If they are decent people in the first place they will respect that and won't put any pressure on you.

If they're the type to make fun of you, I wouldn't call them good flat mates to begin with.

It's through the Uni. Me and my best friend couldn't find anywhere to stay, so I had to apply for Uni accommodation again...

They don't tell you who you're staying with :(

Well then, you are all "mature advlts" and should be able to co-operate even if they like to drink, smoke, and club.

Then keep with your resolution and don't go out. Caving in and doing things against your will will just shown them your are weak willed, and they'll begin to pride themselves on getting you to do things that make you uncomfortable. Stick to your guns. And who knows, you could be blowing this outta proportion.. you might get lucky and they'll have the same mindset as you. You aren't the only one who knows that College/Uni. is for learning and not partying.

They will forcibly drag you to a bar and make you drink. I am sorry for you. What a horrible fate... :cryvaultboy:

They might be rational people though I suppose. Maybe things won't be so bad. :disguise:

You bar the doors shut so they can't leave and display your dominance as the alpha of the flat.

Last time all the guys hid my kitchen stuff
I managed to team up with one of the other girls and we beat them back with threats from ex-boyfriends!
But it only lasted for so long before started making scenes again :(

The way they talked about their 'girls', doing all this mean stuff to them... and they would always run about the corridors at 3AM shouting, playing with BB guns. And they'd shoot at us!

It was terrible :shakehead:

I recommend wrestling them down to the ground and biting their ears.

I would hope so!

I don't have a problem with people that come to Uni 'for the experience' so to say. But they always questioned why I didn't go out every night on the town and throw myself on some random guy. And when I did go out to the clubs with them, they tried to get me to pay for everything!

That's probably part of the reason they were jerks to you, you don't come of as a very dominant or confident person.

Yeah, pretty sure that'd get you arrested here in the States. Buck up, stand up for what you believe in, and don't let anyone tell you how to behave.

Just show up and say "hey, what's up?". That's always a good way to start things off. If they want to go out and you don't just tell them you don't want to, not the club type. Easy as that.

That sounds like something you should have gotten the police involved with, tbh. Disturbing the peace is one thing, but shooting at someone with a BB gun is assault.

Thank you for the response :cake:
We reported it and residential services sent security men to watch the corridors. They said though "if we don't catch them in the act, we can't do anything" because that's apparently the policy...

Do clubbers appreciate drivers?

Maybe I can smooth things off by offering a ride? :(
Like take everyone to Tesco so we can all buy food and bathroom stuff (and the guys can buy drink).

And the day after I meet everyone, at 7am I've got to greet and welcome my two mentees!

Hopefully your flatmates this year will be better! Kind of an obvious statement I know, but until you meet them there is no telling who you will end up with and there is a possibility, albeit a slim one, of you getting flatmates who are also not interested in the stereotype of University living. Could you not have asked to live with second or third years specifically? They tend to be claimer overall I found.

I was fortunate enough to only have to spend one year in Student Accommodation, after which I moved in with some people who had a similar anti-clubbing mindset. Was pretty lucky really, especially as the house was a far walk away from the Uni/town centre so was pretty quiet during the evenings as well.

If you're asking "do shameless drunks like not having to worry about cab fare or walking home" then yes, god yes, offer to be the designated driver. You can drink juice or soda and enjoy some bar food and just hang out. That's assuming they're the drinking type. Who knows, maybe you'll luck out and find roommates who enjoy whatever anime is in your avatar and talking about the Elder Scrolls.

My own assumptions statistics show one in every ten people enjoy TES.
