gloves, boots and a ring.

BS. Body, hands and feet of the basic steel armor (upgraded at 100 smith + steel smithing perk + pot + 100 heavy am skill + 4 perks in juggernaut) will get you to 580+ AC
No shield, no helmet.

What do you think about Helmets?
I think it's a choice the player can make and live with the consequences.

I choose to leave the helmet off, and I am glad there is a penalty. It gives meaning to the choice.

I agree, I don't want to spend all my perk points on smithing and enchanting to have a cool looking Leather armor without the helmet. I'm running around in a Leather armor full set, because of that annoying perk. I take my helmet off when I'm in the cities and that kind of makes it more RP-ish imo.

The only thing I'm forced to do is:

1. Pay taxes
2. Finish the "honey do" list every Saturday

Otherwise I'm not "forced" to do anything else in life.

Technicaly, you don't have to do those either, not counting the problems it will spawn. You just really only have to die.

On a more serious side, to the op, if you feel so pressured about something like that, all I can tell you is that you have no willpower whatsoever. I ran completely naked around, and got killed by giants and crap. Didn't really feel forced to weear armor just because of that. If you don't feel like wearing the helmet - don't wear the helmet.

I used a mod to make my helmet invisible. So now I get the bonuses while being able to see my hair. <3
Uh there is ..I'm using it now.. It sort of removes the helmet requirement from that perk..

I usally play in first person when the combat is rolling, so wearing a helmet doesnt worry me. However the rest of the time i prefer to see my characters face, so i hotkey my helmet for when i'm not in battle.

The complaint is that, in order to get the highest armor bonus, I must wear all the armor pieces the game has?

That . . .makes no sense to me.

If person A wears 3 pieces of armor, and person B wears 4 pieces, why should person A get the same bonus as person B?

Take it off if you don't like it . . . but your complaint makes no logical sense to me. It seems purely cosmetic. And while it's fine not to want to wear a helmet for cosmetic reasons, it makes little sense to say it should have no effect on your armor rating or bonus.

lol, and there was the one where if you pan the camera around in 3rd person you can see through the helmet & your character is bald.

IDK just.. in a way it feels forced unto the player. Yes you look all BA and whatnot, but that's not my point. You get that nice lil hefty armor bonus as well.

I just like my character's Hair/Face not being hidden all the time. Anyone agree?

What do you think about Helmets?

EDIT: Also referring to the Reflect Blows (Heavy Armor), and Deft Movement (Light Armor). "while wearing all Heavy/Light Armor: head, chest, hands, feet."

Basically you want the option to toggle.

Yeah Ive had that happen too. heh. There was even a specific combination of armour and the hood from the thieves' guild that made the headgear disappear and my character appear completely bald.

Although I agree fully on choice having consequences, they also have to make sense.
When not wearing a helmet causes a penalty in stamina, something is wrong somewhere.
Helmets should penalize stamina (but add armor) depending on how closed they are.
Masks could have better enchantability, but even higher stamina reduction and less armor value.
Those ringlets (?) somewhat less enchantability, but no armor bonus or stamina reduction.
The perks should then not kick in if you're wearing armor of different class or material.

So that's why this big biker guy threatens me with a gun, every time I take my characters helmet of. Pull you self together :stare:
No one make you wear a helmet, armor or clothes at all, so if you want to fight the world butt-naked with you sword you are allowed. So "forced to wear a helmet" my ass
