Home-Builts and Pre-Builts

Post » Fri Jun 10, 2011 7:52 pm

I've built and did the troubleshooting for my own desktop's for over 10 years now.

While I dislike it and sometimes wish someone else would work on my PC or just go the more expensive and lazy route of buying a pre-made one, it isn't as smart to pay someone else to do something you can do yourself, and the pre-made one will [censored] up eventually, generally costing more money and lack of a computer for longer periods of time.

Another part of my dislike for building and maintaining computers is also that I spend so much time fixing other people's issues as well.

I let a store assemble it for me but I selected all the parts.

It might be interesting to suggest to such a person that they come and wash your dishes for free. "But that's different!", although some may get the point.

Basically my one and almost only "free support 24H" have moved, not only that but I had to advice him about a laptop, was a whole lot easier than the old way ;)
But yes, don′t tell anyone you can build a pc,other than in your paid work of course, after all you get paid there :D

Oh the vote thingy, yes I build my 6 systems my self, varies from intel 775 to 1156 and amd′s,powerbills have made me shut down distributed computing, after all I really only need 2 or 3

This community has taught me well that home built is the better route of the two. And through personal experience with both, I am never getting a pre-built PC ever again in my life.

Unless you know that there's money to be made.

And I assembled mine myself. I've used home-built computers since I started buying them (ie stopped getting things from parents as a kid), I got help with the first one but after that I've done it all myself. I'm not a great of pre-built ones at all, especially not after helping people with theirs.

Home built. No one touches my PC. :stare:

A rule I've lived by for a very long time.

Currently it's a pre-built(with new GPU & HDD), but the next PC I'll own will be home-built.

I have two pre-builts that I use for spare parts.

The first PC I have actually bought with my own money is the first one I built. Before I always just got my father's old PC and upgraded them.

I'm a tad surprised by the results here. I've always owned pre-built PCs because I'm lazy and want to play my games as quick as possible, without having to build a computer to do so.

That, and I would only have a vague idea of where to start :ahhh:
