It's high time to cut the opening

No need to have a blatant, in your face "Skip Tutorial" option. All they need to do is allow a third option.

Option 1 - go with Hadvar
Option 2 - go with Ralof
Option 3 - Hit the Sprint button and book it straight out of Helgen. Then, if you encounter people on the road they can say, "I heard you hung poor Hadvar out to dry. The Imperial Legion doesn't need cowards like you, but if you like stabbing people in the back, why don't you go ask Ulfric about joining the Stormcloaks." ---- Then speech options come up for Riverwood, the Imperials and the Stormcloaks, and your journal updates accordingly, and the game continues on, without you having to go through the whole tutorial dungeon if you don't want to.

OP, I humbly give to you...

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9557/.

Man I love that mod. Before that I just kept a generic DONOTOVERWRITE save game that I would park at the standing stones and just used showracemenu. Or tgm and run through the dungeon in about 5 mins .

Actually, would any side in the civil war really want to recruit a coward into their ranks? Also, I was under the impression that you book it into the keep because it was the only viable escape from the rampaging dragon.

I would advocate for the ability to tweak your character right before leaving Helgen keep, instead (similar to how Oblivion did it). That way, you'd only need to sit through the opening twice - once to go with Hadvar, once to go with Ralof.

Yes, true in the existing game as it is. Obviously, if any of our suggestions here were to be implemented by Bethesda, they would have to change the game around a bit. Of course, my option wouldn't work unless they gave the player a way out of Helgen that doesn't require going into the Keep...that goes without saying. You can go back into Helgen afterwards, after all the carnage...so why not let you leave Helgen at the beginning of the game the same way you can enter it later on in the game?

Makes no difference for console users like myself, Bethesda is not going to change the opening sequence. Only option is mods for PC users and since this doesn't really bother me all that much, I'm cool with playing through the tutorial each time.

Yeah, okay, I respect that. FFS, I think it would be very interesting if they were to include a "shortcut" similar to your suggestion in future TES games, with its own unique consequences.

Exactly , and it's just disrespect for the Lore and the game.

If there weren't penalties for swapping race and six in the showracemenu, I would use that any time I feel like a different character. It's just such a hassle starting a new game. Give us the option of editing race and six before exciting the dungeon, please.

Uh Oh. I do this all the time? What's the penalty for swapping six and race? Only think I noticed was once I switched from Nord to Breton, and I didn't get my free Conjure Familiar spell.

So, you intend to play Skyrim with your hands bound the entire time? I'm guessing those calling you a coward aren't going to want to remove those bindings.

Ya, hehe, mostly I was just being an [censored]. It would have to be fleshed out more than that. There could be a permanent dagger on a table or something when you exit that allows you to "cut your bindings off"

In Oblivion I could punch things, there are very few times where I have the lack of control as a character. My hands aren't bound, so punching Uriel Septim is fun. lol.

Not really. After creating 10-20 characters, it's pretty reasonable to not want to have to repeat the same exact thing over and over again.

I didn't see it that way. You looked like you were having fun, so I couldn't resist the flaw in it. :P

Next thing I saw was Alduin flying away, some guy in a red skirt rushing to a town I couldn't see, and standing alone looking like a bleached Fred Flintsone, half naked to boot.
This just made my day. Thank you.

I'd like to see an elder scrolls game with a similar opening as fallout 3. Starting out as a kid. And every race has its unique beginning.

10-20?? Character ADD much? Stick with a few characters and actually play the game longer than a few minutes before moving on to the next

To much work. Also people build their own backstories ya know. This would ruin half of the people's backstories.

When the company that produced the game is disrectful to it's playerbase why should I care if I don't like their scripted opening? I have a premade save at the moment when you step off that stupid cart. At least I can skip the first two minuets for my next character. Asuming I make one. With as buggy as this has been I may go back to DA:O and get some more mods to go with it and make the game even longer.

Lol. When you've seen the same thing over and over again, it gets pretty boring.

In Morrowind, the opening wasn't very long, so sitting through it for the umpteenth time wasn't that bad.

In Oblivion, you could save right before exiting the sewers, allowing you to make entirely new characters off of that.

In Skyrim, you're forced to go through the tutorial every single time. Not to mention that it has probably the longest tutorial of any TES game to date.

Its NOT longer than daggerfall's , god, don't even get me started, it took me HOURS to get out of that dungen, and even then I died like 30-40 times just trying to get through it.

god i miss those days.

DA:O did this. Rather enjoyed that aspect of the intro. It didn't get that repetive, at least until I ralized that I only liked playing the dwarf noble or the human noble intro.

I suppose I should say the Daggerfall's intro has the potential to be longer, especially if you don't know what you're doing.

Surprisingly, my first character went through it pretty quick (no, I didn't have any idea about what I was doing, yet - I just got lucky =P)

Honestly I have played and retired about 30 characters now and never really had a problem with it. I am part of the master race so for little things, like changing hair, tats, etc. I can use the console without any issues.

At least it's not as long as OB's starter dungeon, and it does give you a chance to find about every type of weapon, armor and even some mage stuff. It could be made a little shorter I suppose, but it's no big deal to me.

I would love for Bethesda to remove the obligatory tutorial opening of Skyrim. I have seen the execution and the dragon, and I am just so fed up with crawling through the dungeon trying to get into the sun so I can start the game already. What if you could make it like with Oblivion and Fallout 3 and NV? Give us a chance to make a new character before exciting the dungeon.
Surely the developers have the skills to do this, shouldn't even take too much time, and if money is an issue there's always an opportunity to sell it as a dlc! I wouldn't mind paying a dollar for this feature, whilst the vampire lord, I can do without.

Not satisfied with you game? There's mod for that.

That was something I hated about Fallout 3. I couldn't create my own backstory for my own character.
